I've always called it the "ancient aliens effect" in which at any given point the significant portion of population in imperial core literally cannot imagine the idea of people outside the imperial core being able to accomplish anything and definitely not be superior to them in something. ts aint new either spanish conquistadors would rather tell eachother that demons and devils built the cities of the Inca and Aztecs than admit they built there own cities. Sometimes they will go far enough to go back conquistador demon shit but now they just say aliens instead.

I would like to clarify I used imperial core instead of the west since I'm sure this phenomena isn't just restricted to westerners now. To be fair China did get a lot of western intellectual "property" but that period is now mostly over. This is not really that different from how societies like Japan and even the USSR (not to mention many aspiring third world nations today) industrialized, by hiring western experts.

You can't keep science and engineering in a box, people who make this critique seem to think unless the Chinese independently discovered the foundations of semiconductor physics they should be forbidden from using it forever and ever. But thats fucking stupid and not how knowledge or science works or has worked, ever, and in any case for the past 10 years or so China has already copied all the homework it could and is now competing with the west esp. the US on a peer basis.

There is no such thing as intellectual property. It's just playing along with the liberal order of things because that's how the world economy is arranged for now. If every industry secret leaked and a terrible curse fell upon anyone who tried to enforce intellectual property (even by proxy), the workers would only benefit. The rate of profit would fall even faster and the more liberal the arrangement the less incentive to invest in R&D.
