Thread mergers are dumb, most of the generals end up turning into cyclical arguments about stuff that isn't related to the general. New threads have the best discussion, merging threads does nothing but make discussion worst.

 No.14288

Yes and no, threads should only be merged into established threads when they have nothing to stand on their own. Which I think is the done thing.

 No.14289

>>14287
>most of the generals end up turning into cyclical arguments about stuff that isn't related to the general.
1) How? The main point of merging is to MERGE 2 threads on the same topic. That's the reason Evangelion threads got merged
2) This isn't thread mergers being dumb, it's people not restraining themselves from derailing.
>New threads have the best discussion, merging threads does nothing but make discussion worst.
No it doesn't it just creates more repetition. I've seen 3 threads at the same time all on the same topic and all sinking because people are split between threads for no reason. Every month there's another thread about the same dumb shit that repeats the same arguments, content and posts as an already existing one, its redundant and pointless. 3 Evangelion OPs got made that are the same thing and by 3rd on people jut linked to older replies because people didn't read the older thread or try to respond. This isn't 4chan and it's breakneck speed. Mods merge at discretion and on request, so it does nothing bad.

 No.14290

Just as a reminder the alternative to dealing with duplicate threads is deletion, I much prefer merging, since it preserves existing posts, streamlines catalog and provides more 'flesh' to thread.

>1) How? The main point of merging is to MERGE 2 threads on the same topic. That's the reason Evangelion threads got merged
most of the time the merged thread and the general are not about the same topic, even if the OPs are similar

 No.14296

Threads should be merged when the new thread is about the exact same thing as the other. As in the Eva threads' case.

 No.14314

Merging threads is fine, context is overrated and massive, year-spanning general threads are the best known form of thread in order to maintain healthy discussion and debate on the imageboard format.

So next time, think before you make a new thread, search the catalog thoroughly to avoid duplicates and mind your reddiquette.

 No.14318

it's literally autism. they're trying to categorise every thread and put it in a neat box with the others. soon all we'll have is generals

 No.14319

>>14290
there's over 350 threads in the catalog. how often do you go down to the last ones? deletion makes sense if there was a 50-100 thread limit, but in this way, nobody misses (or remembers) the last thread in the catalog

 No.14320

Give me an example because I haven't seen that, are you the guy mad about the NNN thread and sex threads merge?

>>14319
>there's over 350 threads in the catalog
Exactly, and a large amount are just duplicate threads, others are just bait and need to be deleted.
>nobody misses (or remembers) the last thread in the catalog
Sure, but how about the middle of catalog? Like page 10? The Russian Thread drops there often and then bumps, because it's a slower general and the various duplicate threads don't help.

 No.14333

>Give me an example because I haven't seen that, are you the guy mad about the NNN thread and sex threads merge?
threads about the vax or virus origin and the general arguing over masks

The rule about COVID topics going into a COVID thread is the reason because people kept making OPs and spamming catalog

the fuck is this supposed to mean, schizo.

 No.14336

I agree, same with moving threads. Its also really fucking annoying and breaks up conversation and (You) tracking. Usually more half the posters don't realize what happened or where the thread went and stop posting in the middle of a heated debate.

You are /pol/cels in denial. Go back to 4chan, newfag.

 No.14564

Threads that get moved are locked and redirected to the moved link, so don't make shit up.

 No.14567

Its pretty obvious when a thread goes from 30 PPH to 1 after being moved. Maybe people aren't following the link or feel like they are being censored, or wanted the discussion to be more serious and don't think siberia is the place for that. Maybe they think its a mark against the topic, idk, I only see what I see which is no replies after a thread is moved.

It also breaks 4chanX thread tracking, so if people reply to me in a moved thread on a different board that isn't in my thread watcher I don't get a notification, and if people reply to the thread it doesn't update the replies since last read post count and I am also never going to check a thread with (0) replies since last post. Congrats on being an ass though.

>a thread goes from 30 PPH to 1 after being moved
LMAO thread don't have PPH nice try. Also most moved threads are those that
A) are shitposts taken to /siberia/ or
B) old threads that have good content but the discussion has run its course and they get sent to archive or a more topical board. The GDR thread had that happen and got sent to /edu/ for that purpose.
>people aren't following the link or feel like they are being censored
If they aren't following then they're not actually that invested, if they feel censored, they're retards given that its still on the goddamn site.
>wanted the discussion to be more serious and don't think siberia
Nice try, but shitpost subjects go in the shitpost board and OPs ought to try harder if they actually seek genuine discussion on /leftypol/, not to mention the rules stating clearly the kind of content that goes on /leftypol/
> I only see what I see which is no replies after a thread is moved.
Horse puckey, most threads I see moved to /siberia/ get plenty of posts unless its dead shit.
>breaks 4chanX thread tracking, so if people reply to me in a moved thread on a different board that isn't in my thread watcher I don't get a notification
It's not that hard to move the thread watcher to another thread, and frankly using those is pretty fucking lame.
>I am also never going to check a thread with (0) replies since last post
That's called laziness
>congrats
ok frat girl
>being an ass
This is leftypol not reddit, you complain about something don't expect feel-good replies from all.

Are you a jannie? Do we have a retard anglo on the mod team?
You can disagree or provide your own contradictory anecdotes but you can't tell me that the last 10 threads that I watched get moved didn't die because they did. Telling me how the site works when I already know doesn't prove anything, this isn't an argument it is a complaint thread. I don't like how the site is moderated because it fucks up post flow and feels like jank.

>frankly using those is pretty fucking lame

Maybe the site should use functional software instead of broken garbage and people wouldn't have to use browser extensions to make the site usable.

Anta baka? The fuck does that have to do with leftypol.org? Also that's not a typical chan settings page
>Are you a jannie?
Are you a /pol/yp? Don't be a faggot
>Do we have a retard anglo on the mod team?
>anglo
Stop using terms you don't comprehend
>you can't tell me that the last 10 threads that I watched get moved didn't die because they did.
Give examples of those threads that "died" because I lurk /siberia/ plenty and didn't see any thread die in the past 7 days that didn't deserve to
>I don't like how the site is moderated because it fucks up post flow and feels like jank
It doesn't fuck up flow since all posts are retained; If you're too normie to use alt boards then post in the safe /leftypol/ generals 'cause the mods only move shit that is requested or reported. Threads don't die unless people aren't actually all that interested in them.
>Maybe the site should use functional software instead of broken garbage
The software is just fine, it's easier than ever to find individual posts and threads, the search system is simple and has a massive range of options and the fact that you're demanding reddit-tier site design says a lot. Nobody else other than you and some nerds in /tech/ use extensions on this site, it's more than functional compared to 4chan or 8kun and perfectly fine for a fucking anonymous carpet cleaning imageboard.

 No.14574

>>14572
>Also that's not a typical chan settings page
It is 4chan default settings. You are wrong. Leftypol is shit in comparison and it is part of the reason people don't use this site. 8chan didn't have these problems either and sites like 420chan died because refusal to add modern features. Leftypol is headed in the same direction.
>Stop using terms you don't comprehend
Wanna debate mechanical materialism?
>in the past 7 days
I'm talking about months. The threads are gone now.
>Nobody else other than you
Prove it.
>it's more than functional
No its not, default 4chan has more options. Several of these missing options have been reported as bugs since this iteration of site was started and it was broken as fuck for over a week at the beginning. Autists insist on using it because it is open source.

 No.14576

>>14574
>It is 4chan default settings
No they aren't, just saying "leftypol bad" doesn't make it so . Leftypol P hasn't dropped and is getting bigger, this has never been a big community.
>Wanna debate mechanical materialism
Are you retarded?
>I'm talking about months.
Are you fucking kidding me? MONTHS? This is the reason you're so pissy? Some thread dying over several months? Lurk 4chan moar and don't use your dumb extensions and you'll notice that this is the norm for all image boards, MFW
>Prove it
The lack of people complaining about the system is proof enough, you're the only person I've seen moan about this in months outside of bugs.
>No it's not
<its borken
IDK what site you used but it has never been broken to me. And 4chan options are trash redditshit that is unnecessary for a chan.

We have all of these. (Thread watcher is called watchlist)
The only one we don't have is 'Inline quote links'.
