TLDR: Tigrayan survivors of the Tigray war were given prosthetics instead of actual treatment.
Long: after the end of the Ethiopian war in 2022, a bunch of Ethiopian and tigrayan (they’re technically the same people) survivors were given prosthetics in mass to remain useful to society instead of being given treatment like you see in Ukraine. Right now, there are a lot of amputees walking around with mechanical limbs over there and no one is talking about how absurd this looks like without context.
Imagine trying to explain to someone that somewhere in east Africa, hundreds of thousands of people were amputated and implanted with prosthetics to remain as useful drones to the Ethiopian government instead of dying or recovery normally. You’d probably be considered insane.
