Kart racing general
You may now play as Alunya in SuperTuxKart.gentooGentoo
>>8448>Based shit, anon. Is this original content?Somewhat. I've adapted some free (Creative Commons) assets and made the rest. License.txt gives details and links to source models.
Kart model is just Emule's kart untouched meant to be a prototype placeholder.
Alunya is mostly a reskinned pic related with original hair, slight head shape mods and custom rigging. Animation is original.
There is a Blender file in that .zip so you can use her in other games. I can also upload one with the original detailed rigging but I suspect the UVs are broken in a strange way.
It took about a day so it's very rudimentary but she gets the job done. You can download her in-game by sorting addons by date. Currently unapproved, will probably be fine
despite the icon being unknown license and having subtle political symbolism beyond FOSS.gentooGentoo >>8452Very cool work anon. Always great to see more content.
If you want suggestions for a vehicle, a T-34 kart would be cool (plus Alunya looks more anarchist so it's sectarian solidarity)
>>8455https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperTuxKart sez
>SuperTuxKart (STK) is a free and open-source kart racing game, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 3. It features mascots of various open-source projects. SuperTuxKart is cross-platform, running on Linux, macOS, Windows, and Android systems.
>SuperTuxKart's gameplay is similar to that of the Mario Kart series, but also has distinct elements, such as collecting and using cans of Nitro. The game features the mascots of several open source projects. For example, Mozilla Thunderbird plays the referee, flagging the start of the race and saving players when they drive off the course. The game supports single player, local multiplayer, WAN multiplayer, and LAN multiplayer modes. Networking modes were introduced in version 1.0. >>8456It's currently downloadable in the add-on repo but you won't see it on the website until it's approved.
https://online.supertuxkart.net/addons.php?type=karts&name=alunya-the-catI didn't have plans to put it anywhere else but a git repo isn't a bad idea if anyone wants to work on it.
https://git.disroot.org/stk-alunya/alunyaIf you make a pull request or issue, respond to this thread to get my attention.
>>8458I'll have some time on the weekend if someone sets a date and time. The international ping will be insane but the game handles it surprisingly well. You can make cock.li throwaways for online accounts.
>>8454How would Alunya be in it? Taking off the top turret and having her sit in the hole?
If I can't find an existing 3D model, will you care if I use an arbitrary tank that looks close enough?gentooGentoo >>8459I figured more like this (but with the tank being smaller/lower so she's sitting more openly in the hollowed out top turret)
>If I can't find an existing 3D model, will you care if I use an arbitrary tank that looks close enough?Well it would be neat if it looked like an actual T-34 but hey it's not that big a deal, only my opinion anyways. Alternatively you could use some kind of armored kart that is decked out like a CNT-FAI tractor tank.
>>8450>icon by unknown artistMost likely it's from Paps, no? You can contact him here:
https://twitter.com/PPDPPL_art/>>8457tbh I don't think Alunya fits in with the rest of the cast in game. Being free software it will of course always be possible to mod her in, but why should she be part of the official standard version of it? It's like putting in Vivian James (not that I would personally have a problem with that).
>>8465>PapsThanks. I've sent an email (plus it would be nice for them to see the character if they don't lurk here)
>tbh I don't think Alunya fits in with the rest of the cast in game.>but why should she be part of the official standard version of it? I agree that she doesn't fit with the free and open source project mascots theme, but this kart is not for the standard core game. This player is only intended for the community add-ons repository which only about half are mascots or FOSS related. They even have the Hong Kong pig as a featured downloadable kart (featured karts appear at the top).
Speaking of which, Alunya the Cat is now a featured kart!
gentooGentoo >>8748These two issues have been fixed:
- Corrected names of end markers for winning and losing animations.
- Added a bone for fingers on the right hand and animated a fist curl.
The rigging of the fingers is very dodgy but you're never close enough to notice.
>>12357No, because I don't have GMod or Steam.
I can upload a .blender model if anyone wants to add it to a game they have.
>>13741Nice work! I'll check it out (did they change any in 1.3?). Was AFK for a few days so I didn't see this. I know Cocoa Temple Expert was notoriously hard compared to the others, made me git gut.
>>13736I decided not to at the time as it's dramabait. The name itself is a reference that gives search results for anyone who decided to look up the character source.
Actually, now that I think about it, you could unironically call her a FOSS mascot:
https://git.leftypol.org/leftypol/leftypol >>13904One useful piece of advice is to choose a kart that suits the track. Almost all speedruns use a medium (like your current one) or heavy kart, depending on the layout. There's also some points on when to use Nitro, and skidding on the straight track.
This thread has a bunch of good advice for people struggling to beat a the Cocoa Temple run.
https://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11586 >>13904>silver one is cocoa templeKnew it.
But yeah it's possible. I forgot to turn down the grpahics settings so it's lagged to hell, but it's possible to win even with a bunch of fuckups. It is hard though unless you've had a bit of practice.
It was my first drive in a month and laggy. Sabinyak can eat a dick :^) >>15139>who cares about if it's good or not it's a clone of a nintendo gameNo. Kart racers are their own genre. Clones aren't worth playing if they are shit.
>it's not too badIt's garbage. Just because it runs does not mean it isn't garbage. Fuck off with your defending the garbage developers that can't even clone things right.
>>15132Why should I when you can find a list of kart racers, try them out and form your own opinion? Why should I go into a fucking thread and expect this game to be anything but hot garbage? Why is there a thread dedicated to a game that plays and looks like putrid shit? Because some sad fuck is playing with 'his waifu'. Do I expect someone with coomerbrain to make objective evaluations on good video games? To understand why games are good? To do research on their own and play some goddamn video games? Ofc not, they're too busy jerking off to their waifu.
>old news, but/leftypol/ are credited in a Friday Night Funkin' mod because they adapted Alunya in the crowd for their mod.
https://arch.b4k.co/vg/thread/359336386/#359359782haha this is great
>>16693>clonebeing part of the same genre isn't cloning
>elseIf someone is expecting realistic physics in a karting game, it's silly. You're not supposed to care about oversteer. You're not supposed to bounce around or lose traction when you land. Realism was intentionally, blatantly never a focus of the karting genre.
What does 'wonky' even mean? At least the post above that had some concrete complains about the unrealistic smoothness.
>>16691>But no, gotta coom. Why yes sir I do masturbate to Tux! Hot! I don't enjoy the gameplay at all but Xue makes me cum whenever she wins!
>>16727>good>badthere's your problem. >>>/v/
>>16729Add Xonotic and Mindustry?
>>16729it’s because they just make generic clones for people that apparently know enough about FOSS but not enough about piracy or compatibility layers, which is a really weird demographic
no one ever tries anything new because the only ones that do that are at capitalist firms making “proprietary” stuff to pay the bills
>16796It's kind of unfair to call me out on the simplification of earlier in depth critique I am referring to by those words. If that's not your intention then you're being too vague for me to grasp it. Please elaborate. Unless you're just being a hypocrite who neither can take criticism or see your own hypocrisy.
>>16729Software has this problem too. To simply assume something is better just because it's foss is wrong. LibreOffice still is missing some much desired features from MS Office. The best phone reader apps are paid apps.
I guess I don't see the point of FOSS games if they suck. You can already pirate most games so I get no extra benefit out of them being FOSS. TuxKart is just a garbage bin shovelware stank and not even a fun type of jank. Right up there with FilthyFrank Kart and Touhou Kart. There's, I dare proclaim without doing any counting, 100s of kart games. And I question the intelligence of FOSS-folks if they can't understand TuxKart is garbage.
Hot opinion: Kirby Kart is also kinda garbage.
>>16799>that apparently know enough *care enough
Big difference. It's not just about being gratis.
>>24559Yeah yeah, same with a couple of the updates like Konqi.
The cat-in-a-cart add-on (Lynx?) and Dashie at top-tier too.
>>16803>Software has this problem too. To simply assume something is better just because it's foss is wrong. LibreOffice still is missing some much desired features from MS Office. The best phone reader apps are paid apps. You don't know what a bad FLOSS app is. Feature disparity is one thing. Buggy, unstable mess with barely anything working is another. With good libre software you either realize that those "features" are just bloat you'll never gonna use or you write a feature request. And FLOSS is better not because it's packed with unique features that set it apart but because it's easy (and legal) to mod, has no spyware or DRM, is easier to audit for bugs and security holes and doesn't entrench you in corpos' walled gardens. Piracy is simply not enough to get all of these things, although it is a good painkiller.
>I guess I don't see the point of FOSS games if they suckSome FLOSS games suck. Some don't. But saying that they suck just because they're FLOSS is just not knowing what you're talking about. I've seen enough FLOSS games to judge and am a veteran hardcore gamer. Xonotic, SuperTuxKart, Doom 1-2, Sonic Robo Blast 2 and Xandria are great games with an insane modding potential. But I admit: some games like OpenArena look ugly and dated. Then again, so do some proprietary games, it's a weird comparasent.
>>32820>Characters can be added to Tuxkart, but I don't think many people want to race as horny Hillary ClintonJudging by Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart, anything can happen really.
By the way, why does nobody mention SRB2K in this thread? It needs more love. It's FLOSS too and has a bigger following, as does SRB2 itself. Because Sonic. Duh.
>>35269I read this as "skibidimaxxing".
The brainrot is fucking real.
