says Zizek in the Form of Intellectual Property and the Failure of the Bourgeoisie to completely privatise it. But where is he taking that from? Most people use Netflix and Spotify. It seems that the Opposite of his statement is true, or have I misinterpreted him.
>>

 No.91560

Isn't shit like Netflix and Spotify extremely recent? Also I say there's a low-key cultural class war between the two ways of procuring media.

It seems as if Netflix became notably big internationally between 2013-2015 while Spotify grew massively during practically the same recent timeline, 2014-2016.

Yes but he made this argument in a kinda recent video by BigThink. He argues that the Concept of "Intellectual Property" is Communist in itself, because it can flow freely. Capitalism won't be able to solve this according to him.
But yeah…I think they solved it lol. I'm sure I missed something, but I think he just talked some nonsense in this one

It's true that there is a new form of economic formation based on rent-seeking through intellectual property on platforms like streaming. But it's rent-seeking disconnected from production. A serf would have surrender the physical product of his labor to his lord, whereas you don't need human labor to multiply digital data. So there is no value produced and those things are no commodities.

A video game for example is a commodity for one fictious second when a creator sells it to a publisher. After that, it ceases to be a commodity.

>So there is no value produced and those things are no commodities

Ok, but the fact you still pay for the Service of Spotify still makes the future for this non-Commodity kinda bleak, dont'cha think?

Have you read Four Futures? One of the future scenarios explored in the book is a world where there is abundance akin to one where there are Star Trek-like replicators but in order to justify hierarchy the system is governed by Intellectual property rights that are enforced. So basically everyone can just replicate and reconstruct everything even physical objects with the advanced productive technology that exists but licensing similar to how it exists now in the digital world prevents you from doing so in a world with a differentiated mode production from traditional capitalism that the author calls 'Rentism'.

Intellectual property depends on removable media. If all software and data becomes part of an online sharing paradise, IP goes away for obvious reasons. If an evil mega corp gobbles up everything digital IP goes away too, because it will just have have user-profiles that manage access to files and programs. If you pay for online streaming or whatever, you are just bribing somebody to change your user access privileges, you aren't buying a commodity.

It makes it worse than capitalism, in capitalism exploitation is obfuscated by workers receiving back the value of their labor power; rent-seeking without value production is just pure parasitism and you need dystopian levels of ideology and violence to enforce it. Bourgeois classical economists like Adam Smith, David Ricardo or Henry George already had the bourgeois consciousness of landlord parasitism, being anti-rent can is something that's not even socialistic in nature.

Lmao, you have no idea what you are talking about. Only firsties pay for streaming.

Does anyone have that /int/ meme of Russian and Brazilian chads laughing at first world posters paying for their streaming and music?

I haven't. Basically a Star Trek replicator creating everything without labor would destroy the value form and capitalism with it, for better or worse.
