posts requests (webms, links to videos etc with timecodes) here and I will try to turn them into gifs
I've made pics related for /co/ over the last few months
also if someone wants pointers on how to make gifs I can assist. I use mpv, kdenlive and imagemagick

>I use mpv, kdenlive and imagemagick

Not OP but I use ffmpeg. It's tedious as fuck but at least I don't have to download more programs.

I just use ffmpeg too unless there's original editing needed.

making sure shit can encode webm (and other formats) is my job. but webm will never dethrone GIF

ffmpeg is not as good at encoding GIFs as imagemagick. maybe one day I'll get around to improving its encoder. which in practice means improving the paletteuse filter

Your GIFs look glorious, ngl. My shit GIFs I made with ffmpeg can't compare

>making sure shit can encode webm (and other formats) is my job
how to get a job like this

get into broadcast backend stuff. learn to love 80+ year old quirks of the TV industry

heh, "interlacing"

(I've been involved in a cartoon archival project and all the formats and encoding quirks are a pain.)

yeah interlacing is one of the pains. you have top field first vs bottom field first. sometimes video is interlaced but not marked as such in the metadata. also things like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-two_pull_down
another pain is pixel formats, especially when combined with interlacing. fun times if someone has converted 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 incorrectly. upshot is that this creates lots of billable hours
I heard there was a higher res release of MLaaTR recently but for some reason it's cropped to 16:9 >:(

Oh that three-two pull down looks like a mess. Converting FPS in general is understandably horrible.
Cropping of new releases is a serious problem. There have been many times they've gotten excited for a new release just to find it's somehow worse than the previous ones, whether it be low-effort remastering, cropping/panning to 16:9, dropped frames, you name it. In rare cases they've actually found a source that does everything great except for a couple of messed up scenes, so they make a release from two sources.

As a side note, this may be of some interest: a recent Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy 2160p AI upscale.

got inspired, made this

Can you do a gif of Tracy doing that jerk at 1:32?

File: 1633721072334-0.gif (2.88 MB, 727x1017, jerk.gif)

File: 1633721072334-1.gif (3.11 MB, 545x763, jerk2.gif)

here you go anon. made two versions, one with fixed dither and one with no dither

File: 1633723567731.gif (3.24 MB, 479x671, jerk3.gif)

figured out how to use ffmpeg's bayer dithering with a custom palette. this one looks best IMO

Isn't this sped up?

it's just under 24 fps, so no. unless I fucked up in kdenlive

it's probably faster than the other two because imagemagick only allows integers for -delay, and I used a delay of 5, meaning 50 ms -> 20 fps
ffmpeg is smarter and computes GIF frame delays from timestamps

Thanks this will make a great reaction picture.

A Nazi drew an artwork today.

Did you?

File: 1634137366836.gif (3.72 MB, 1280x720, bunker.gif)

I don't draw I just encood

I had a great idea for a reaction GIF earlier today and I can't remember what it was >:(
