What is this designed to prevent exactly?

It's been used occasionally for the past 4 months, it's not new.

captchas a psyop. i swear i enter them correctly and they say "incorrect". big tech gaslighting.

Captcha's been acting weird, a few minutes ago it wouldn't generate any, but I still got the "captcha didn't load" message, it took longer for this to be fixed on /meta/ than on /siberia/
Anonymous 2021-10-10 (Sun) 15:49:42 No. 13683
I think captcha shouldn't be used, BUT f you're gonna use one use the same system that 4chan is currently using, since it's much more user friendly.
Anonymous 2021-10-10 (Sun) 23:05:06 No. 13684
>>13683 >I think captcha shouldn't be used I suppose it's a complement to the mods that you think that, but bot spam can easily post 24 hours a day, multiple posts a second. There is no feasible way a small group of volunteers already dealing with a designated raid group of ex-users, daily /pol/ gore spammers and CP advertisers are going to deal with that. And there's no way the userbase is going to dilute or ignore that level of shitposting.
What system does 4chan use now, and what makes it more user-friendly than typing 6 letters? I haven't used it since they were doing the Google 'select images' crap.

Go to 4chan trash and just click on reply and just make a random post in a random thread, the captcha works for 10 minutes at a time, is easy and fast, and doesn't give errors.

it is taking something out of context that as far as I can see was not posted by a mod.

Mods are not talking about implementing such a system.
>>13740 >>13688 Thank you for explaining.
One hurdle with fancier captchas is that we want the site to be accessible to users who don't use JavaScript. I believe it should be simple and harmless to increase the expiry time and simplify the puzzle.
The configuration options suggest there could be a 'sessions' feature using a cookie to prevent you having to solve for every single post. We can look into that.
>>13687 It is currently only enabled during suspected bot raids. We're aiming to recruit new janitor staff very soon, so hopefully there won't be times when 'the mods are asleep'.

>>13743 >Thank you for explaining *thumbs up*
>we want the site to be accessible to users who don't use JavaScript True, it's just the number of times errors pop up in the past make it quite inconvenient at times.
>configuration options suggest there could be a 'sessions' feature using a cookie to prevent you having to solve for every single post. chulo
>currently only enabled during suspected bot raids. Oh good, I'm glad no "pass" bullshit is real too.

going to use this thread to ask wtf is up with the cloudflare shit. it's been impossible to post from my phone or via tor (clearnet and hidden versions) for days. have to post via terminal now, it sucks balls a captcha is preferable to this shit

Sorry for the inconvenience.
It seems your IPs are blocked when the cloudflare "attack" settings are higher than medium, which is the case for the main domains used.

could you enable captcha for .onion posting maybe? shadowbanning via a cookie, ETag or LastModified should also be possible, even on a .onion
