But the terms imply the full retreat of Israeli troops out of Lebanon as much as they do the retreat of Hezbollah behind the Litani river. And the western coverage also implies that the Lebanese government is entirely on their side and will join them against Hez.

This is pretty much the terms of 2006. Since the launch of Al-Aqsa Flood operations on October 8, 2023, the Islamic Resistance has conducted more than 4,637 (announced) military operations over 417 days, averaging 11 operations daily.
Among these, 1,666 diverse military operations have been carried out since the "israeli" aggression on Lebanon and the start of the Mighty Ones operations on September 17, 2024, averaging 23 operations daily. The Resistance prepared over 300 defensive lines south of the Litani River, each at the highest level of readiness in terms of manpower, equipment, and capabilities. The battles in Al-Bayyada and Khiam are clear evidence of this preparedness.
4. The Operations Room of the Islamic Resistance reaffirms that its fighters, across all military specialties, remain fully prepared to confront "israeli" ambitions and aggression. Their eyes will remain fixed on the movements and withdrawals of enemy forces beyond the borders, and their hands will remain on the trigger, defending Lebanon’s sovereignty and upholding the dignity and pride of its people.

Reserve officers frustrated: We did not fight to blow up a tunnel that will be rebuilt
Sergeant Omer Ben Hamo, a first class officer in the Israeli occupation army, expressed his shock at the settlement agreement in the north on the border with Lebanon.
Omer, who serves in the Yiftach Brigade, said that this agreement “puts our lives at risk for the sake of temporary calm, and keeping the situation this way is negligence.”
The Israeli soldier addressed Netanyahu, saying: “You know that you did not finish the mission, and that the enemy is improving. We sacrificed a lot and did a lot, but I do not understand this (agreement). I do not understand why we fought, in order to blow up a tunnel that they are building again.” He continued: “You sent me to fight against an enemy or against infrastructure. I know that my son will serve in the reserves there because we refuse to solve the problem.”
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper indicated that this frustration was expressed by many reserve soldiers.
In this context, Reserve Captain Omer Feldman, an artillery officer in an armored battalion, who served in the reserves for more than 200 days, half of them in the north, said, “This must be said: absolute victory does not exist on any front. Hezbollah’s senior leadership… will be rebuilt, and Lebanese citizens have returned to their homes, while our citizens are still living in hotels. This is a testimony to helplessness, and this is a political game at our expense."

Lebanon: Al-Mayadeen camera monitors the situation of the frontline towns in the south, which are resistant to occupation
Al-Mayadeen's correspondent reported that from Khiyam to Kfar Kila and Deir Mimas, passing through Markaba, Adaisseh and other border towns, the Lebanese army placed barriers at the entrances to the towns, to prevent citizens from clashing with the occupation soldiers, stressing that there is no Israeli presence on the ground at all, but the road is closed by the Lebanese army to prevent targeting civilians on it.
In the town of Khiyam, which the occupation failed to control, Al-Mayadeen’s correspondent from inside the town said that the extent of the destruction was observed on the western outskirts of the border town, while the town witnessed the return of residents to it despite the threats, and the presence of a “Merkava” tank belonging to the occupation on the western outskirts.

He explained that some of the occupation tanks retreated to areas hidden from Lebanese territory, pointing to the fear that grips the occupation forces inside the border towns that the displaced enter despite the closure of their entrances.
He also explained that the ceasefire exposed the lies of the occupation "army" regarding the points of deployment of its forces in Lebanese territory, noting that the points where the occupation is currently located are the same ones it reached during the past two months, contrary to the talk that was being promoted.
In addition, the reporter said that the Civil Defense teams are working to remove the rubble and open the road at the entrance to the tents in the chalet area.
He also pointed out that the bodies of a number of Hezbollah and Amal Movement martyrs were recovered from the Jalahiya area in the town of Khiam, which witnessed fierce battles in the last days of the war, amid the continued presence of a Merkava tank and a force of occupation soldiers in the area, where the soldiers shoot at anyone who approaches them.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent also monitored the situation on the outskirts of the border town of Taybeh, and in the Rab Thalathin-Adaisseh triangle, which witnessed fierce battles between the resistance and the occupation forces.
Al Mayadeen's camera also broadcast scenes of the situation in the town of Bint Jbeil, south of Lebanon, in light of the continued return of displaced people and the return of almost normal movement to it.
The mayor of Bint Jbeil, Afif Bazzi, told Al-Mayadeen that this return would not have been possible without the sacrifices of the resistance fighters, noting that work has begun to secure the return of the displaced.

Syria: The army confronts the terrorist attack in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib.. What are the latest developments?
The clashes that the Syrian army is waging against the terrorist militants continue in the western countryside of Aleppo and in the southern and southeastern countryside of Idlib, specifically in the vicinity of the city of Saraqib, according to what Al-Mayadeen’s correspondent reported.
Our correspondent confirmed that the Syrian army had transferred large reinforcements to its advanced units on these two axes, while its air force focused during the daylight hours on targeting the militants’ supplies in the southern and southeastern Idlib countryside, specifically in the Jabal al-Zawiya areas, because they constitute the main supply reservoir for the so-called “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” and “Jabhat al-Nusra” and other armed groups.
Meanwhile, the Syrian army temporarily cut off the international road, to ensure the safety of passersby coming from the central and southern provinces, heading towards Aleppo.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Syrian army had confronted the terrorist attack, which is still ongoing, inflicting heavy losses in equipment and lives on the attacking terrorist organizations.
The ministry added that the army is confronting terrorist organizations with various means of fire and in cooperation with friendly forces, after the militants launched a large and extensive attack in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, with large numbers of terrorists, using medium and heavy weapons, and targeting safe villages and towns and military points in those areas.
Earlier, our correspondent reported that more than 150 members of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and its allies were killed on the second day of the battles, stressing that field hospitals in northern Idlib are crowded with dozens of wounded, some of whom are in critical condition.
In addition, the towns of Nubl and Zahraa in the northern countryside of Aleppo were subjected to violent shelling with more than 40 missiles, launched by "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" in the western countryside of Aleppo, which led to the injury of a number of residents and the destruction of homes.

Israeli security cabinet extends Palestinian Authority bank ties under pressure
The security cabinet in Israel has voted to extend for another year a waiver that allows Israeli banks to engage in correspondent banking ties with Palestinian counterparts amid pressure from the US and E3, according to Israeli media.

Bin Laden wanted al-Qaeda to be a big tent org. He was sympathetic to Iran and Hezbollah and had connections with Imad Mughniyah and the Saudi Hezbollah before 9/11. AQ's use of huge suicide truck bombs was inspired by Lebanese groups lead by Mughniyah, the two reportedly met in Sudan once. The Khobar Towers attack was carried out in coordination with a Shia group but with Bin Laden's funding and expertise. The Sunni-Shia was caused by al-Zarqawi's attacks on Shia in Iraq. al-Zarqawi's proto-ISIS was basically an Al-Qaeda groupie that Bin Laden made a fateful alliance with. He wasn't happy with Zarqawi attacking the Shia, Bin Laden's mother is a Syrian Alawite so he was pretty pissed and sent Zarqawi and angry letter. The damage was done and when al-Zawahiri assumes control of the organization he embraces the anti-Shia sectarian angle, although not to the same extent as ISIS. Iran's support for Assad was a big factor in that break too. This might be changing because recently Sayf al-Adel put out a bunch of statements praising Hezbollah.

There are some understandable reasons to support Assad. If you're a minority who fears extermination at the hands of Sunni jihadists, that's one, or if you're a more secular-minded Sunni who feared something similar once the rebel cause was taken over by Al-Qaeda and ISIS. But "fearing the alternative" is not a substitute for a common identity, and it's very difficult for countries to know stability, build up their comprehensive strength, or stand up to Israel when the populations are so divided. And I suspect the reality of living under the Assad is that you don't get involved in politics. Assad's style of government is elite-driven and very top down. The stability provided by it is better than living under jihadis in Idlib. Rojava on the other hand is a democratic society which makes it relatively better, and if you want to get involved to change things you can, although life is still tough because the Syrian pound is worthless.

They are still present in Afghanistan and have been building stuff there but the Taliban have flat out said they won't let AQ attack from their territory. The Taliban brokered a peace deal with the US and part of that was an agreement to keep AQ out of Afghanistan. Now, the Americans think that means cooperating to police AQ and remove them from the country, but the Taliban's interpretation of the treaty is that it means don't let AQ use Afghanistan for armed attacks on foreign countries. As far as I know, AQ proper doesn't have formal relations with Hamas. Al-Adel recently put out an article where called them "lions" and claimed it was a duty upon all Muslims to give military aid to Gaza. Obviously, it would be unwise for Hamas to have any relationship with AQ. After 9/11, pretty much every Palestinian group went to great lengths to distance themselves from AQ because they didn't want to be targets of Bush's GWoT. None of the Palestinian groups are on board with OBL's war against the US because they know America has leverage over Israel and it doesn't help their cause to attack Americans, although the PFLP is certainly anti-American and supports attacks on the US. Right. It was the 1982 Beirut barracks bombing that influenced Bin Laden, and also Hamas and Islamic Jihad too. They all had this idea that by using large scale suicide attacks and other means of inflicting pain, you could kind of force your enemy to withdraw without having a large army. Its especially appealing to groups made up of small numbers of people with few weapons, like Hamas in the 90s. AQ's first attacks were to swing public opinion in the US but you see more and more escalation because the US doesn't react to Khobar or the USS Cole they way they did to the Beirut attack, so Bin Laden changes strategy and his idea is bring the US into a ground war and inflict more damage by attacking the US homeland directly and give them a second Vietnam. Only a handful of Bin Laden's inner circle knew about the 9/11 plan and the current defacto leader, al-Adel, actually opposed it. There have been signs of some ideological changes within the AQ movement.

I think part of the reason Sinwar went ahead with Oct 7th is that he saw what happened in Afghanistan in 2021 and he's convinced if you inflict enough pain they'll have to quit under public pressure. After the fall of Kabul, a lot of Palestinians in the Hamas circle were saying things like look the Taliban and AQ held out and waged armed resistance for years and it worked and they didn't negotiate an inch and got everything they wanted so that's what we should do and a lot of ordinary Palestinians agree.

While Hamas has moved to accommodate a two state solution on 1967 lines the PFLP wants to destroy the state of Israel and replace it with a single binational secular socialist state, they've stuck to the PLO's original position. The PFLP still sees itself as part of a global revolutionary struggle against US imperialism and support others who engage in armed struggle against the US. The caveat is that they won't do it themselves. Leila Khaled might reject attacks on civilians, but the PFLP's armed wing does carry out attacks on civilians. In 2014, they claimed the Jerusalem synagogue axe attack. Hamas insist it doesn't attack civilians and that's because they see don't see settlers as civilians. The PFLP is closer to the IDF in that they acknowledge civilians but also kill them. I think a lot of what the PFLP does is pretty ad hoc and disorganized and their reliance on recruiting street punks and criminals into their armed wing is part of why they lost a lot of support among ordinary people in Gaza.

Its hard to say if AQ actually has a single coherent ideology. They have ideas that motivate them and rationalize their cause, but individual members of AQ and people in their orbit seem to have essentially contradictory political views. Bin Laden founded AQ as a jihad organization, a group dedicated purely to armed struggle that leaves the more detailed political questions to someone else. So some AQ guys talk about building a caliphate and others want some type of Salafi emirate and others don't care about establishing a government at all. You are right that they are anti-nationalist generally speaking, but I don't think they'd oppose a Palestinian state if one actually existed. Israeli army orders Lebanese to stay away from villages not previously invaded
Al Jazeera’s verification agency Sanad has revealed that some 20 villages in southern Lebanon, not previously invaded by Israeli ground troops, are among a list of locations Israel’s military has warned residents not to return to after the ceasefire came into effect.
An Israeli army spokesperson warned residents against entering 62 villages in southern Lebanon, covering an area of about 500 square kilometres (193sq miles). According to Sanad, only 42 of those villages had been previously invaded by Israeli ground troops, or at least witnessed clashes.

Lebanese armed forces only playing ‘symbolic, political role’
Rami Khouri, a Middle East analyst and fellow at the American University of Beirut, says the Lebanese army is working under the ceasefire agreement “as an important political element for the Lebanese” people.
“The Lebanese army has never been able to play a decisive role because they’ve been deliberately kept well below the power of the Israeli army as a decision of the major Western military powers,” such as the US, France, Britain and others, Khouri told Al Jazeera.
It, however, plays a significant “symbolic, political role and … [a] practical role”.
“When Lebanese civilians see the army walking around … it makes them feel a little bit safe, it makes them feel like there is some sort of sovereign Lebanese authority,” Khouri said.
But people know this authority cannot confront Israel, he added, which is why Hezbollah “had to be born”.

UNRWA says families leaving its shelters in Lebanon after ceasefire
The UN refugee agency for Palestinians (UNRWA) says families are leaving its emergency shelters as the ceasefire in Lebanon takes hold.
“The humanitarian needs among the community remain very high and the Agency is committed to keep providing essential services” to Palestinian refugees in areas where it is operating, UNRWA said in a post on X.

Netanyahu says ready for Gaza ceasefire, but not an end to the war: Report
The Israeli prime minister made a distinction between a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a permanent end to the war during the interview with Channel14, his first since the Lebanon ceasefire agreement.
Netanyahu said that Israel intends to continue its war with Hamas and added that he is optimistic about efforts to release the captives held by Hamas.
“The answer is clear: I am ready for a ceasefire in the south, one that we think can achieve the release of the abductees.”

Tyre’s returning residents find no water and little power
Families from southern Lebanon’s coastal city of Tyre have been returning to their homes following the newly announced ceasefire, but Israeli strikes have turned parts of the city into an uninhabitable disaster zone without water or electricity.
“I wasn’t expecting such damage. We saw the pictures, but the reality is harder,” said resident Dunia Najdeh, 33, upon returning to her home.
As she struggled to protect her children from the shards of glass interspersed between their books and toys, her father-in-law Sleiman Najdeh looked on with despair at the devastation wrought upon the ancient city.
“There’s no more water or electricity, even the private generators don’t work any more, their cables are severed,” said the 60-year-old.
“Tyre and Lebanon don’t deserve what happened… but God will compensate us, and Tyre will be even better than it was before,” he said.

Lebanese military accused Israel of violating ceasefire agreement
During the first two days of the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, there have been a number of incidents that are a stress test, no doubt, to its long-term durability.
As people started returning to the south of the country, there were a number of incidents where Israel opened fire on groups of people, killing and injuring Lebanese in the south of the country as they went back to some of those areas.
Lebanese people say that it is their country, and they can go where they want.
Israel said that they are maintaining the terms of the ceasefire, and those people were in areas where they should not have been and too close to where Israel still maintains positions inside Lebanese territory.
Also, there was an air strike on Thursday carried out by the Israeli air force on what it described as a facility used by Hezbollah to store mid-range rockets in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese army issued a statement saying that on the 27th and 28th of November – the first two days of the ceasefire – “the Israeli enemy violated the agreement several times”.

Israeli military carries out more attacks in north, central Gaza
In north Gaza, Israeli fighter jets have bombed the Nassar family home in the centre of Gaza City, killing at least three people, the Quds News Network and our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues report.
In central Gaza, an Israeli military helicopter has carried out an attack on a beach resort area west of Deir el-Balah, wounding at least eight people, the Palestinian Information Center and Al Jazeera Arabic report.

On the second day of the ceasefire, two people were injured in Markaba in south Lebanon after the IOF targeted a square in the area.
In addition, a Merkava tank fired a shell at the town of Al-Wazzani.
A civilian was injured in an artillery shelling that targeted Taybeh square, following a drone strike targeting its vicinity. The Lebanese Army has asked the residents of Al-Taybeh to evacuate after the "israeli" enemy targeted their gatherings in the square and around the well with missiles from a drone in three waves, resulting in the injury of three citizens, according to Al-Akhbar.
Two IOF airstrikes targeted open fields in the outskirts of Al-Bisariyyeh, with no casualties reported, according to Al-Akhbar.

Lebanese Army: In parallel with reinforcing its presence in the sector south of the Litani River after the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, military units have started carrying out their missions. As the Syrian Arab Army prepares its counteroffensive following the attack by HTS on Aleppo, the recent hours have witnessed heavy bombing.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense added that its armed forces in northern Hama strengthened their defensive lines, preventing any breaches with firepower. Dozens were killed and others fled northwest of Hama. SAA reinforcements then arrived, while a mass retreat was witnessed by HTS.
Syrian-Russian bombardment intensified on the positions, movements, and headquarters of HTS in Idlib and Aleppo, leaving dozens dead and wounded.

Israel carrying out ethnic cleansing in Gaza, ex-army chief says
Former Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Ya'alon has stood by his comments that Israeli forces were committing war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.
Ya'alon faced criticism in Israel on Saturday after he said Israeli troops were carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing in northern Gaza.
“There is no Beit Lahia, there is no Beit Hanoun. They are operating in Jabalia and are essentially clearing the area of Arabs,” Ya'alon said in an interview with Democrat TV, describing the actions of Israeli forces.
“The path we are being dragged down is occupation, annexation and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip - population transfer, call it what you want, and Jewish settlements,” Ya’alon added.
Ya'alon was criticised by both current and former Israeli ministers.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar called Ya'alon’s accusations "reckless and irresponsible", urging the former army chief to "pull himself together".

For sixty days, the "Israeli" occupation army has launched a relentless and compound assault by land, air, and sea on North Gaza. This aggression targets areas such as Jabalia Camp, Jabalia Town, Jabalia Nazla, Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, and the Beit Lahia Project and surrounding regions. The attack has left over 3,700 martyrs and missing persons, 2,400 of whom have been buried. Additionally, 10,000 individuals have been injured, and 1,750 have been detained. The occupation has also deliberately obstructed civil defense teams in the governorate while destroying vital sectors, especially the health sector, hospitals, water networks, sewage systems, infrastructure, roads, and streets. This has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in North Gaza, now declared a disaster zone in every sense of the term.
The Government Media Office has obtained numerous firsthand testimonies from eyewitnesses, corroborating that 500 to 650 bodies of martyrs have remained in the streets for two months due to the occupation's prevention of medical, emergency, and civil defense teams from reaching them. This has led to stray dogs scavenging on the corpses, leaving only scattered bones. These bodies remain unidentified at the time of issuing this statement.
The "israeli" occupation continues its planned, brutal aggression against civilians, safe residential neighborhoods, and displacement and shelter centers. This includes acts of revenge, forcibly displacing tens of thousands of civilians from their homes, and committing crimes against humanity as defined by international law.

On Saturday, a Hamas delegation headed to Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials regarding a Gaza ceasefire. Here, Hamas leaders met with Fatah leaders in yet another instance of reconciliation talks between the two factions. A senior Hamas leader revealed yesterday that significant progress was achieved, with major hurdles being overcome regarding a committee to oversee control of the Gaza Strip.
This came a month after a meeting between the two sides where the details were ironed out. Meanwhile, Hamas is discussing the Egyptian initiative to continue the ceasefire negotiations, which includes a deal in which the Palestinian Authority will reportedly oversee the Rafah crossing.
In the most recent Hamas-Fatah meeting, a Community Support Committee was agreed upon. This committee manages the affairs of the Gaza Strip, according to the document, and its reference is the Palestinian government in Ramallah. It ensures that Gaza is not split from the West Bank and Al-Quds. The committee will be formed by 10-15 "independent and competent individuals" to manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip and its supervisory bodies will be within the Palestinian Authority. It seeks to ensure the governance system integrates Gaza and Al-Quds without fragmentation, in order to serve Palestinian interests. Its tasks are to provide essential services and humanitarian needs to Gaza residents, in coordination with the government in Ramallah and with local and international organizations. It will begin its work after a meeting including all Palestinian factions and a subsequent presidential decree.
The revealed agreement was contradicted by Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rajoub's comments today: "We refuse to discuss the formation of a committee to administer Fatah," stating that he hopes Hamas will surrender to the Palestinian Authority. On the other hand, all other factions except Fatah previously agreed to the formation of a unity government.
On the ceasefire front, the talks are reportedly progressing smoothly, but there are points on contention regarding the prisoner exchange. The zionist side insists on immediately receiving captives in the first phase. Egyptian officials speaking to Al-Akhbar expect a "breakthrough" in the coming days, while Egypt hopes to resume work at the Rafah crossing in cooperation with the US.

In total, 24,000 dunams have been declared so-called "state land," marking one of the largest land grabs in decades. Among the seized areas, 20,000 dunams are situated in the Jordan Valley, with an additional 2,600 dunams in the southern West Bank.
Since the Oslo Accords up until the end of last year, approximately 50,000 dunams have been declared "state land," with this latest declaration further solidifying the occupation’s intent to completely annex the West Bank and Al-Quds at an increasingly rapid pace.
