After Israeli raid on Madleen aid ship, Tunisian-led land convoy pushes ahead to break Gaza blockade
The convoy is accompanied by volunteers from the Tunisian Red Crescent up to the Libyan border and has received backing from major civil society groups, including the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the National Bar Association, the Tunisian League for Human Rights, and the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES). "After hundreds of vigils and protests, it’s time for practical solidarity," said UGTT representative Samir Cheffi. "This is a moral obligation. The entire Arab world is under threat from displacement and expansionist policies."

Azerbaijan maintains oil sales to Israel despite Turkish backlash, says report
Baku recently removed oil sales to Israel from its customs records, after steady year-on-year increases in exports to the country which had reached over a million tons in 2024. According to the records, exports to Israel stopped in October amid the war on Gaza. However, Israeli sources told Haaretz that the sales have continued, and that the change in customs records may be due to the transactions being made to traders registered in third countries. "We received a promise from the Azerbaijanis that the strategic relations will continue, including in the energy sector, and we have nothing to worry about," one source said.

Police tear gas activists protesting the death in police custody of a Kenyan blogger
Albert Ojwang was found dead while in custody at the Central Police Station and police attributed his death to “hitting his head against the cell wall,” but activists have questioned the cause of death. Ojwang was arrested Friday in Homa Bay in western Kenya and driven 400 kilometers (248 miles) to Nairobi for what police said was publishing “false information” about a top police official on social media.

Protests burst onto streets of France after Israel hijacks aid flotilla
Hundreds of thousands took to the streets in nearly 200 rallies across France, with over 50,000 people in Paris alone. Protesters in the capital sat down in La Republique square at the end of the demonstration. Police ordered activists to disperse, but they remained defiant into the evening in the face of beatings. At around 10pm, a left wing MP announced the evacuation order against the protesters had been halted.

Public ownership of England’s water companies could cost close to zero, says thinktank
According to the report by Common Wealth, ministers could use a process known as special administration to take over a company like Thames Water and, rather than transfer it to another private company, keep it under permanent public ownership. Writing for the thinktank, Ewan McGaughey, professor of law at King’s College London, said that while a figure of £99bn was commonly cited as the cost of taking over the industry in England, this was based on an estimate from a thinktank paid for by water companies.

Meloni’s coalition taunts left from the beach as low voter turnout scuppers referendum
A majority of those who did participate backed the change, but referendums must draw at least 50 percent of registered voters under Italian law for their results to be valid. The June 8-9 ballot, which had also sought changes to rules on workers’ rights, saw a voter turnout of just 30.6 percent. The result is a victory — albeit an unconventional one — for Meloni, president of the right-wing Brothers of Italy party, which opposed the ballot and tactically aimed to depress turnout.

Brazil braces for Bolsonaro’s day in court as ex-president testifies over ‘coup plot’
Last week the former head of the air force, Brig Carlos de Almeida Baptista Júnior, gave damning evidence, telling the supreme court that at one point in 2022 the former head of the army, Gen Marco Antônio Freire Gomes, threatened to arrest Bolsonaro if he sought any kind of “institutional rupture”. But major question marks remain over whether, if convicted, Bolsonaro will ever actually serve time.

Panama Faces Unrest as American Forces Arrive for Canal Protection Exercises
U.S. troops began joint training exercises in Panama in June 2025, following a new agreement signed between Panama and the United States in April. The arrival of American military personnel comes as Panamanians protest the deal, which allows U.S. forces to use local air and naval bases for training and security operations aimed at protecting the Panama Canal.

Pentagon draws up rules on possible use of force by Marines deployed to LA protests
When troops are overseas, how they can respond to threats is outlined by the rules of engagement. At home, they are guided by standing rules for the use of force, which have to be set and agreed to by Northern Command, and then each Marine should receive a card explaining what they can and cannot do, another U.S. official said. For example, warning shots would be prohibited, according to use-of-force draft documents viewed by The Associated Press. Marines are directed to deescalate a situation whenever possible but also are authorized to act in self-defense, the documents say.

California City Cancels 'Divisive' ICE Contract Amid Los Angeles Protests
Citing a need to protect "community trust," the city of Glendale, California announced Sunday it was terminating its contract with immigration officials and would no longer detain immigrants in a local jail. The decision was announced as Los Angeles, which borders Glendale, erupted in protests over raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which said Saturday that it had arrested 118 immigrants.

‘Kidnapped’: families and lawyers desperate to contact LA workers arrested in Ice raids
The raids in the fashion district were followed by enforcement actions in the nearby city of Paramount, where federal agents cuffed and detained laborers at a Home Depot. Agents were also spotted outside a donut shop in nearby Compton, and around schools. Some of the families of those detained gathered outside Ambiance on Monday, demanding the release of their loved ones. Some, like Jacob, were the sole breadwinners in their families. Others, like José Ortiz, had worked in LA’s garment district for years – Ortiz had been with Ambiance for 18 years. “He was always here. He was a loyal worker,” his daughter Saraí Ortiz said. “He is someone who gave his life to this community and to his work.”

NYC Mayor Adams pushes controversial antisemitism definition as issue dominates mayoral election
"Mayor Adams' executive order, and the bill currently making its way through the state legislature, create the pretext for New York City and State to inflict punitive measures against New Yorkers speaking out and organizing against Israeli state violence – whether rallying in the streets, speaking out on social media, or organizing neighbors," she said. "It does nothing to address anti-Jewish bigotry, discrimination, or hate violence. Rather, it makes Jews the face of state repression."

Louisiana lawmakers reject adding exceptions for some rape cases to abortion ban
For the third consecutive year, Louisiana lawmakers rejected a bill that would have allowed young victims of rape to get an abortion. In an emotional and religious-laced legislative committee meeting on Tuesday legislators objected to adding rape, in cases where the girl is under the age of 17 and impregnated as a result of the sexual offense, to the narrow list of exceptions for one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.

Communist Workers’ Platform USA: Statement on the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles
In a statement on the current violent clashes in Los Angeles, the Communist Workers’ Platform USA (CWPUSA) stresses out: Driven by deep convictions on the safety of their fellow working class members, hundreds of protestors made the courageous decision to directly confront ICE agents. ICE has been a weapon of terror wielded by the ruling class against the workers of this country. Brutalizing migrant workers and breaking up families, Democratic and Republican governments alike have set these dogs on migrant workers. The anger of large sectors of the population with the policies of different managers of capital is growing. The second Trump administration has ratcheted up ICE raids nationwide since taking office in January. In service of their capitalist masters, they have enthusiastically enacted their directives to detain and deport migrant workers by the thousands. Workers of this country are disgusted by these terroristic measures. Pushed to action as they were in the 2006-2007 protests to defeat the “Sensenbrenner Bill”, thousands have taken the initiative to resist ICE raids in Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis, and Chicago by blocking ICE agents, obstructing their vehicles, surrounding agents en masse and other tactics. In response, police and state forces have made indiscriminate arrests, launched tear gas, and even deployed the National Guard. The fabricated claims and pretexts by Trump, about looting and gang members, are without evidence. The real targets have been workers: seamstresses, construction roofers, and others. This not only exposes the anti-migrant character of these attacks, but also their anti-worker agenda, made clearer by the arrest of union leader David Huerta.

The world turned upside down – a system in crisis
Momentous events are transforming the world as we know it. With Trump causing political and economic upheaval globally, the pent-up contradictions of nearly two decades of capitalist crisis and stagnation are reaching a fever pitch. From the genocide in Gaza to the West’s defeat in Ukraine, and from rising tariffs to ballooning world debt, epoch-defining developments are shaking the consciousness of billions. To assess this situation, the Revolutionary Communist International (RCI) will convene its first-ever World Congress in Italy just eight weeks from now. There, delegates and visitors will engage in in-depth discussions on this draft of our World Perspectives document, approved by our International Executive Committee. To navigate the twists and turns of the world situation, a clear understanding of the current period is essential – without it, a revolutionary organisation is like a ship without a compass. Over the past two years, the RCI has grown exponentially. We are now present in 70 countries worldwide. The World Congress will mark a crucial step in preparing our International for the titanic shocks, class struggles, and revolutionary upheavals on the horizon. We are living through a period of sharp turns and sudden changes in the world situation. The election of Donald Trump as the president of the United States and his policies have introduced enormous instability into world politics, the world economy and relations between the powers. Trump has not caused this turmoil, which is the result of the crisis of capitalism, but his actions have enormously accelerated the process. Contradictions which had been building up under the surface for a long time have suddenly burst into the open, upsetting the whole situation. The so-called liberal world order, which had existed for decades, is now collapsing in front of our very eyes. In analysing the world situation we need to start with the fundamentals. Capitalism is a system that has long outlived its historical role. In its epoch of decay it produces wars, crises and environmental destruction, which in the long run threatens the very existence of life on the planet. The purpose of this document is to outline the main features of this crisis and to stress the need to build a revolutionary organisation which can overthrow it, the only way to guarantee a future for humanity. In the final analysis, the inability of the capitalist system to develop the productive forces is the cause of the crisis. The economy is hemmed in by the limits of the nation state and the private ownership of the means of production. For decades the capitalists have been using various methods to try to overcome these limitations: increasing liquidity, developing world trade, etc. All of these measures are now turning into their opposite.

[Proletarios Hartos de Serlo] [Self-]critical reflections on revolutionary defeatism today
We decided to publish this unpublished text for two reasons. 1) Because the Action Week in Prague and its mailing list, to which we first sent it two months ago (last weeks of May 2024) are already behind us. And 2) because it received a couple of critical comments from comrades in other regions with their respective response from us via correspondence. That is to say, it generated an internationalist debate (still ongoing) on revolutionary defeatism around Palestine and Ukraine, which we hope will help to revolutionary proletarians everywhere today and, in turn, will bring other contributions. It should be added that, being an ongoing debate, this is still semi-finished material. On the other hand, the slanders that, under the pretext of these critical reflections, were made against us by another pair of despicable individuals who are standard bearers of the communist left have no place within this debate, but we only mention them separately to differentiate and distance them from it. Because, just as we are in favor of the debate as a tool for clarification and advancement of revolutionary praxis, so we are against slander as a counterrevolutionary practice, whoever it comes from. Both are taking place in material conditions of existence and class struggles with more differences than continuities than those of a century ago, mainly due to the high degree of development of the productive/destructive forces of capitalism, the deepening of the real subsumption of labor to capital and the crisis of reproduction of the class relation, plus other non-economic factors that are important today (ecological, geographic, historical, political, national, ethnic, gender, etc.); a world-historical context of catastrophic crisis and capitalist counterrevolution; the world bourgeoisie in decline but on the offensive and increasingly genocidal (and ecocidal); the world proletariat increasingly numerous, young and educated but in precariousness and on the defensive, or rather, defeated, weakened, isolated, disorganized and confused as an antagonistic class; and, therefore, a need for defense and, at the same time, for a rethinking of proletarian internationalism and revolutionary defeatism against capitalist war and peace, on the part of its radical minorities. Revolutionary defense and rethinking without nostalgia for the past, without illusions and without sectarianism – unlike the communist left – so that it is not a sterile dogma or a “Don Quixotism”, but a position, a perspective and a practice with sufficient power to resist and overcome the relation of forces currently unfavorable to the world proletariat. Having clear that the latter will be the work of the dynamics and the historical evolution of its own current struggles and of no one else. * * * Without nostalgia for the past, without illusions and without sectarianism, we hope that our materials will be of some use for reflection, discussion and collective action for real proletarian internationalism and revolutionary defeatism, in the present and the future.
