When did Bill Maher become insufferable to you?
For me it was when he blamed fat people for the pandemic lockdowns from SARS-COV-2.

Now he is simping for Trump who by the way sued him for defamation because he demanded a birth certificate to prove he was not part orangutan.

>when did liberal late night talk show host become insufferable
?????

>>2224976
Like maybe 16 years ago. Jesus Christ I'm old.

Always thought he was a chump tbh.

Pretty much the first time I listened to him, I've listened to a lot of his shit because he can have some valuable ideas. Overall though, hes an arrogant know it all anti-natalist atheist who seems vey unhappy. His pompous know it all attitude is hilarious when you objectively look at his life as a childless, spiritually devoid, single sad sack of shit who complains all the time. Hes gonna stink up the living room for a while before anyone notices hes gone, sad really.

About the time I moved left of neoliberalism.

never liked him. but when i started to read headlines about how he was getting rosy on trump i knew he was the enemy

>>2224976
>When did Bill Maher become insufferable to you?
The first time I saw him?

>>2224976
he was always an embarrassing retard

I don't remember ever liking any of those libshits in my entire life

He has always been insufferable to me, but he reached a new level recently when he said Israel belongs to the Jews cuz their magical book sez so. Wasn't even taking the piss with that. This is the face of burger atheism.

how about stephen colbert hes pretty chizo these days

>>2225558
liberals actually listen to this cringe we are doomed

Colbert and Stewart are/were tolerable enough for me but I never liked Maher. Truly insufferable personality.

>When did Bill Maher become insufferable to you?
When he became a fucking Neocon.

>>2224976
he was always insufferable but became 10x worse after Biden was elected in Nov. 2020

>>2225697
>Fuck /pol/yp newfags
Are you implying it was ever considered normal here to like Maher?

Bill Maher is the Democrats' Bill O'Reilly

I never understood this genre of American media. The only host I ever found funny was Conan O'Brien.

>>2225732
As an Aussie I think it's because claps treat politics as a sport where you always support your team and will laugh at even the weakest jokes at the enemies expense.

>>2225732
>I never understood this genre of American media. The only host I ever found funny was Conan O'Brien.
I always liked Andy Richter more.

File: 1744763810946.jpg (46.68 KB, 603x755, 678ff78f78f78.JPG)

I honestly think that Steve Bannon or Trump personally threatened Bill's life.

>communists when a liberal doesn’t hate Blump for one second

>>2225761
More like
>communists when a liberal

>>2225761
What the fuck was ever good about Maher? He's always been like the prototypical liberal I hate for me. The worst kind of smug, incurious, know-it-all liberal freak.

>>2225767
There are leftie kiddies here who are making a big deal that Maher is warming up to Trump when they should’ve already despised him in the first place since he’s an establishment neoliberal

File: 1744764384090.png (1009.24 KB, 1140x798, ClipboardImage.png)

>>2225770
Like Colbert and Stewart, I feel like you can see some sincerity behind them if misguided, but Maher just always seemed to me like pure unadulterated smugness.

>>2225770
Better late than never, at least they aren't following him to the GOP.

>>2224976
Even during the Bush years he was still gay and annoying, the bar was so much lower then and he still sucked to watch

>>2225840
Bush was so easy to mock 15yo's on 4chan were coming out with comedy gold.

>When did Bill Maher become insufferable to you?

When he started shitting on Muslims. That's basically the biggest red flag when it comes to 'progressive' types. If you are a leftist and someone feels comfortable being islamophobic in front of you should take the hint and the warning signs extremely seriously because you are talking to a crypto-fascist.

File: 1744766971416.jpg (4.36 KB, 317x240, 18660162858.jpg)

>>2224976
He isn't "simping for" Trump.
I've always found Maher himself to be pretty insufferable. He seems to be mad when someone other than him cracks a joke, and he wants his audience to react to his every joke exactly as he had hoped or else he chides them with a look or comment.
The value of Real Time is the discussion and the guests having them. There's not enough of that on TV. Kimmel and Colbert just preach to the choir and no one on the other side pays any attention. Maher puts necessary discussions on the table with people who don't normally have them.
Yes, as he gets older he becomes more crotchety about things but so do well all.
Yes he is overly rude about obesity, but he's also right about a lot of it. He's wrong about some of it.
I'm pretty much where he is as far as centrism. Going to the far right OR the far left is stupid.
He sure stirs up religious faggots who hate atheists. He bothers people who are party loyal too.
Props to HBO for giving him a forum to do his thing for the last couple decades.

>>2224976
Don't remember because I haven't really watched anything of his in a long time.

>>2225550
Why do you end your statement with a question mark? Are you so fucking unsure of yourself? It's like you're asking us.

File: 1744767402235.png (930.68 KB, 1243x829, anigay.png)

>>2225697
Fuck off with your faggotty anime, chimo. No one gives a flying fuck what a weeb incel thinks about anything. You keep your sick fetish to yourself instead of linking it to your political thoughts. That is if you want any respect.
Like we see your pastel big-eyed underage girl cartoons and think: "There's a mature adult man with a valid opinion about the world."

LOL

>>2225770
>establishment

LOL, what do you want? There's NEVER going to be anyone hardcore enough for you reaching millions on television.
Instead of seeing the glass as half empty try the other way. It's nice to have anyone at all challenging things for an audience.

What is with this website and so many people thinking everyone else is "smug"? As if that's a truly terrible trait. Who the fuck has a public speaking job on politics and remains humble and kiss assy? I'm not sure what the issue is.

>>2225890
>Why do you end your statement with a question mark? Are you so fucking unsure of yourself? It's like you're asking us.
It's more intended to question why there would be any other possible answer and why OP would even ask such a question.

I've always hated him, politics aside that slimy, smarmy facade is utterly repulsive to me.

>>2225900
Anime creampied your brain because you can't stop creaming your ass over it.

>>2225912
Oh. Well you'd be wrong. Over 30 years on television as well as a lot of stand-up comedy fans would make a pretty strong argument that most people do not find Maher insufferable. If they did, he wouldn't have a thriving career on cable TV, touring, and attracting podcast viewers.
OP is asking such a question because he assumes others besides himself do not like Maher. He's found you and a couple of others, so you do exist apparently. But you're an extreme minority, so your little grammar mistake "intended to question" is misplaced.

>>2225917
I think the fact that you find him "slimy, smarmy, and repulsive" is disgusting. You're exhibiting that same superior attitude now. You're being repulsive yourself. You're the exact same. You see yourself in him and that hypocrisy makes you bitter. Only YOU should get to be above everyone so you resent when people get millions of bucks to do it for a living. Fuck yourself. I've always hated you.

become?
he's always been insufferable and probably pissed me off the most when I agreed with him about something.

>>2225940
Seems like you shouldn't be watching him. I find it funny how people tend to go out of their way to engage with things they dislike. All of you are so prickly on this site. You're just as insufferable as the rightwingers on other sites.
If someone doesn't align with your specific, niche, extremism politics exactly, they might as well be the enemy, and retarded.
Maher hosts discussions from a unique perspective you won't find anywhere else on TV. We should all be grateful for him since Politically Incorrect. Yeah, he comes off a bit pompous from time to time, but it's against DUMB people. Wrong people. Those should also be your enemy. He preaches common sense in a world where there's little remaining. Even all the far-left bullshit on this website is entirely unrealistic. Like people who vote for Jill Stein or fucking write in their favorite. Why waste your vote? Just choose the lesser of two evils. Those are our choices.
You wanna burn it all down and scream from the sidelines ineffectually? Fine. I'd rather participate even if the choices aren't the best.
I guess I need the Bill Maher of forums. Because 4chan is country dumb far-right uselessness and leftypol is far-left uselessness. Both are toxic and angry and filled with bitter and lonely males with seemingly no real world social lives.
I need the absolute free speech of these places but every single one of them with any real traffic is filled with extremists and nutbags.

>>2225961
have you considered hes just unfunny

Cool, now we have englightened centrists on this site telling us how self-professed classical liberal talk show hosts cozying up to a quasi-fascist president who has effectively suspended the 5th amendment supposedly doesn't constitute a massive shift in the overton window.

Turns out those principled classical were just corrupt pieces of shit that never really cared about upholding their institutions.

>>2225972
>the overton window
I'm not a liberal who believes in the marketplace of ideas.

Even outside of Palestine Bill Maher's only shtick is shitting on millenials for not going to national parks, he's an absolute top tier retard

>>2224976
I dont watch this crap.

>>2225969
I've considered that may be your subjective opinion. But the fact that he's employed entertaining people with comedy devalues that opinion.

>>2225972
What "cozying up"? Can no one interview Trump without being accused of kissing his ass for some personal gain? Maybe he's going to take him to task.
There's zero evidence that Maher is going to start defending Trump. He never has and never will.

>>2225976
You clearly don't watch his show. You aren't entitled to an opinion.

>>2226027
Lol on the contrary i think i'm the only one here who actually used to watch Bill semi regularly

>>2226019
its not any less subjective than yours

Unironically this guys entire schtick is just being safe contrarian for money.

>>2226024
>What "cozying up"? Can no one interview Trump without being accused of kissing his ass for some personal gain?

Sorry but you quite literally don't know how media and journalism work in our society.

>>2224976
He's pretty much always been insufferable for me. He'd just gotten worse over time. Also HBO Max loves to shill his show.
Even as someone who's a strong atheist and was all about the new atheist movement in the 00s, Religulous fell completely flat for me. Absolutely forgettable… documentary? Can you even call it that? I don't remember anything that happens in it. I could sooner recite Sicko from memory than remember a single moment in Religulous.

>>2226066
>literally

How can one figuratively or literally "know" things? You need to retire that word from your lexicon as you're now using it as an ignorant teenager would, that is without purpose.

>>2226024
>Maybe he's going to take him to task.
LMAO
You have to be legitimately braindead to be a centrist. Something had to happen to you during childhood to fuck up your development. Your brain should be studied as a public health measure.

>>2226266
>shill his show

A network promotes their own creation? Why are you being a fucking retard?

You can't even SPEAK to your "enemies", lest you give them power and your full endorsement. May as well just join the team if you plan to interview that enemy.

Fucking moron.

>>2226266
I only clicked on this thread to see if anyone mentioned Religulous

>>2225974
it's not "liberal" to notice that the bourgeoisie limit the spectrum of acceptable opinions in public discourse through their control of communication

>>2225883
>I've always found Maher himself to be pretty insufferable … The value of Real Time is the discussion and the guests having them. There's not enough of that on TV.
My liberal parents were fans of his but I think he eventually annoyed them too much so they stopped watching. I think he might've been driven insane by not being able to do live shows during COVID because narcissistic showbiz types feed on crowds of people clapping like seals. He got on a whole warhorse about people wearing masks and how the woke menace was out to get him. I've actually seen him live… not my choice, my mother wanted to go see him and needed someone to drive her and bought ME a ticket without telling me, so I wound up at one of his shows as his stupid-ass hip-hop jingle started playing and he walked out to his audience who all jumped up hooting like morons. I felt so stupid lmao. He's really tiny and has a giant head too.

>I'm pretty much where he is as far as centrism. Going to the far right OR the far left is stupid.

Well, I think of it like this – One can be critical of existing conditions, but one shouldn't also lose sight of the "critique of the critique." That is, with respect to ideas and movements that are oppositional to existing conditions, one should also engage with them critically. Or, like, those who do radical critique should also understand that they have a responsibility to be critical of themselves, or their own traditions. But I see that as a different thing from centrist politics. More like, one should be cautious of how radical movements can lose sight of shared, obtainable goals rooted in immediate, practical, and material concerns while falling prey to utopian delusions or cult-like groups with revenge fantasies that prey on atomized people who have no immediate path forward and nobody to take it with.

>>2226319
And why should communists care about the obvious unless you bought into the liberal concept that ideas move people and not class interests?

>>2225780
The guy resembles your average atheist YouTuber skeptic. It’s excessive sarcasm that is just unfunny

Oh life's a big Andy Richter ride.

>>2224976
Never. I'm a fan. I never miss an episode of Real Time and I like his comedy specials. I do find him insufferable on his Club Random podcast. I loved Tim Heidecker's spoof of it with Fred Armisen. He should stick to just doing his show. I like his new rules and his little closing lecture on Friday nights. He'll probably do it a few more years and then retire. I'm in my 40s and take comfort in things I grew up with. Whoever, if anyone, takes over the mantle of that kind of show won't live up to Maher.

>>2225909
Does John Oliver count?

Back when I was still an anarchist in the late 00s/early 10s I'd watch Maher even if I disagreed with him on a lot. I think those disagreements made me resent him more over time and after Bernie lost in 2016 he started putting himself into the "never Trump" shitlib echo chamber which eventually drove him to the anti-woke echo chamber and ironically making him no longer anti-Trump.

Late Night Shows are such a weird concept to me as nonburger.

>>2226273
>>2226276
Why are you bootlicking an annoying neoliberal hack? Did you grow up watching Maher or something? Genuinely, there is something wrong with your brain. I don't even know how you found your way onto this site.

>>2229474
You are talking to 4chan refugees.

>>2229484
Who the hell on 4chan watches Bill Maher, get real.

File: 1744916988727.jpg (14.62 KB, 460x360, hqdefault.jpg)

>>2229471
That you say that is interesting to me. I hadn't thought of it before. Well, most of them have been more like entertainment / celebrity / comedy shows on network television that apparently carried over from radio shows, and people would watch them while falling asleep. They weren't really "political" until more recently.

Bill Maher's show aired weekly and was like a mix of the comedy / celebrity stuff with politics and cultural politics, like he'd have Marilyn Manson and an Evangelical schizo sitting on the same stage and have them argue with each other in front of a live audience. And then Salman Rushdie or some Hollywood actress and one of Nixon's Watergate henchmen would also be sitting there. The schtick of the show was that it was a bit edgy for television. Very 90s.

File: 1744932899288.jpg (118.02 KB, 564x564, 1728623791734521.jpg)

>>2229408
You're seeing things a little too simplistically if you think Maher is anti-Trump just because he sees all the far left extremist woke shit as a problem. It is a problem that the left needs to deal with if we're to have equal footing in elections. They didn't denounce the pronoun culture stuff that has people leaving the left.

Most of us on the left are not for all of that social overhaul shit like changing all the DMV forms to include "xir/zim/fae" or whatever because if we don't some confused transhumanist might kill "them"selves over it.

It's a major part of why Trump won again and everyone is ignoring it. We on the left seem to think just because we're smart and correct that we will be followed. No.
We need to learn to lie and dumb down to win back the retard vote. Play dirty like the other side has been. We're never going to properly educate these people so at least we should try to win them over however we can since the right obviously doesn't care about being honorable or even honest.

>>2229474
Pffffff. It's cute how you're so far to the left that Bill Maher is like Rush Limbaugh to you or something. Yes, I grew up watching Maher. You seem to think this website is way above that. You're not going to do well trying to alienate everyone who isn't some bookworm into ancient Trotsky and Marxist theory bullshit from over a century ago.

Would you rather this place fills with MAGA chuds? Because they're coming. Accept that I'm more on your side than they are.
So many people here are like lefty elitists who don't want to compromise at all. I get along with you better than rightwingers, but not by much. Be more realistic about the world. We have to meet in the middle. That's what Maher is all about.
You're all about some bullshit revolution and rebuilding in a communist utopia? LOL, never gonna happen.
I don't bootlick anyone.

>>2229484
I spent more time there because I took the fight to them. I'm a 2010s 4chan guy and almost everything that made the site good back then was destroyed with Trump 1.0 and the migration of more extreme people.
This website is FAR superior, but my only problem seems to be I'm not enough of a lefty. I'm just realistic. I'm against the 1% and that's the bottom line.
Until I find that free speech absolutist forum filled with the exact type of center leftist that I am, I'm going to continue posting here.
Even if your base group of posters isn't the warmest, you're still far more considerate and intelligent than 4chan.

>>2229510
Actually Politically Incorrect which aired on ABC in the 90s until 2002 was a weeknight show. For the last twenty odd years he's done a weekly show on HBO which is still going.
Foreigners will probably never understand the whole Johnny Carson, David Letterman years of late night. What it's become now is totally, tonally different since Conan retired.

Pretty insane that out off all the mainstream New Atheism-era figures only fucking Kyle Kulinski made it out alive without succumbing to becoming a fascist-enabling neocon piece of shit.

Marilyn Manson is one the best cultural icons reflecting our times with his perspective.

Bill Maher is the Andy Dick of political pop culture theater.

>>2229471

As people from the U.S.A. we need more outside perspective like yours. It is interesting to hear about this because our concept of your culture generally comes from classroom quips from our textbooks and educators.

For example, "Japanese people are very strict, and we kicked their assess in WWII"
"The English people have bland food, and we kicked their assess in the revolutionary war"
"Mexicans work hard and respect family, and we kicked their assess at the Alamo."
"French people have wonderful cuisine, hate when you cannot speak their language, and we kicked their assess in the quasi war. Also they are snobs.

"China has wonderful cultural contributions, like fire crackers and Chinese food also, we blew the up with those same explosive technologies while hanging them over the side of a cliff to build our railroads, which we now use to import all of out Chinese made items."

I could continue but you get it.
