What conditions would need to change to make Daikatana a success? John Romero wasn't a good project manager and the game sucks ass, and its success wouldn't have meaningfully changed executive meddling and weak worker bargaining positions across the industry. Plus, it wouldn't change the fact that games like Call of Duty have lower skill floors and ceilings making them way more accessible and enjoyable for the average person playing multiplayer. It's too bad Daikatana's failure caused 9/11, but that's the world we live in.

>>34941>'m glad that boomer shooters died outWhy?
>>34942>halo would still be the killer app because boomer shooters aren't friendly enough to a general audienceNo, Metroid Prime would be the killer app and Samus would become the most popular Nintendo character. We would've had Metroid Prime 4 by this point and Bungie would've continued to make Marathon games.

I mean it's cool that there's a revival now for the people that want to play them but I think the evolution of the FPS was a good thing. Of course you can criticise the COD trend as well which eventually got old but I think those kind of FPSs were a good step forward

2. The only genuine contribution of COD was ADS. But ADS sucks in arcade-y games and ARMA did it first anyway so…

Half Life was already steering the industry towards greater emphasis on realism. Brown era was a historical inevitability.
No.34968
>>34947>Metroid Prime would be the killer app and Samus would become the most popular Nintendo character.Multiplayer is what drove Halo. Metroid Prime only had multiplayer in 2 and Nintendo wasn't going to do online, so couldn't replicate Halo 2 and 3 regardless.
No.34971
>>34965That doesn't necessarily mean that military shooters would look the same as they do now if boomer shooters were popular, they'd probably look closer to Wolfenstein: the New Order and such instead of CoD. And when it comes to story-focused FPSs they'd probably be immersive sims instead like Deus Ex and System Shock.
>>34968I said "Bungie would've continued to make Marathon games" for a reason.

>>34968In this universe Nintendo would also be different after id convinced them to let them put Mario on the pc, and it's success along with the runaway hit that Mario deathmatch would bring convinces nintendo to invest heavily in online multiplayer.
