Wikipedia looks like shit now. The lack of borders makes the page harder to navigate and the floaty sidebar looks janky and irritating in my peripheral vision.
You can still use the old skin though by appending '?useskin=vector' to the url, most conveniently by writing a rule in any redirector addon.

>Wikipedia articles will now have a maximum line width. Research has shown that limiting the width of longform text leads to a more comfortable reading experience, and better retention of the content itself.

This is just terrible web design.

ITT discuss the new wikipedia layout and website skinning in general

 No.18212

Was just about to make a thread on that, but you did better.

And yeah, it's fucking atrocious. Everything looks like mobileshit nowadays.

It still looks the old way for me, but based on your image… isn't that how the French WP looked since ages?

The archwiki now also uses the new skin. Notice how weird and off-center the box on the right looks.
I recommend writing a generic redirect for sites matching the regex '.*/(wiki|title)/[A-Za-z_]'.

I like it
I hated how I had to scroll to see the table of contents

Wikipedia in other languages had something similar before this change

I have a plugin to change website's css, that I exlcusively use for wikipedia.
You can see more about it here:
https://uso.kkx.one/style/99515

Sometime in the last two days, wikipedia updated their design, and now the theme is broken, unfortunately.

I'm weeping. I can't go back to the normal wikipedia style. The custom style I have not only has more pleasant colors for reading, it also has a bunch of other nice features. It also has a max length to the lines which really helps with dislexia and just reading comfort in general.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I hope this gets updated.

You can install the redirector addon for chrome or firefox and add the following regex redirect to force the old theme:
Redirect: (.*)/(wiki|title)/([^?]*) to: $1/$2/$3?useskin=vector
This should work for all wikimedia instances and without js.

COMRADE!!!! AAAAH
thank you so much.
How the fuck did you know how to force skins on wikipedia? Or is it just common knowledge for the uncircumcised?

they're making everything "mobile first" now, desktop wikipedia looks more similar to what phonefags see

Ironically mobile wikipedia looks somewhat better on desktop, because it retains the shaded background of boxes, isn't overloaded with flat ui elements and actually uses the available screen space.
Vector22 has the layout of a mobile news site and the ui density of a spreadsheet.

Personally I think it's an improvement over the previous default, but custom css should still be used for optimal experience.

It's an objective improvement. The only people malding over this are dumbasses that think shitty Bush era web design is sticking it to the globohomo world order.

 No.18246

Idk why people are malding over this, it looks very similar. Btw, theres a button down to the right of the page taht makes the text cover mpre space

 No.18269

What I want to know, is why doesn't the mobile version of Wikipedia show the "categories" list at the bottom of the desktop version of wikipedia

which you'd have to click EVERY FUCKING TIME you load a page in this horrifically off-centred and space-wasting layout
