Generally speaking, nomadic Arab tribes around the Sahara are usually reactionary, tending towards Islamist separatism and weakening whatever state they are living in because their small population relative to the size of the territory they inhabit makes it very easy for them to be bribed by Gulf monarchies to capture and steal the natural resources belonging to the state they are living in. For example the three anti-French coup governments are all fighting against these kinds of Islamist insurgents. Of course RSF is a lot more than a militia at this point, but they are still supported by the Gulf for the same reasons.
