Wake up, get ready, go to work, come back, level up some skill for a bit, eat some shitty food and shower, go to sleep, repeat until you receive paycheck to spend on AESTHETICS, do it all over again.

Why did I find this fun when I was younger? What's the POINT? Earn virtual money to CONSUME virtual decorations? For what purpose? Nice """escapism""" Will Wright

So just because it's too easy you say it doesn't qualify as a game.

Has anyone ever made a life on hard mode mode for the sims? That'd be pretty cool. If the game was always tossing really hard problems at you and your sims family. Trying to juggle raising your kids with wage slaving and etc.

Sims hasn't been a chore simulator (aka difficult) since the first game. The rest really doesn't require you to spend that much on routine.

>begging the question

I dunno OP. You found it fun because your brain was less developed? Because there's plenty of people that find menial chores fun, Sims doesn't even begin to compare to a game like Animal Crossing New Horizons. 20 million sales or so.

TS1 is a better statement on consumerism than anything anyone on this site could cook up. Only when you find yourself, deliberately and "for fun", looking at a virtual representation of yourself enjoying itself playing a video game you yourself are not playing, will you truly understand. And then you yourself will stop playing and simply go consume something else, because no matter how many woke posts you make online, you are not free

a lot of the fun of the sims imho is escaping capitalism with insane hijinks. sims 3 is most conducive for this since you can revert to barter economy and do anything from gardening to freelance gem cutting to alchemy. sims 2 is still my overall favorite sims though, cause it has just such a tight few systems with a lot of interactivity, whereas the later sims are mostly just fun but disconnected systems you can play with. of course that is mostly the fault of the DLC policy of EA - hard to make a game of integrated systems when there is like a hundred pieces of DLC between store stuff and expansions. easy to pirate now-a-days though.
oh, and shoutout to doing home decoration, especially with console commands and mods to allow for more items on surfaces. I love just the serenity that comes from gradually expanding a room both in function and form.

There are loads of mods for like, more expensive bills, less wages, you having to manually go out and buy groceries, ect.

 No.17864

This post is missing the most horrific part of the sims: absolutely terrorising them.
Random sims from the neighborhood will just enter your home, eat your mac and cheese, and there's nothing you can do to make them leave.
On the flip side, you can force your sims through a massive labyrinth, goading them on with the promise of a toilet.

does this mean that the sims is capitalist propaganda or does this mean that it's a critique? The games give me the vibe that they want us to think that meritocracy is real and that wage slavery is acceptable.

 No.22431

neither really, cause especially with sims 2 onwards you can instead make a fucking garden commune and easily subsist off of it. in fact, in the sims 3 especially a lot of the "hobbies" you can do can end up being vastly more profitable than any job - a dipshit looking for rare rocks and metals in people's backyards will make more money than an army general with multiple raises who served all the way into retirement. likewise there is never any real "production" jobs when you think about it - your sims never get like, a job producing shit in any meaningful sense, so either they outsourced all of it to robots (which they very clearly have in abundance) or the games were never meant to make any kind of economical sense.

World of Warcraft was published decades ago. And refuses to fucking die. We already live in that dystopia.

 No.28237

Yes but at least WoW is a simulation of being a fantasy hero and slaying monsters, something you can't really do IRL, whereas the Sims is just a simulation of modern life itself (with some fantasy elements thrown in sure but mostly grounded).

 No.28241

>>28237
If you haven't played GMod then you wouldn't understand the appeal of The Sims either. The point is not to live a boring life but rather to kek from experimentation. Besides, the time here is sped up (as it should) and many things are quick and automated so you couldn't simulate life fully even if you wanted to. Because that's not the point.

WoW is way more boring than The Sims. It's full of grind and monotonous combat. And yet you claim The Sims to be more mundane, HA! If anything, WoW is the perfect job simulator.

Wasn't Sims 4 supposed to have online too until SimCity 5's always online bullshit was a disaster? Don't know why they want it to be a thing so bad. Obviously it's to monetize it but I don't see how they could monetize the sims anymore than they are now.

 No.28446

>>28445
Well arguably they want to stop pirates, therefore if you can do multiplayer with your friends only if you buy it it might convince more people to pay

 No.28462

>>28445
>Don't know why they want it to be a thing so bad
Because it's cool and ads unique gameplay opportunities? If anything, SimCity and The Sims are the games that will only be better with multiplayer in theory. EA's castrated studios just suck at making games now (Respawn's games are a rare exception).

Fun fact: Cities Skylines is apparently available on GNU/Linux. WTF?

 No.28465

>>28446
>Well arguably they want to stop pirates
It's actually way better than integrating DRM into the software IMHO. Because holy cow, Denuvo and proprietary spyware can kiss my ass.

The only issue is that you can't run your own servers. And that was really bad for WoW, Blizzard was just banning private servers left and right while their offering was bullshit.
