 No.10538

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the second week of the proposal system. To see last week's successful proposals, please go to the voting topic for this week. We have these proposals which failed last week, that perhaps we should discuss again this week:

>>10296 Proposal: Create actual policies on subjectively moderated topics
>>10297 Proposal: Standardize ban lengths for various rule violations"

Once again, I must clarify that ONLY MODS CAN ACTUALLY VOTE ON PROPOSALS OR VOTES. Anons are free to have their say and offer suggestions and feedback to improve proposals/votes but these are only advisory and user votes are not counted for official decisionmaking. But who knows, a persuasive enough argument might sway the mod team to your cause?

Please reply to this post to post proposals for consideration next week. If a user proposal seems like a good idea, we may adopt it and make it official. Thanks everyone. Feel free to post your opinions but try not to spam or needlessly bicker back and forth in order to keep the thread clear and legible. Any off-topic posts may be removed without warning.

Proposal: Create actual policies on subjectively moderated topics.

(But how can this be done?)

Proposal: Standardize ban lengths for various rule violations.

 No.10546

Taking this off-topic conversation out of the voting thread.

You can read the cookie vichan sets yourself in the browser debugging in 'Inspect Element', then go to storage (there's only one, 'serv', which vichan uses to tell Javascript on your browser if your post successfully posted, unless you are a mod which gives you another one to allow login and once used for checking updates or something) by viewing it in your browser. You can prove yourself our site does not set more under any circumstance. Furthermore, you can actually read the contents of the 'serv' cookie. It's literally just the current thread URL and ':true/false' if your post worked or not. Same for every other vichan imageboard that didn't do stupid shit.
It might be possible for this cookie to be replaced with regular local storage if you consider it a concern, I haven't looked into that code yet so I can't say for sure.
I assume you're addressing the leaked message was literally just shitting out ideas in an instant chat months ago, as meaningless as the /i/nvasion proposal by a former moderator. Actually, more meaningless, as this idea was never even seriously considered or worked on for obvious reasons.

Filter National socialist to Not socialist

 No.10553

Proposal: Create an OC thread analog for /b/ where not strictly leftist shitposts and images can be kept

>>10540
I'll say nay on this, if mostly because a lot of the variance is based around if we think they are an average user (clear or mostly clear ban log for the past month or so, their post history, the offense done, ect ect) to usually make bans for percieved users shorter than other people. Of course it can have false positives but its probably the best way to do it while remaining anon.

It might be a good idea to establish general timeframes for some offenses though, but nothing totally official or binding.(WVobbly)

Proposal: Harsher measures against both bait making and bait taking

 No.10568

>>10560
If a site needs mods to delete bait, it deserves to die. But that's just my opinion.

 No.10662

>>10551
For

>>10560
For, but only have the punishment be a short ban (around 10 minutes, at most 30 mins) for taking or posting bait

 No.10663

Proposal: Include a list of the word filters in the FAQ or rules page, just somewhere accessible so people know the current word filters in place

 No.10674

>>10663
Vote for, sounds fine.

 No.10677

>>10663
stupid, the point of word filters is to catch people off guard. if there's a list, it'd be easy to circumvent, thus making filters pointless. reddit mods go back

 No.10678

>>10663
Abstain, takes away the fun.

>>10560
As much as it could boost quality, bait is subjective… I can see this becoming a problem when enforced if it's this vague.

>>10540
I don't see how we can't just list the ones we can think of and put guideline ban lengths next to them. What's so vague about it?

 No.10692

Proposal:
Ban incel threads (there's like 3 right now on /b/'s first page)

 No.10699

>>10692
/b/ is for that kind of shit anyway

 No.10705

>>10699
Talking about relationships and sex? Yes. Being unironic misogynistic retards? No.

 No.10706

>>10699
>>10705
Oh and also there's a lot of racism and projected self-loathing in that kind of thread. It's not just "tfw no gf", it's more like "if you're not a rich white in The West, and don't have a 7 inch dick and you're not at least a 8/10 it's over for you so you might as well kill yourself now because you're a shitskin and you're worthless here and all women are X and all leftists are Y" (granted, that kind of post comes mainly from a certain poster)
They unironically shill /leftcel/ so yeah, I think there should be less tolerance for that kind of thread.

 No.10710

Against
Like >>10677 it would go against the point of worldfilters.
>>10551
Approve, however I might affect some historical texts about the NSDAP.
>>10553
Approve
>>10540
Approve, however those ban lengths shouldn't be given as a "hard number" but rather like for ex "from 5m to 6h".
>>10692
I approve but that would require to be a little more precise about the definition of "incel threads".

 No.10711

>>10560
Like Discomrade said this is to vague to be meaningfully and consistently applied without making moderation too harsh.

 No.10712

Fair enough, I rescind my proposal for a word filter list

It's more a Discordianism reference that's been around since the 1960s but that doesn't make you wrong.

 No.10732

Proposal: Enable all three 'Image Hover' settings by default.

This feature may currently be found in the [Options] setting in the top right, then enabling the relevant checkboxes, then placing the mouse over an image. A page refresh may be necessary.

EDIT: Changing this proposal to not include 'Image hover on catalog', this change already has two seconds and passes.

Approve.

 No.10790

>>10787 (me)
maybe not the Image hover on catalog

 No.10799

>>10732
Agreed except for image hover on catalog also, that seems a little much..

 No.10823

I can't log in rn so I will confirm in the staff room that this post is me
>>10732
Agree with enabling the 2 except for the catalog hover
>>10692
Vote yes with negotiation on definitions as others have mentioned
>>10560
Abstain but I think this could be worth considering again in the future with specific circumstances
>>10663
Vote against. I think a public list would negate the utility against for instance "guests" spamming the filtered words and ruin the fun a bit
>>10551
Vote yes
>>10553
Vote yes however I'm not sure what exactly kind of thread you are describing

I can't see the soyjak spam rule here but please give me a vote no against it
