Do I really need to have a github repo showing a bunch of projects that would make executives wet when applying for a programming job now?

I imagine it would help.

depends. maybe for digital agencies and other smaller companies. But for big companies they mostly just want you to solve algo + system design interview questions and don't give a fuck about your portfolio.

Not by much.

Because they have already data mined you and know more about your portfolio than you do?

>>19260
no because they already have their established process that they need you to fit into like any other cog. so what you buot doesn't matter, what matters is if you can clear their standardized interview, work with their standardized tools, and follow a standardized workflow of accept ticket, tag git branches in your fix, change labels on your PR, clock-in some time so they can gauge your factory worker output of no of tickets per sprint to measure your velocity and plot a graph about how much value you are providing over time.

No.

How do I become a successful senior engineer?

do plenty of interviews

Hmm well, you do work to obtain promotions. You need to hustle a bit I guess. What is your situation right now?

 No.19746

>>19243
Not necessarily. However, you should work on projects outside of work to increase your skills, regardless of where you keep the source code.

 No.19753

>>19746
Why? Cashiers don't practice giving back change in their free time why should I waste my time with this shit?

How did you even get into coding if you didn't already have personal projects that drive you to learn it? Your workplace isn't going to teach you from scratch and courses are just to certify you understand the bare minimum of a language.
Coding is art, if you don't come into it seeing yourself as an artist then you probably aren't cut out for it. You have to have a portfolio like any other art job.
