I'm happy that Phantasia led to some great games in the Tales series later on, but the game itself is an incredibly shallow, tedious grind because they hadn't yet figured out how to make battles skill-based yet.

The game is more interesting than the game tbh
but the music and voice acting is based

Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of the greatest games ever made imo.

What are some of your other favourite Fire Emblem games, anon? Just recently got into the series through Genealogy of the Holy War

Owning a physical copy of Star Ocean is quite chad.

Fuck, yeah that is a really good one too. I used to love that game. I still play it on my emulator every now and then

They're all decent except maybe FE 1, 2, and 3 due to having rudimentary mechanics. If you want to play on emulator I recommend using cheats to speed up building up support points. Otherwise you'll be waiting for hundreds of turns to get your preferred romantic pairings.

Here's another good one.

Chrono Trigger and Earthbound were each hugely ahead of their time in their own way. JRPGs today can't match the amount of fun, depth and content Chrono brings in such a short amount of time (by the genre's standards), and games that break so radically, confidently and successfully with the genre's tropes like Earthbound are still hard as shit to come by today. As someone that wants to like turn-based RPGs more than I do, every one I've ever liked is to some degree influenced by Chrono or Earthbound.
Anything completely devoid of the things I love about these games has sort of coalesced into a tropey blur with too much padding and exposition.

Earthbound was a step back from Mother in removing the outside-battle sprint system and living in ancient times with its awful item system. Even Dragon Quest 3 figured out in 1988 how to alleviate frustrating item juggling problems with its party Bag solution.

>outside-battle sprint system
Tbf, that wasn’t added until the re-release.
