uhhh they like the game?
I want to see a WRPG earthbound-like
It was one of those cult classic games that had little recognition and a very devoted fanbase with a feeling of being cheated out of a sequel (or at least an official Mother 3 translation even after it was announced) which made people make their own spiritual sequels in an attempt to plug that hole in themselves. Then those people became gamedevs themselves.
River City Ransom didn't have the same impact but is comparable in its cult status making a strange number of fan content. Sonic was popular but its fanbase proactivity was probably more due to its present games being so different from the classics. Fallout: New Vegas might have a moment like that in the future.
It is incredible how the developer predicted Agent Kochinski.

Only 2 out of 7 examples, damn.
How TF is Celeste like earthbound mf did you even play the fucking game,
Did you even watch fucking gameplay of it????
YIIK is based on Earthbound?
Beyond being a quirky jrpg set in a modern setting, no. YiiK is mainly based on Murakami novels (to the point of straight up quoting one of his books in the game).
the japanese portrayal of american culture is camp-y and endearing
it had an actual memorable story which is extremely rare for a jrpg
it's generally auteur-ish and aesthetic for some game that came out on the SNES and gameboy in the 90s which were typically arcade-ish platforms
>To the Moon
earthbound-like is when retro jrpg
