As I mentioned in my first post complaining about world of Warcraft I specified that wow was always and always was looked on as a casual MMO and after going back to old videos of wotlk and the burning crusade I feel like although my expectations weren’t extremely high compared to the rest of the wow fan base that left I understood why I left classic. But let’s talk about classic wow, in pieces to get this right beginning with

>post 1: the UI

As you can clearly see in the OP the UI is about as garbage as modern WOWs, I know plenty of MMOs have this like EVE or GW2 but my christ most of the shit on screen is batshit useless especially since the second half of WOTLK was filled to the brim with easy dungeons and raids that made half of the shit on screen pretty fucking useless to even point out.

You don’t need a nametag and constant reminders to know who arthas or the curator is their models take up most of the fucking screen anyway. You don’t need a massive fucking damage text system constantly telling you when you parried, crit and dodged an attack because the HP bars will tell you enough to know what the fuck is going on, you don’t need to be told what level your at and occurring quests your doing along with a massive fucking skill menu you have because you use them all the fucking time, you shouldn’t need a map that’s constantly on screen when your grinding in zones you’ve been in for hours. It’s actually even worse when all this clutter is on screen is it blocks my FOV and makes trying to understand wtf is going on in the game half the time a fucking pain in the ass. I’m gonna be biased and say out of any other mmo that RuneScape 2 AKA old school RuneScape had the best overall UI design due to its simplicity and level of control that prevented your screen from being infested with endless numbers on mechanics you already have used god knows how many fucking times.

>and on to part 2 in the next post difficulty

I’m gonna keep bringing this up because it’s important. World of Warcraft has always been a casual game, raids are not hard, dungeons are not hard, nearly all quest are not hard. Not in modern wow and not in classic beyond minor exceptions you see in endgame shit for the burning crusade and the first half of WOTLK.

For most of your time in game that’s spent fighting gearing and organizing your stats it’s kind of hilarious knowing how pointless it is to even bother coming up with builds in wow since everyone much like my problem in OSRS is just all gonna use the same fucking builds until they start a raid and suddenly there’s an entirely new meta for how people play(hint it really isn’t it’s just one or two damage guys and a shit load of healers in the background) and if you play PVP the situation with the sudden and random difficulty spike is even more noticeable. What this does is produce a problem that unsurprisingly blizzard never fixed in later expansions of WOW after the dumpster fire that was legion where suddenly the community is split between low to mid level scrubs breezing through the easy as shit content found in the base game and toxic manchildren that spend hours coming up with the most elaborate and broken builds to date, again RuneScape has this same problem with PVP and Raid content being the most bottom of the barrel unbalanced shit you’ll get out of the MMO but I forgive RuneScape because literally any mob in RuneScape regardless of how low level can either kill you or at least survive your attacks if you play like a fucking idiot . Some raids yes not all of them as mentioned prior in classic wow did have this where simply having good loot didn’t mean you’d be strong in the game if you had no other skills but realistically for the overwhelming majority of the content spamming and praying to the RNG gods is gonna breeze you past most of the “hardcore” content old fans with rose tinted nostalgia goggles overglorify, partly the reason why classic died so fast despite the hype

 No.17913

>>17912
Now onto the final
>part 3 the community

Yeah this part isn’t gonna be critique but a praise of classics community over wow. If you remember shit like pic related you’ll know that classics community was a lot stronger than modern WOWs. Nice? No obviously not it’s only moderately less toxic than RuneScapes but was it funny as shit watching players do the dumbest shit imaginable and ruin their lives over WOW? Yes, I loved grinding with old friends, being like fucking 13 when I first saw a neighbour of mine using a flying mount when I still lived in a basement and just goofing off for the fun of it with him, or talking about random shit in chat while players were being burned alive in the crusade. I miss that level of cohesion that wow had and it’s something that servers like 2b2t will be able to recreate

Nice way of saying you can’t read a paragraph with inserting your horseshit arguments

<even if I don’t have a legitimate argument beyond “le bad” I will still try my hardest to validate them

I don't care if your deal breaker is the "microtransaction p2w" shit when the whole game has always been "pay to play, but you can't keep it lol"?

>But seriously man. You can’t expect games to have as much content as wow, RuneScape, ESO, Warframe, destiny 2 in their current states to exist without consistent revenue their just too large

Oh no, activision's piggy bank is squealing!
I've played plenty of from software games, they're miles better than whatever antiquated mmo garbage wow has. I played wow only briefly when the panda expansion was released and realized I didn't want to be trapped playing a shitty game that demands I pay every month to play.
I have problems with the free to play model as well, but I'm more understanding when they want to add things like p2w shit or change things that don't agree with.

Lmao the games casual from literally the start and I’ll even list every feature as to why that videos wrong off the bat

The enemies are pathetically easy
- because most enemies cannot heal themselves, run away or use potions nearly all fights are quick, easy and ensure nearly all mobs at the right level are effectively cannon fodder for the player. And if they don’t do that they run off back to their spawn locations like the clueless AI they’re
- most bosses similarly are the same, they have limited attack options especially in raids, they cannot heal or auto retaliate when hit a number of times and they’re also huge as shit which makes them easy as shit targets for players not to mention the fact that sometimes the game straight up tells you what to do when a boss attacks you like the dragon killer in gruuls layer from the burning crusade

The grind is so easy you might aswell just buy the levels because it takes no time in the base game
- in RuneScape it typically takes a player 6000 hours on average to fully max out every passive stat alone
- in wow it’s less than 40 if your actually playing the game and not buying gold, perks, levels etc and even worse because tiered loot got obliterated what type of gear you have literally doesn’t matter as long as the item levels high enough and neither does your combat skills
- some sections of the games like in BFAs islands straight up give you loot guaranteed with 0 opportunities to lose at all while the dungeons and raids in that expansion are pathetically easy

Multiplayer is rarely needed
- because the enemies and the grind is so easy this also means you’ll rarely need to find someone to play with to survive Azeroth even during classic where it was supposedly “hard”
- don’t forget this qeueing for dungeons and raids didn’t always exist you used to have to find someone that you could work with and manually navigate the map to find a place to raid in like what OSRS does and has been doing for god knows how long.

And many more of this type of garbage. Games easy and it’s mechanics in its current state are made for 12 year olds or adults with the spending habits of one

>since everyone much like my problem in OSRS is just all gonna use the same fucking builds
It's hard to see how this would change without radically rethinking the design of the game, someone with a bigger brain than me could probably put what I'm about to say in terms of dialectical contradiction but I'm not that powerful yet. If you think of meta builds in terms of lowest effort for highest rewards it makes sense why people pick them, especially if they have to pay money to log in every day for the privilege of grinding dailies. Plus there's pressure in a group setting to use a build that's known to work, and the standardization gets magnified once you're pugging with people who have to rely on you not to fuck up without knowing anything about you beforehand. I don't think it's good game design to force people to group with randoms for dailies anyway, but that's a whole post in itself. It's best to group with friends who aren't into minmaxing and are ok with fucking around, so no one will care if you're running a shaman tank in classic or a templar tank in ESO.

There's a WoW private server called Project Ascension with a game mode that subverts meta building somewhat, in that you pick a new skill from three random draft cards every level. You can pick up more draws if you're really chasing a certain build (sorta pointless because they have a server where you can pick any skills you want), but it's much more fun to work with what you get. It's surprisingly active, there's a guy on youtube called McDoubles who makes videos multiple times a week about it just trying out new builds and seeing what works.

Look at the player count is enough info
People got bored of classic and left for a second time and won’t come back probably ever. Blizzards only chance of redeeming themselves is returning the base game to an acceptable level of difficulty, actually adding in enjoyable content and removing the micro transactional bullshit while committing themselves to those three things before the player base returns back to normal levels over the course of a few months to years.

Blizzard can’t expect to gain the same level of relevance with wow from a simple update there has to be a serious commitment to change

 No.18550

>>18544
Because blizzards current demographic for world of Warcraft players are players that don’t play world of Warcraft and want to progress everything easily. Guess what happens?

RNG is placed everywhere on buffs, item drops and mob spawns specifically to encourage spending money on boosters and straight up buying levels
Every normal quest is piss easy and requires zero thinking or even skill to play
And every actually fun component of the game like PVP, mythic raids and quests is all locked only to like the 0.1% of extreme whales of this game that take this shit to seriously and will buy anything that gives them a competitive advantage over other players which fuels the P2W bs in the game making there a massive pit both in money and in difficulty for players with no inbitween

If you wanna know what every problem in wow would look like if it was put into a single non world of Warcraft game look no further than diablo immoral(no I’m not spelling that correctly) that’s currently being assblasted by everyone
