Wrought Flesh, it's not exactly linear since there is an exploration aspect but it's not open world by any means.

Check out Red Faction Guerilla. Even though it is technically open world, there is literally nothing stopping you from just blazing through the game's missions while smashing shit up and the game world is pretty receptive for this approach.

I remember people telling me this was "like Metal Slug" and being instantly disappointed when I got it. Terrible "Euroshmup" imitation of a serious run 'n' gun shooter. Kicking myself to this day that I didn't know that it started as a flash game and trying it out on Newgrounds first. My recommendation for OP is Contra Rebirth, it's fantastic.

The Getaway. It's a large map but it really is only for…making getaways. You just go from mission to mission and there is no non mission content so I'd say it counts as linear.
