It started on reddit. There used to be pretty frequent askreddit questions which were "what was your favorite subtle/under-the-radar/background joke/quote from the simpson's?" and the top answer was usually "Sneed's Feed and Seed, formerly Chuck's"
It started getting posted here because it always gets a rise out of people when you pretend to be a redditor, either they're in on the joke and play along or maybe they come up with some good roasts, and this particular joke is an excellent example of what makes reddit so annoying. Redditors believe they stand for subversion and thoughtful humor, but very rarely do any of them actually achieve those heights, and when one of them does, the others run it into the ground until it loses any semblance of it's original meaning.
This joke seems subversive because it implies profanity on network television, suggesting that the writers have "gotten one" past the censors, which represent a shadowy authority figure which is somewhat entangled with corporations, puritanical morality, and arbitrary school dress codes. Basically they picture a corporate CEO at FOX, who somewhat resembles their high school principal, seeing this on air and spewing steam out of his ears because it might offend Baby Jesus. The rest of us understand that words can't actually hurt you, but at the same time it's not somehow inherently more "creative" to say something vulgar, you don't lose anything by cutting "fuck" out of your vocabulary, so we really don't bother to complain that certain words aren't allowed on TV.
The thing about "creativity" brings me to my next point, some people think this is an especially clever joke because it requires that extra bit of thought to rearrange the letters to get the "secret meaning." But they don't realize that a bit of extra thought would reveal that this joke makes no sense: it would be called Chuck's Feed and Seed, because there's no such thing as a Fuck and Suck store. In fact the joke is so idiotic that many people ask to have it explained, thinking there must be some extra level beyond "fuck and suck." It's just sophomoric nonsense, which is briefly amusing, but only an idiot would lock that away in their "really great jokes from the Simpson's" memory. Like whenever there's a shooting and you see dozens of comments saying "why don't we just ban assault rifles already?" and you think to yourself "you mean like we did with drugs?"
That's why it originally got posted. It Post too long. Click here to view the full text.
