Guise what the fuck is this shit? A "Bitcoin city" at the base of a volcano? How does this relate to American dollar imperialism? I read El Salvador started to use the US dollar entirely in 2001 – I'm sure to benefit interests we understand all too well. But I'm honestly puzzled at the current situation. Is this resistance or integration? Good, bad, or ugly? I'm surprised no one seems to be talking about it here. Please redirect me if I'm mistaken.

Seems to just be opportunism- "leaders" whoring out the country to foreign cryptobros and whales.

Would you rather use a money controlled by another country who can inflate as much as they like or would you rather use a money controlled by no one and can't be inflated? It's the same reason Saddam and Gaddafi wanted to create a gold standard and then one day for no reason at all woke up dead

It indeed reduces the commissions for foreign remittances.

>A "Bitcoin city"
An idealist thing to attract investors, according to Bukelele the volcano activity would energize the miners, I haven't seen the technical papers in which they base this, but too few cities use that as a source of energy.

https://www.nsenergybusiness.com/features/top-geothermal-power-producing-countries/

I am not sure the cost of investment in fossil fuel plants and generators vs. geothermal plants and generators, but apparently geothermal are less expensive, but it would be interesting to search if they have powercuts due to fluctuating magma flows, because in wind generation, that shit that stops every time is useless. I want you to watch the planet of humans in that regard, that not even the so-called green Europeans countries have managed to displace fossil fuel because the continuity is impossible to maintain with alternatives in many cases (except hydric).

(prices in watts per hours of consumption geothermal)
Planet oF Humans of Michael Moore is in YouTube.

>How does this relate to American dollar imperialism?
I did publish a criticism on cryptos in general, not related to power consumption in the crisis thread, 5 screen captures of the dodge co-founder.

>Is this resistance or integration?
Resistance against dollar, integration to the new crypto ruling class.

>Good, bad, or ugly?
Good and kinda ugly. Good because El Salvador is going outside the FMI rule, and U.S. rule, State of Dept changed the head of the embassy there because wasn't meeting the goals, and I think there will soon a democracy (tm) campaign there. My problem with bukelele is his weasely attitude. He comes from the FMLN front party, withdraws its militancy, and decides to run as a third-way party, and shats not only on the liberal option and FMLN but also on the geopolitical left in the region (Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua).
Tries to sell himself as an alternative, splitting things up.

If you speak Spanish, you can search some videos in "Prensa Alternativa" speaking positively about him.
I still support him up to some point but behaves like a moron in some points.

>Gaddafi wanted to create a gold standard

The problem is that the big banks of America with their short-selling they manipulated markets:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/sep/29/jpmorgan-chase-admits-spoofing-us-market-manipulation-pay-920m

https://www.pionline.com/regulation/jp-morgan-pay-920-million-spoofing-trades

I still like BTC is cheaper than the remittances, and also is out of the control of the WS controll.

Except you know by speculators of all kind. Same with regular money but without the tools available to central banking system to lightly mitigate such attacks.
Instead of being at the mercy at of one big USA shark, you're exposing yourself to a swarm of Ancaps piranhas.

OP here. First of all, interesting line you're implying. I really hope nothing bad happens. Further, I'm not an econfag or a cryptofag, but I was wondering about bitcoin generally, how can it become more or less valuable? And how is the value of one (1) unit of bitcoin determined? I mean, doesn't there need to be a standard to compare with? So when you see those graphs, is it bitcoins value against the dollar? When "line goes down" for bitcoin or any crypto is that 'inflation'? As I remember, bitcoin has gotten MORE valuable despite that slump a couple years ago, and it's a fraction of a fraction of a bitcoin that's equal to one dollar. Does that mean bitcoin only 'deflates'?

>>678221
The whole way 'policy' is 'marketed' definitely spells that to me.

>>678303
thank you famrade I'll look into the Moore and your critique. Do you explicate more on the 'new crypto ruling class' in your critique?

>>678308
>Ancap piranha swarm
This swarm shit really is the future huh. And you may want to check the first part of my post with tons of questions about crypto. It's basically worth what someone will pay for it? Sounds like a good way to get assfucked, and why they are working on a bunch of securities and finance legislation.

Thanks for the responses, all.

Ngga they were talking about this shit months ago
To put it simply El Salvador’s economy is seeking investment with shitty tech marketing that suggests a city relying off the transaction of bitcoins will make the BTC value go up and cement crypto as a legitimate stable form of currency.

If you think this is stupid and a scam, it’s because it is and the Salvadoran government isn’t managed well enough for their not to be corruption that blocks off all forms of infrastructure development due to a manicale cancer called Uncle Sam that’s intent on keeping the entirety of Latin America poor with endless cartel violence and canceled infrastructure projects.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/22/el-salvador-plans-bitcoin-city-raise-1-billion-via-bitcoin-bond.html

Also 1 billion dollars is far from enough money to build and maintain a city for longer than a month

In the crisis thread, yes, the screen capture explains.
The problem is related to vitalic, for example, associated with silicon valley, with 30 to 70% of their servers there, so they earn for the ecosystem created in ethereum.

Regulation can arise in BTC, the problem is that it is not integrated in the governments to avoid that, governments directly reject it because they don't have any control on it. You can tax it, you can create IDs related to BTC, you can fork the chain to create IDs related to unique wallets and IPs that can be related to funds and stuff. and if the blockchain is open you can audit what block did what transaction, and with proper regulation, you can trace where stolen money went.

Unique IPs: 7
