Is anyone else here bizarrely fascinated/enthralled by Chile and consequently, Allende? I don't know really even know what it is but from the moment I've learned about September 11th, 1973 I fall into these weird states of mind where I feel a deep, sinking sadness that isn't like anything I've ever felt before. I recently read Capitalist Realism and have been reading the reat of k-punks stuff and he describes the coup of 1973 as the slow emergence of "capitalist realism" which helps to articulate what I feel with respect to that mess but there's still something about it I can't really articulate.

Anyone else feel this way with other figures/historical events, or can help me understand why I feel like this?

I think the reason we feel like this is because of a nostalgia for a lost future that was ripped from us, a hope from the past that we can't let go living in current bleak times. I haven't read much of Mark Fisher but I know he talks about hauntology, perhaps it has something to do with that
