When did Bill Maher become insufferable to you?
For me it was when he blamed fat people for the pandemic lockdowns from SARS-COV-2.
Now he is simping for Trump who by the way sued him for defamation because he demanded a birth certificate to prove he was not part orangutan.
>>2224976He isn't "simping for" Trump.
I've always found Maher himself to be pretty insufferable. He seems to be mad when someone other than him cracks a joke, and he wants his audience to react to his every joke exactly as he had hoped or else he chides them with a look or comment.
The value of Real Time is the discussion and the guests having them. There's not enough of that on TV. Kimmel and Colbert just preach to the choir and no one on the other side pays any attention. Maher puts necessary discussions on the table with people who don't normally have them.
Yes, as he gets older he becomes more crotchety about things but so do well all.
Yes he is overly rude about obesity, but he's also right about a lot of it. He's wrong about some of it.
I'm pretty much where he is as far as centrism. Going to the far right OR the far left is stupid.
He sure stirs up religious faggots who hate atheists. He bothers people who are party loyal too.
Props to HBO for giving him a forum to do his thing for the last couple decades.
>>2225697Fuck off with your faggotty anime, chimo. No one gives a flying fuck what a weeb incel thinks about anything. You keep your sick fetish to yourself instead of linking it to your political thoughts. That is if you want any respect.
Like we see your pastel big-eyed underage girl cartoons and think: "There's a mature adult man with a valid opinion about the world."
LOL
>>2225770>establishmentLOL, what do you want? There's NEVER going to be anyone hardcore enough for you reaching millions on television.
Instead of seeing the glass as half empty try the other way. It's nice to have anyone at all challenging things for an audience.
What is with this website and so many people thinking everyone else is "smug"? As if that's a truly terrible trait. Who the fuck has a public speaking job on politics and remains humble and kiss assy? I'm not sure what the issue is.
>>2225912Oh. Well you'd be wrong. Over 30 years on television as well as a lot of stand-up comedy fans would make a pretty strong argument that most people do not find Maher insufferable. If they did, he wouldn't have a thriving career on cable TV, touring, and attracting podcast viewers.
OP is asking such a question because he assumes others besides himself do not like Maher. He's found you and a couple of others, so you do exist apparently. But you're an extreme minority, so your little grammar mistake "intended to question" is misplaced.
>>2225940Seems like you shouldn't be watching him. I find it funny how people tend to go out of their way to engage with things they dislike. All of you are so prickly on this site. You're just as insufferable as the rightwingers on other sites.
If someone doesn't align with your specific, niche, extremism politics exactly, they might as well be the enemy, and retarded.
Maher hosts discussions from a unique perspective you won't find anywhere else on TV. We should all be grateful for him since Politically Incorrect. Yeah, he comes off a bit pompous from time to time, but it's against DUMB people. Wrong people. Those should also be your enemy. He preaches common sense in a world where there's little remaining. Even all the far-left bullshit on this website is entirely unrealistic. Like people who vote for Jill Stein or fucking write in their favorite. Why waste your vote? Just choose the lesser of two evils. Those are our choices.
You wanna burn it all down and scream from the sidelines ineffectually? Fine. I'd rather participate even if the choices aren't the best.
I guess I need the Bill Maher of forums. Because 4chan is country dumb far-right uselessness and leftypol is far-left uselessness. Both are toxic and angry and filled with bitter and lonely males with seemingly no real world social lives.
I need the absolute free speech of these places but every single one of them with any real traffic is filled with extremists and nutbags.
>>2225972What "cozying up"? Can no one interview Trump without being accused of kissing his ass for some personal gain? Maybe he's going to take him to task.
There's zero evidence that Maher is going to start defending Trump. He never has and never will.
>>2226034are we allowed to say Soy here?
testing
>>2224976He's pretty much always been insufferable for me. He'd just gotten worse over time. Also HBO Max loves to shill his show.
Even as someone who's a strong atheist and was all about the new atheist movement in the 00s, Religulous fell completely flat for me. Absolutely forgettable… documentary? Can you even call it that? I don't remember anything that happens in it. I could sooner recite Sicko from memory than remember a single moment in Religulous.
>>2226024>Maybe he's going to take him to task.LMAO
You have to be legitimately braindead to be a centrist. Something had to happen to you during childhood to fuck up your development. Your brain should be studied as a public health measure.
>>2226270>>2226066You can't even SPEAK to your "enemies", lest you give them power and your full endorsement. May as well just join the team if you plan to interview that enemy.
Fucking moron.
>>2225883>I've always found Maher himself to be pretty insufferable … The value of Real Time is the discussion and the guests having them. There's not enough of that on TV.My liberal parents were fans of his but I think he eventually annoyed them too much so they stopped watching. I think he might've been driven insane by not being able to do live shows during COVID because narcissistic showbiz types feed on crowds of people clapping like seals. He got on a whole warhorse about people wearing masks and how the woke menace was out to get him. I've actually seen him live… not my choice, my mother wanted to go see him and needed someone to drive her and bought ME a ticket without telling me, so I wound up at one of his shows as his stupid-ass hip-hop jingle started playing and he walked out to his audience who all jumped up hooting like morons. I felt so stupid lmao. He's really tiny and has a giant head too.
>I'm pretty much where he is as far as centrism. Going to the far right OR the far left is stupid.Well, I think of it like this – One can be critical of existing conditions, but one shouldn't also lose sight of the "critique of the critique." That is, with respect to ideas and movements that are oppositional to existing conditions, one should also engage with them critically. Or, like, those who do radical critique should also understand that they have a responsibility to be critical of themselves, or their own traditions. But I see that as a different thing from centrist politics. More like, one should be cautious of how radical movements can lose sight of shared, obtainable goals rooted in immediate, practical, and material concerns while falling prey to utopian delusions or cult-like groups with revenge fantasies that prey on atomized people who have no immediate path forward and nobody to take it with.
>>2229471That you say that is interesting to me. I hadn't thought of it before. Well, most of them have been more like entertainment / celebrity / comedy shows on network television that apparently carried over from radio shows, and people would watch them while falling asleep. They weren't really "political" until more recently.
Bill Maher's show aired weekly and was like a mix of the comedy / celebrity stuff with politics and cultural politics, like he'd have Marilyn Manson and an Evangelical schizo sitting on the same stage and have them argue with each other in front of a live audience. And then Salman Rushdie or some Hollywood actress and one of Nixon's Watergate henchmen would also be sitting there. The schtick of the show was that it was a bit edgy for television. Very 90s.
>>2229408You're seeing things a little too simplistically if you think Maher is anti-Trump just because he sees all the far left extremist woke shit as a problem. It is a problem that the left needs to deal with if we're to have equal footing in elections. They didn't denounce the pronoun culture stuff that has people leaving the left.
Most of us on the left are not for all of that social overhaul shit like changing all the DMV forms to include "xir/zim/fae" or whatever because if we don't some confused transhumanist might kill "them"selves over it.
It's a major part of why Trump won again and everyone is ignoring it. We on the left seem to think just because we're smart and correct that we will be followed. No.
We need to learn to lie and dumb down to win back the retard vote. Play dirty like the other side has been. We're never going to properly educate these people so at least we should try to win them over however we can since the right obviously doesn't care about being honorable or even honest.
>>2229474Pffffff. It's cute how you're so far to the left that Bill Maher is like Rush Limbaugh to you or something. Yes, I grew up watching Maher. You seem to think this website is way above that. You're not going to do well trying to alienate everyone who isn't some bookworm into ancient Trotsky and Marxist theory bullshit from over a century ago.
Would you rather this place fills with MAGA chuds? Because they're coming. Accept that I'm more on your side than they are.
So many people here are like lefty elitists who don't want to compromise at all. I get along with you better than rightwingers, but not by much. Be more realistic about the world. We have to meet in the middle. That's what Maher is all about.
You're all about some bullshit revolution and rebuilding in a communist utopia? LOL, never gonna happen.
I don't bootlick anyone.
>>2229484I spent more time there because I took the fight to them. I'm a 2010s 4chan guy and almost everything that made the site good back then was destroyed with Trump 1.0 and the migration of more extreme people.
This website is FAR superior, but my only problem seems to be I'm not enough of a lefty. I'm just realistic. I'm against the 1% and that's the bottom line.
Until I find that free speech absolutist forum filled with the exact type of center leftist that I am, I'm going to continue posting here.
Even if your base group of posters isn't the warmest, you're still far more considerate and intelligent than 4chan.
>>2229510Actually Politically Incorrect which aired on ABC in the 90s until 2002 was a weeknight show. For the last twenty odd years he's done a weekly show on HBO which is still going.
Foreigners will probably never understand the whole Johnny Carson, David Letterman years of late night. What it's become now is totally, tonally different since Conan retired.
>>2229510Marilyn Manson is one the best cultural icons reflecting our times with his perspective.
Bill Maher is the Andy Dick of political pop culture theater.
>>2229471As people from the U.S.A. we need more outside perspective like yours. It is interesting to hear about this because our concept of your culture generally comes from classroom quips from our textbooks and educators.
For example, "Japanese people are very strict, and we kicked their assess in WWII"
"The English people have bland food, and we kicked their assess in the revolutionary war"
"Mexicans work hard and respect family, and we kicked their assess at the Alamo."
"French people have wonderful cuisine, hate when you cannot speak their language, and we kicked their assess in the quasi war. Also they are snobs.
"China has wonderful cultural contributions, like fire crackers and Chinese food also, we blew the up with those same explosive technologies while hanging them over the side of a cliff to build our railroads, which we now use to import all of out Chinese made items."
I could continue but you get it.
