Remind me again why these guys are considered worth listening to? All they do is complain all day and offer up no solutions ("Doesn't every leftist?" har har har)

Even if they offered solutions I don't think anyone would do anything anyways. Anything meaningful anyways

They occasionally post bangers

I listened to one of their podcasts and they were just reviewing some TV series.
I do t understand how they got so big.

Chapo is mid as far as podcasts go, but Red Scare is possibly one of the worst podcasts in the history of podcasts. Hours of two middle-aged Jewish women living in New York, rambling about inane bullshit with vocal fry.

They were pretty funny in their heyday, did some good reviews on Dinesh D'Souza's "documentaries" and Ben Shapiro's weird homoerotic thriller

Matt was the soul of the show, and the distant runner up was Amber and she's fucking unbearable now. They were the only ones that offered any sort of unique perspective American politics. The rest of them just endlessly spout "did you hear what that person did today??? That's just like when X did Y *laugh*" It's celebrity gossip.

I say that but I don't even think Matt was *that* great because he did actually read books, but nothing he added really had much substance. It could be like "treatler" which is a rephrasing of the One-Dimensional Man with added, condescending coastal-urbanite pretenses or it would be his weird relationship with religion where I know one dude who went full into tradcath larping because of his constant digs at Protestantism. Not that I have any problem with calling Americans retarded, because they are and they need to realize they're fucking retards to ever have the chance to change course.

>offer up no solutions

They stumped hard for Bernie as a platform for an actual leftist political vehicle as a desperate last-ditch move towards some form of a socialist trajectory and predictably, it died hard. Now it's just celebrity gossip and riding out the Patreon dollars by telling the DNC "I told you so." They can't give any solution because there is none to be had when there is less than nothing of a leftist movement in the United States. And don't pull that "actually communists aren't…" you're not smart, redditor.

Their movie reviews are really bad. I think they wanted to be like Zizek but they do not have that talent.

Matt was the only one with anything interesting to say and sadly his stroke took a lot out of him. The vlogs were the one thing that made the lockdowns bearable for me. The pod as a whole was refreshing in the age of Trump I and Hillary but that was a different time. Ultimately they were nothing more than The Daily Show for Online zoomer leftists.

Oof, I think this is the best way to sum them up. I’m still a fan but they’re definitely were a product of the first trump era and won’t be getting much better. They still pull good interviews though and there’s way worst slop out there.

matt was really smart and actually read books, but couldn't surpass his americanism and became a cynic and a nihilist

Why they were ever considered more radical than Bush era Jon Stewart is what's weird to me, not people finding them funny. The only thing to the left of Bernie they did was vaguely gesture to Lenin or Settlers once in a while, besides that they were just edgy blackpilled Democrats. And they hung out with all the Peter Thiel Red Scare people and with the MDE crew so even the edgy blackpilled Democrat part feels fake.

>The only thing to the left of Bernie they did was vaguely gesture to … Settlers once in a while
Every single person that normalized that ethno-nationalist anti-Marxist screed and the Fed that wrote it is unironically the cancer killing the American Left. We would be in a better position had we decided to move beyond the failures of the 60s and 70s instead of reviving one of the most retarded strands of Maoism imaginable.

Speaking of The Daily Show…

Adam Friedland was profiled in GQ the other day and this was the headline. There's a cultural shift going on. I think the vibe is very nihilistic and cynical too.

>This leaks over into the way he talks about his own work. He says comedians think they’re geniuses like Noam Chomsky or Pablo Picasso nowadays, when they’re actually just “content creators.” He speaks about his show’s aims broadly—to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good, to be a remedy for a political and digital landscape that has “broken people’s brains.” “This is the most demoralized I’ve ever seen people,” he says. “Everyone’s just bummed out. In the ’90s, dude, when I was growing up, we were like, ‘This is the best year ever. And next year’s gonna be the best year ever.’ It was incredible. People were buying Hummers.”

>You could mistake the way he talks about his show for apolitical, irony-poisoned pussyfooting, but it’s really just a desire not to be didactic or sanctimonious. Friedland’s friend Brace Belden, a host of the leftist podcast TrueAnon, whose previous claims to fame include a voluntary tour of duty with a Kurdish militia during the Syrian civil war, tells me over the phone that Friedland does indeed have political convictions. While some might call him “the rudest person on Earth,” Belden says warmly, he’s actually “a great role model for people who have grown up in a pretty tough society, with either genetic or intellectual disabilities, that see somebody who resembles them on TV.” Belden doesn’t think Friedland would travel overseas to join a revolutionary socialist militia the way he did, but that that’s mostly because Friedland is smarter. “Despite his demeanor and general attitude, he does believe in things.”
