Let's discuss the shitshow that is TLOU2. Is the leaker right? Is the story shit?

Personally I have always hated the first one and that the plot twists and turns that people hate so much in the sequel are a direct continuation of the extremely cringe and tryhard storytelling of the first one

If you hate the games why would you make a thread about them?

I actually really enjoyed the first game. I enjoyed many aspects of it, ranging from the story to the gameplay. Hell the online multiplayer is really good. So why do you think that the story tried really hard? That certainly wasn’t my experience with the game.

Why do you think the second game leaks are bad?
It sounds like they've gone in a very interesting direction.

It was extremely cliche to point where I could predict the twist and turns as it happens from the very beginning. The only one I couldn't predict was the ending and it triggered me to this day with how pointless the conflict was. The Bandit City as a concept was really retarded and its ending was fucking cringe.

The whole revenge arc is very lame especially when you play it from the new character's perspective. But it is par for the course for TLOU where bad things have to happen all the time.

>especially when you play it from the new character's perspective
But surely this is good? It's very cliche to play as someone seeking revenge so the game changing it so you now play as the 'villain' and seeing it from their perspective is fairly fresh.
And given the history of the new character it actually does a complete parallel, not only giving it thematic depth but may also deliver the potential for players to really consider how they feel about what has happened across both games.

>But surely this is good?
No because (at least from what we know so far) it is a complete blindslide, a twist for its own sake. The general plot is fine but forcing a swap to a character's whose interests and goals is complete antithetical to the previous character is tryhard to the max. TLOU commits the biggest sin of trying to impress, not convince people with plot twists and turns like this.

What would be better would be to not mention Elle and Joel at all, say it is a new character in a sidequel, and then reveal that the character wanting to kill the two of them mid-way of the game.

Is the gameplay any good? Or do we just want our games to be shitty fucking movies now?

But this would completely omit the thematic parallel between Ellie and the new character looking for revenge.
It sounds like you want the game to be more generic than try something not many other games do.

>thematic parallel between Ellie and the new character looking for revenge.
So what? You can make different parallels, hell you can even make one with the side character traveling around the country piecing together what happened and tracking Elle down parallel their journey to the hospital.

>be more generic than try something not many other games do.

If it means making a more emotional cohesive and impactful story, sure. ND can't make these twists work because they want to make stupid shit like "thematic parallel between Ellie and the new character looking for revenge" rather than tell an emotional story first and then add themes to the general plot arc later.

You have no idea if it will be emotional or not - emotion comes from the detail and presentation, not a 5 sentence outline of the plot.

There wont be enough detail and presentation in the second half.

> 5 sentence outline of the plot.

I watched the scene where Joel got killed. It was cringe
