Once you find out that the same people own both the grading houses, and the auction houses, it all just clicks into place.

 No.28959

i should try my luck finding those in my country and selling them on ebay for thousands

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug.
Even common open box games with some kids name scribbled all over it in permanent marker and a ripped label goes for hundreds.

 No.28970

meanwhile in reality people just pirate the rom and apply fan patches that add all the removed and censored content for free

middle class income scam

Back in the day I remember hearing that sellers were hoarding copies of earthbound to make it more and scarce to jack up the price of it.

Is going to Vimm's even considered piracy? I don't think it's ever been shut down.

Yeah I never understood people who 'collect' things that just means buying them. Like ok birdwatching, rock collecting I kind of get if you go and find them yourself, but what is the achievement in just buying things online to hoard them in your little room and never show them to anyone except maybe a few friends. if your 'collection' was worth a damn you'd be trying to share it with the world like a museum does

Collecting/hoarding is the final form of consumerism. Buying products not to use them but simply to have them.

Yeah. It's disgusting.

its where all that surplus wealth labour aristocats dump there money into when they have nothing else fufilling to do; in order to feel something.

Can't speak for others, but I "collect" speakers (and other audio devices/components too, but mostly output). Then rip em up, and wire them together. It's fun.
By the way, you can get studio quality setups for a fraction of the price by doing this. Inb4 acoustic autists ruin the conversation

thats a hobby tho; rather than just consuming plastic crap at massively inflated prices just because

the key to it being bad is the x10000 inflated prices on niche shit no one cares about.

 No.29005

Yeah this: >>29004
True collecting is buying shit and not even taking the shrink wrap off it because that hurts the value.

Using the old hardware is only useful if you have a crt tv or an oled with an upscaler that can emulate crt scan lines and effects.
But even then it’s cheaper to buy something like an everdrive cart than buy all the old cartridges, and if you are playing on a newer display, might as well emulate with a pc to avoid the head ache of hooking up an old console. We’re slowly reaching the point where FPGA can mimic the old hardware itself as well. The small differences probably won’t matter much at that point especially if you have a decent crt monitor. Sadly crt monitors are also rising in price due to scalping but that’s a separate topic.

In that case they are making a future investment. By collecting the product and keeping it in mint condition, they, or their of spring, can sell it for gangbusters. That's the real reason people were collecting stamps (aside from the hobby factor).
It's a very bourgeois mindset.

This relies on other dipshits valuing the product enough to buy it later though.

the irony is that they will

1) never reproduce
2) hand off a bunch of crap that will be worthless when they die and is only inflated right now to capture idiots like them

its a ponzi scheme

Oh totally, but look at NFTs. That really exposed how many dumb cunts have way too much money.
