>>669468 Paul really, really fucking hates Chinese abroad especially Chinese students and would like them all expelled and deported. He has a long history of doing this. He and his NYT China-based colleges are deeply linked to US millitary intelligence, and Mozur reprints ASIO (Austrialian intelligence) and ASPI (Australian/US arms dealing thinking tank) talking points verbatim. His goal with these kind of reports is to delegitimize the views of Chinese citizens living abroad and build support for their expulsion and implementation of systems of loyalty tests and other sort of institutional, anti-Chiense racims.

>>669535 I'm sure China is a nice place to live for most people. But America would probably be nice to live in with an oppressive regime, as well. It's just if you want to have actual freedom and agency as a human being, you're fucked.
This website definitely couldn't exist in China, for example. That's no way to spend your short existence on this Earth. I'd rather have America exactly as it is now, with all its faults, than any sort of nanny state trying to wag its finger at me or bash my skull in because I say something that isn't convenient to them.
The permanent psychological impact of living in an oppressive state can be subtle and may not even be noticed by most people, just like being in an emotionally abusive relationship with someone who pays for all your meals and clothes.
There are no shortage of states that are far more liberty-accepting than China yet also have better quality of living. Pragmatic incorporation of some socialistic concepts into an otherwise capitalistic and decentralized society seems to consistently be the winning strategy over the past several centuries, and I'd bet anything that'll still be the case even in 1000 years from now.

Here is a story by the EXACT SAME NEW YORK TIMES author. He stalked, harassed, and investigated every single individual "pro-Chinese" account he could find on Youtube and Twitter, accusing them all of being paid or fake accounts, and building a campaign for formal FBI investigation into them. But it's totally normal to harass and endanger Youtuber who oppose the Cold War, he's just protecting you for propaganda you see.

>>669548 >This website definitely couldn't exist in China, for example. This website has been accessible in china with no issue for its entire existence, even when it was on 8chan, and continues ot be so. I used it without firewall for half a year while living there without any issue in 2019.
The only websites and ips blocked are from corporations like google and facebook, who are direct CIA-colluding competitors to the domestic tech market they try to grow in china. Microsoft services, as they made a deal with the chinese, are accissible fully. No other websites are censored.
You need to re-evaluate your caricature of china you have in your mind. While I was there, i critiqued china on leftypol without a firewall for the actual issues i saw there first hand. The rampant poverty among the elderly, the bad road safety, lots of bullshit jobs, the cramped badly maintained public housing and badly maintained buildings in general, the all encompassing camera network. For all this, despite the moral panic i was told constantly even by the foreign consulates who were there to help out other foreigner, I never got any sort of trouble for it, never got a warning, never got denied anything.
But "they block my communist website because its litterally 1984" is not one of the things they do. The police arent oppresive, laws are more like guidelines, you usually get warnings first and fines later.

>>669468 Random twitter people claiming random shit with unverifiable videos, is not journalism or proof.
If "reputable" reporters go to twitter to spread this information, its because it does not stand up to any sort of scuritny, its just lies, but twitter is meant to spread this message to people already in the know, drive them further into anti-china or anti-whatever hate than they could be driven to by the main newspaper, because the main newspaper has to be at least somewhat verifiable, even if that often doesnt pan out either if you dig through the 4 layers to radio free asia.

>>669548 in using a socialist market economy you need to have a strong central government overseeing everything, if they were to let up and deregulate you'd have all the freedom enjoyed by russia during shock therapy. maybe it's not a theoretically pure circumstance, but it's the one they have to work with
>I'd rather have America exactly as it is now, with all its faults, than any sort of nanny state trying to wag its finger at me or bash my skull in because I say something that isn't convenient to themthe united states has these "freedoms" because the ruling capitalist position is unassailable from below, but you must have noticed how quickly the media was to embrace free speech restrictions and pressuring companies to deplatform rightoids once trump came to power. that wasn't even a working class threat, but a threat from a faction of capitalists. whenever the working class posed any kind of threat we got red scares, and america abandoned any pretense of being the land of the free with no qualms about subverting, intimidating, jailing, and killing its own people. and this doesn't even begin to cover the freedom in countries on america's periphery subject to its exploitation; as long as it's not us doing the killing but the death squads and dictators we train and fund it's fine, right?
>There are no shortage of states that are far more liberty-accepting than China yet also have better quality of livingthose countries developed under capitalism, china is trying to develop to where they are with an eventual transition to socialism rather than the aimless wealth accumulation that defines the west. glasnost would cause a flood of foreign money to media outlets, NGOs, and dissidents that agitate for capitalist restoration, exactly what happened in the soviet union. china relies on using capitalist accumulation to their own ends and suppressing the capitalists themselves, once you lift the suppression it's over
>Pragmatic incorporation of some socialistic concepts into an otherwise capitalistic and decentralized society seems to consistently be the winning strategythat sounds a lot like china right now
