While I enjoy it, it definitely doesn't feel like 8 years of work, it feels like the Fallout 4 of Mount and Blade: Streamlined for accessibility at the cost of mechanics. Biggest factor for this is the loading screens, sure the fully rendered cutscenes are nice but holy shit the loading. So. Much. Loading. Functionality has suffered for being aesthetically pleasing which is the exact opposite of what old M&B was like.

Oh and the game seems intentionally grindier so that it takes you longer to get to the late game and realize that there now isn't a late game anymore, politics has been simplified, you can no longer invest in enterprises, saving up for better equipment is pointless since there is no better equipment, that scale armour IS the best in the game. The new smithing while cool is now an RNG lootbox system about grinding for the chance to unlock new parts and you lose profits on it always. Trading is now profitable though, so that's a plus.

It just feels like such a watered-down experience, like it's what Warband would look like if it was made by EA in 2020.

I would say one positive thing is that the sieges are much better now. But the combat seems a little bit unbalanced with you stomping everyone by just riding a horse and kiting everything to death while on the infantry you can just cheese the brain dead ai by circle straffing.

Siege battles look amazing. Problem is that whenever you're sieging you probabl won't ever be able to get all the cool shit, the castle/town will always construct ranged defenses before you do and therefore just blow your shit up as soon as you build it, which is on top of the 3-5 days of setting up camp and that's if some other army doesn't come and stomp your ass. And as it is sieges are slideshows, best I can tell the stutter and low FPS comes from the AI issuing literally thousands of commands per second in order to get around the poor pathfinding so that's why everyone's CPU is melting while your GPU goes mostly unused. I mean if they can find a way to make it work it would be great. The combat is another thing that on its own is great, the revamped blocking is especially very smooth and good for 1-on-1 fights, but anything beyond that is utter shit, especially with stutter. Holy shit trying to block or time a lance hit with stutter makes me want to tear my hair out. I still don't understand where those 8 years of dev time went cause the combat and sieges look the same from the 2016 gameplay footage.

Fuck i really like the game, its very rare that i actually like a videogame
From what i have seen Bannerlord improves pretty much the warband formula
I think its by far my favorite game of the last 8 years
Also lets talk about the factions and why if you didnt pick the arabs and the mongols(the sultanate and the khanate i mean) both in warband and in bannerlord you are a looser nerd

I have quite a few hours in Warband, nilla and modded, and I will be sitting out Bannerlord for the foreseeable future. There are so many good games to play; I'm happy to wait until full release, by which time there should also be some great mods. Funny that even last year I was dying to play it and now that it's come around I feel like I could wait indefinitely.

I feel the empire isn't unique enough but i like ideologically the senate faction (the northern empire)
Horse archer's are broken in big numbers but easily defeated when their are alone

So, I started my own kingdom, taking up a comfy corner of the Western Empire, but the nobles keep slipping out of my dungeon like it was made of paper.
I was thinking about trying to play it cool and soft and keep some kind of diplomacy open between my Commonwealth Republic and other kingdoms, but I guess
THIS IS A REVOLUTION NOW
KILL ALL NOBLES OR SELL THEM TO SLAVERY
It can't be helped. They just keep popping up with ever larger annoying bands of peasants if they escape or I let them go, which is a slow grind and attrition I can't afford.
