Are there any drugs that are actually good for you? Like psychedelics and stuff like that, is any really therapeutic or is that just a meme?

 No.2970

Yeah the MAPS project is making it pretty clear in their research that psychedelics have incredibly therapeutic benefits if used properly.

Well, from my experience LSD is very good if you're struggling with social anxiety and depression because it breaks you out of ingrained automatic negative thought patterns that you aren't even aware you are in.
But you won't be magically healed after taking it. A good analogy I've heard is , imagine if you were lost in a forest , psychedlics will give you map to get out of it ,but then you have to actually put in the work to actually do it.

Seconding this. Psychedelics have given me very important personal insights but they were far from being some big, messianic "aha" moment that magically turned my life around. That part still ultimately depends on what you do with whatever insights you may gain from the experience. Consequently, it's also worth noting that not everybody has these really profound, inward experiences. Plenty of people just get fucked up and don't give it much thought after it's said and done. Your mileage may vary yaddah yaddah

Taking psychedelics when you're depressed is like the worst thing you can do.

>>2976
Would you say you're an introspective person? I am and psychedelics never gave me any insights I hadn't had sober.

>>2969
It depends on what exactly you mean by good. If you are talking about the treatment of diseases, then yes.
Cannabis, LSD, Ketamine, MDMA etc. all have therapeutic qualities for various physical or emotional problems.
Even for recreational use, at least cannabis, mushrooms or LSD (ketamine and MDMA less so) can have positive effects on your mood and stress management, possibly even enhancing your ability to self-reflect and making you more open to new ideas without being dangerous. As long as you're at least 18yo and don't have a tendency towards addiction or severe emotional problems.

Generally speaking, yeah, I'd say I am. However, in light of your question I think I may have failed to account for and mention another factor in my experiences in the last post too – I was deliberately doing psychedelics _for_ the "soul-searchy" stuff, which probably directly affected my outcome. Like the old heads say, intention is important with these things. Either I jumped the gun or worded my initial post poorly; either way we can see by your anecdote that being introspective =/= Profound Psychedelic Insight™ inherently.
In any case, my last point I think stands a little better in light of that as far as OP's question goes: one's mileage may vary yaddah yaddah.

>Taking psychedelics when you're depressed is like the worst thing you can do.
Why is that?

 No.2981

>>2980
Because your mood determines the nature of the trip and it's easy to get trapped in negative thoughts which can lead to a full-blown panic attack

Speaking of bad trips, can you trip alone or do you need a babysitter?

 No.2998

>>2982
first time i tripped it was with a friend who also tripped - both our first times, was in public, and i ended up helping them through a bad trip. It was finr and doable. After that i tripped at home alone or with friends. No bad outcomes. Ive even tripped at work (basically alone) and it turned kinda sinister as it got dark out and i freaked some ppl out by being high as shit, but i lived and never got talked to about it by anyone… this was all shrooms though.

Anyways i can say that at least for shrooms, its really just massive enhancement of ordinary life, like hard mode, plus some drowsyness and of course when youre peaking you might not be able to understand people talking, everything moves, etc. But ingrained reactions and movements stay there… and youre basically sober minded otherwise, except little to no working memory. Dont shy away from bad trips…. if you know how the drug works, you wont spiral that hard. Ive had worse "bad trips" sober than on psychs fwiw. Just stay calm, remember ur not dying (or accept that you are…) and go with the flow, or fight it, whatever. Also had bad trips on way overdosing edibles. Just ride it out is all. Nothing someone else can do but tell you what you already know.

The trip sitter stuff is bullshit imo, unless ur on salvia or pcp or something idk

 No.3359

>>2981
Meh I think you can trip while depressed. Just try and make your setting a bit better and if you have difficult experience ride it out and it probably won't be harmful in the long run.
>>2982
Probably a good idea to trip with a trip sitter you trust while you are first getting used to psychedelics at least and don't know what to expect. If you are going to trip by yourself first time I recommend taking a low dose in a safe and comfortable environment without people that will judge you and try and have at least one number of a trusted ally you can contact beforehand to chat with you and help you calm down if you feel the need.

<Very large amounts of caffeine have been known to destabilize bipolars and schizophrenics inducing mania or psychotic episodes. This isn’t terribly prevalent but is known to occur.

<Caffeine is also known to interfere with some antipsychotic medication, generally first generation antipsychotics, specifically clozapine. Antipsychotic dosage generally has to be increased to account for this interference.
