A large number of players are complaining about the difficulty of "Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree."
Players from China are particularly angry, with the Simplified Chinese region currently showing only a 31% approval rating.

来自中国的玩家尤其愤怒,目前简体中文区仅有31%好评

>game notorious for being difficult
>release actually difficult dlc that you can't just shut your brain off for
>outrage
Gamers really are fucktards, to an extreme.

>>36303
Well the DLC shouldn't be harder than the main game. If 69% of people think it's too hard then it probably is.

Also half the negative reviews also say performance is horrible and unoptimised. Why are so many people dickriders for giant corporations?

>>36304
>Well the DLC shouldn't be harder than the main game
In a game where being hard is a big selling point yes it should. It's additional content you are going to see after beating the base game.

>>36304
>Well the DLC shouldn't be harder than the main game
Why? It's presumably for people who have already beat the game, why shouldn't you want something more challenging?

>>36303
I still remember complaints about the Doom Eternal DLC being "too difficult" after the base game got lauded for it.

Wasn't the main game like this immediately after launch too? They'll probably tune things in the next couple patches like they did back then, so armor doesn't offer worse protection than paper and bosses are less horrible.

>>36298
They also hated Malenia because she was hard, despite being the best boss in the game. I'll try the DLC when I'm done with 9 Sols and it's up on the bay.

>>36305
it wasn't said in the op
still dumb if true

>>36303
>Gamers
go back to twitter

Many games have complaints about optimization, but this time it's clear that difficulty debates occupy a large part.
抱怨优化的许多游戏都有,但是这次很明显难度争论占据了很大一部分

>>36319
>but this time it's clear that difficulty debates occupy a large part.
then it's dumb.
I'm pretty sure there's chinese users who pirated dark souls before that should know about fromsoftware's difficulty and being a staple to there games at this point. The hard difficulty is the point of gameplay i.e Ghosts 'n Goblins or any Kaizo hack/game.

I got bored of ER after 100hrs when I got to the mountaintops and it felt like I saw nearly everything the game had to offer. I hated how it continues From's trend of focusing more and more on combat while barely doing anything to actually alter combat at all besides adding 1 or 2 new mechanics while bosses feel more and more like caricatures of themselves with the nth "swordsman that does rapid flurry of attacks and wacky AoEs with 2nd phase where they do that even more." The DLC seems like more of the same with bossfights that looks so ridiculous it seems like the actual challenge is trying to see the boss through all the particle effects their 30 hit dmc attack strings make than playing another sequence of simon says where you dodge and attack when the game wants you to. I had the most fun exploring the world and going through the legacy dungeons, but it's such a far cry from DeS and DaS overall. But the aforementioned is what fans want out of the series, so it's what it will be.

That might have a lot to do with Elden Ring breaking into the mainstream this time. It attracted many players drawn by the names of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin, the beautiful art style, and the epic fantasy adventure. However, these players are not veteran Dark Souls fans and might not have anticipated the high difficulty level included.

FromSoft is stuck in an arms race against its own fans. They make bosses harder and harder, knowing that within six hours of release sperglords will be posting clips of no-hit naked SL1 boss kills. They make stories more obscure and convoluted, knowing that a legion of different sperglords is on hand to datamine their game and comb through the files to identify every stray filename and polygon, then tell the world via hours-long 'lore' video essays. They try to balance an array of PVP weapons, knowing that hordes of sweaty tryhards will find every exploit and imbalance and make online play a living hell unless promptly patched.

Souls games weren't meant to be 'popular,' and FromSoft is groaning under the effort of making video games that can survive such 'popularity.'

It isn't, at least for DeS and DaS which aren't even particularly difficult except for very few difficulty spikes.

>>36400
I think they hit the sweet spot lorewise with elden ring, like you don't need to understand every single piece of lore to get a general gist of what where they going with. thematically it's very rich too.

gameplay-wise it's clear FromSoft peaked with Sekiro. they hit a sweet spot where the game was thrilling and satisfying without ever becoming too frustrating. it seems that activision holds that IP though.

>Plays hard videogame
>Looks inside
>It's hard
The woke mob is making everything Hollow Knight or Celeste 🙀

>>36549
oh yea baby it's hard ;)

Most of them are complaining about the easy anti cheat (the little blue bear as they call it) making performance worse, not difficulty.

Game Over screens should make fun of you if you die enough times. What would be really cool is if they had access to your social media and made a post if you die enough in a particular spot, so people you know can mock you as well. Being bad at videos should be one of the most profound shames imaginable. It's literally a kid's toy that's designed to be beaten.

I’m tired of the popular lie that these games are hard. It’s not even that difficult. The whole game is learning the patterns of bosses until you don’t die. Simple stuff.
The expectation that we never see generous use of the “game over” screen by modern developers is really odd. Sometimes failure is the point.

>>36567
Dude, claiming Ghosts n Goblins isnt difficult is plain dishonesty

>>36567
Having to die a bunch of times to beat the boss is 'difficult'. Not to mention that some people don't have any technical skill to beat the bosses regardless.

>>36567
My experience has been, if something is really difficult, in a soulsborne game, I turn it off then try later. Usually a break helps and maybe you get better at partying or blocking or rolling or whatever to avoid hits and do damage yourself.

Wow Chinese fans and game journalists are vocal about the new DLC and they are not happy. They're frustrated with Rellana and the whole difficulty. I guess they were holding out hope for a gacha route. There's even a petition that has garnered thousands of signatures to make it easier. Obviously that happened but it shows how unhappy they were.

The lore and challenging combat are supposed to pull you into the world and the story, which doesn't really work in Elden Ring. The Lands Between is so dreamlike and fantastical that it feels profoundly unreal, and thus the player is not invested in changing or saving it. The background story is a confusing mess of dueling family drama, and none of it ultimately matters to the player. You roam around, kill enemies, collect some colorful runes and at the end get to choose which color of ending you want. There's no larger theme of decline/rebirth like in the Souls games, and no real hard choices to make.

The DLC was also very clearly not planned on release, but was pulled together after the original game sold incredibly well. The story in SotE makes even less sense than the base game, but again, it doesn't matter because the world is so convoluted and absurd. Anything could happen! Just shut up and enjoy the spectacle!

>>36572
>I guess they were holding out hope for a gacha route.
absolutely shameful

It's kind of unfortunate that these games acquired a fame for being difficult. It kind of shuts out any discussion about them beyond difficulty. If you criticise them in any other way you are met with the reflexive response: "git gud", or a response with that sentiment. The embedded video makes a the point, that I agree with, that more and more the gameplay of these games has been boiled down to the loop of learning an enemies attack pattern, attacking within the appropriate window, dodging at the right times, and rinse and repeat. Which is a tried and tested perfectly solid gameplay loop, but it's basically Megaman. The earlier games in the franchise were not so focused on that gameplay loop, rather it served a larger gameplay experience.

>>36572
Lol been years since Ive seen this pasta

>>36589
>the player is not invested in changing or saving it
Have you played any souls game? All of the games heavily emphasize that the word is stuck in some unsalvageable samsara and the game itself is more of a personal struggle than a hero's journey. None of them really incentivize "saving" the world, as if such a goal was possible

> The background story is a confusing mess of dueling family drama, and none of it ultimately matters to the player.

Even the dullest players understand that the golden order is a facsimile of the roman empire and that it is a top down imposition on an ancestral land, which already covers most central themes lol. Probably the clearest any of the souls game have ever been. You don't need to understand the intra-faction strifes to get the central theme.

> There's no larger theme of decline/rebirth like in the Souls games

Did you miss all the deathroot shit what are you talking about, did you even play the game

>>36650
Obviously the broad strokes of "world is fucked, player character changes it" are understandable, but it's a lot more complex than "link the fire or don't" this time. Elden Ring has six different endings. You need to understand the background and history of the place if you want to make an informed decision, which is why people are scouring the 'lore' in order to make sense of it all.
>the golden order is a facsimile of the roman empire and that it is a top down imposition on an ancestral land
Literally the first time I've ever heard it described like that, where are you pulling that from?
