oh shit i didnt know, sorry and it aint bait, its my opinion

If they're playacting nazi bullshit on a gmod server they're not in the streets smashing windows.

Yeah? Why not? Why is it even a question?

I think it's a grim turn of events, another avenue for Nazis to groom kids while simultaneously invading majority-queer gamer spaces.

That said, valve will not do anything about this. This is the result of years of Valve's permissiveness of anti-gamer raids by Nazis in steam community.

Should this even be a question? The short answer is no, absolutely fucking not - there is no reason to ban any content that other players are enjoying if it is otherwise within the rules, simply because some people find it objectionable. This is exactly the kind of nonsense we fought against back in the "Doom and Quake and GTA are gonna make all the kids school shooters! Mortal Kombat murder simulators!" era ; at least back then the majority of those with such views were right-leaning, out of touch religious "think of the children" types (though there were some progressive left-ish ones).

When I heard about this issue I went out and actually looked at one of these servers' webpages and read up on the RP - it seems to be a very, very comprehensive setup, akin to the kind you'd see on many other "heavy RP" servers. This isn't just a bunch of people going around yelling about how great Hitler is and giving out some real world ideology reading lists - there's a bureaucracy, the equivalent of someone who wants to stamp papers in a Gau or whatever the fuck. There are resistance factions, allied armies, and other factions and characters involved. At least from what I can see from their site, this isn't some sort of Nazi recruitment, its just a historical RP server set in a time that clearly contentious and makes for interesting storytelling.

There are RP servers for GTA Online where entire police depts are simulated, where all sorts of crime stories are old, where people clearly behave in a way that it is objectionable to one or another. People play as crooked cops, or pimps, or gangsters, or prostitutes, or cartel members or whatever else t hat someone could say "why would anyone want to play this! Its PROBLEMATIC". One of the better multiplayer open world survival titles out there is Conan Exiles, which takes place in Howard's Hyborian age which some people may feel is PROBLEMATIC … its all pretty much the same thing. Come on, lets not have another "Oh no, someone's playing on the German side in a WWII-esq shooter! Nazi propaganda!" scare like that ghastly Extra Credits episode that hammered their credibility. Hell, if some GMOD server decided they wanted to have a repressive Soviet / tankie /authcom RP server, or one inspired by Khmer Rouge or Maoist China, or whatnot on GMOD would the admin be wringing his hands over "some people seem to really like these despotic historical figures and movements?"

Time could be better spent having better filtering/flagging systems so that everyone knows that a given server is designed for a kind of content, if they're actually worried about kids "finding their way on" to something they shouldn't. However lets stop pretending that because people enjoy a game with something someone decides is "problematic" it is indicative of their real world views or proclivities. Its sad we still need to have this conversation.

I honestly cannot tell if this is satire or not these days.

From what I'm aware, these kinds of servers are filled with actual Nazi or cryptonazi losers. They are not a sincere attempt at 'historical RP'.

>satanic panic and literal nazis gathering together are the same thing

 No.27376

I don't see any evidence of that, unless you make the faulty assumption that "nobody would enjoy RPing as a Nazi unless they were actually a Nazi" which is just as stupid as "Someone playing Farming, Truck Driving, Power Washing etc..Sim either wants to or is capable of/training to do these behaviors as their occupation". Likewise any sort of "Anyone who RPs a cop in GTA Online RP servers, or even a dirty cop, must be in favor of police brutality in real life! Why you would ever take on such a role if you were not an evil person!" nonsense.

I don't want to list the particular server group here that I looked into the community (I am actually inclined to grab GMOD on sale just so I can see how it actually plays out in person and if it differs from what is on the community site) as I don't trust people here not to harass them, but I dont' see anything that suggests its serious "Actual Nazi or Cryptonazi losers", its a very comprehensive RP , including saboteur and resistance factions and a lot of civilian, commercial, and bureaucratic roles even on the Nazi side that are not the kind of thing the usual roles those who seriously support the ideology usually want to take on. You don't see a lot of hardcore Nazis chomping at the bit in order to make Gerhart Dummkopf, a mid level manager at a textiles factory stamping papers and ensuring boxes get loaded to take processed cloth to varying other fabrication plants or something.

Outside of either "Everyone who plays this is a real Nazi!" or "Well, real Nazis will eventually come play and like it therefore we can't have that" equally inaccurate and fallacious rationale, I don't see any reason to be upset about this conceptually

>>27375
It is absolutely exactly the same thing. In both cases someone sees something "PROBLEMATIC AND DANGEROUS" from their perspective that people are having fun PRETENDING to do, and ascribes that either they either adhere to the same ideology in the real world already as who else would pretend to do something "BAD" or that it will be a "corrupting influence" leading them into actual BAD and we just can't take that chance! Everyone's fun must stop to PROTECT _ and after all something BAD really shouldn't be fun in the first place unless you're a BAD person.

Well my only real exposure to these servers is from Gmod trolling videos, and it just looks like a bunch of teenage losers from that, I admit that's hardly a comprehensive look but still.

Ahh okay, yeah that's kind of a selection bias, its a bit like those pushing "lefties dont' know anything" agendas go and find the most obnoxious and ill informed person willing to get on camera at Occupy , or the /r/Antiwork disaster etc

I'm sure that there will be trolls and edgelords and kids who just wanted to play on a server they can dress up in Hugo Boss uniforms etc.. but that doesn't make it justified shutting it down, or eliminate those more mature RP servers with a higher threshold of interaction. Like most moral panics, people will find the most objectionable thing they can hope to push their viewpoint even if it isn't representative. Besides, if the worst thing on the server is a bunch of edgy kids that's no reason to make everyone else pay for it - at most its a moderation issue.

I feel conflicted because on the one hand I agree that people should be allowed to do most anything they want that isn't affecting others, but on the other hand… Nazis. Then again I play TNO so can I really criticise?
