Was skimming through the wikipedia article of Sri Lanka and found out the country had two attempts at a revolution that were really complicated but also very interesting
>Maoist guerrilla rises against pro-Soviet demsoc government
>Government supported by USSR and China among others, rebels supported by DPRK and also China too somehow
>Like a dozen different leftist factions all fighting with each other and against another dozen different ultra-nationalist factions
>State terrorism and contras that make what happened in Central America look like a joke
>Ethnic purges and mass killings everywhere
So what exactly happened here? Why did the JVP failed? What can we learn from these failed insurrections?

What we can learn is that if socialists dont like a socialist country, they should move to a capitalist country and build their own socialist country out of its corpse.
When trotsky stopped liking stalinist russia and fled to mexico, he should have become president of mexico.
Socialist countries should be considered "occupied housing" while capitalist countries should be considered "free real estate".

Asian socialism fucking sucks compared to the original model
There’s literally no evidence to suggest Maoism was even created by a fag that even read capital
Shit doesn’t amaze me why China is the way it is

>Asian socialism fucking sucks
Does it really ? Look where China was 100 years ago, look where they are now. Compare it to India who was in a similar situation than China 100 years ago

>There’s literally no evidence to suggest Maoism was even created by a fag that even read capital

You think Mao didn't read Marx ? what leads you to believe that?

Mao was ML, what we now know as Maoism was created by Peruvian and SEA communists in the 70s. Btw can't find the source right now but I remember some Soviet officials met with Mao and his people and the first impression they got was that they definitely hadn't read Capital.

Maotism barely has a connection to Mao

The young Mao read Stalin, Lenin, Nietzsche and a bunch of Chinese anarchists. He didn't get around to reading Marx until the 1950s.

Yeah but Capital was written in German and then translated into Chinese for the PRC and Russian for the Soviet Union, and then diplomatic staff translated From Russian into Chinese and back, that's a lot of opportunity to have things lost in translation.

what is Maotism with a t ?

That might explain why he was better at people's war than administration.

I was reading about this recently too. In the 1920s and 1930s Sri Lanka attracted a lot of young radicals from London & elsewhere in Europe who became acquainted with the anti-colonial movement in Sri Lanka through student contacts. The first political party in Sri Lanka was the anti-colonial Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) which had an eclectic leadership at first but gravitated toward Trotskyism by the late 1930s.

Actually this is a unique situation, I think it's the only time that a Trotskyist party was the vanguard party of the proletariat de facto.
>In addition to the impact of Indian striving for national independence, the rising tide of doctrinal radicalism in English universities was bound to further stimulate those disgruntled intellectuals who studied abroad. It was then that the Marxist-Leninist exposure of modern colonial imperialism as the alleged last stage of decaying capitalism was used, thus providing the young revolutionaries with an appealing theoretical foundation for their future activities.

>They learned their socialism mainly in the classrooms of the London School of Economics and Social Sciences, dominated in the interwar period by the fascinating personality of Professor Harold J. Laski. But America also can claim to have influenced at least one of the founding fathers of Ceylonese Trotskyism, namely D.P.R. Gunawardena. Popularly referred to as “Philip,” he was introduced to so-called scientific socialism during his studies in the late twenties at the University of Wisconsin, where, together with his Indian counterpart Jayaprakash Narayan, he “received his training in Marxism from Scott Nearing.”

Trotskyist proselytism and Trotskyist doctrine are usually only good for generating microsects, here is an exception.

A friend of mine's father was a high-up member of the JVP from the 1970s - 2010s. Let me know if you have any questions and i'll try to pass them on.

Ask him why everyone kinda just cucked out after Wijeweera's death, did they not learn anything from the fiasco that was the Shinning Path?
