>>2321578the reason why CHAZ and Occupy fizzled out was because they were co-opted by liberalism and also happened in very different contexts. during Occupy, the United States still had the image of being basically a just and functional liberal democracy (even though it has never really been one), and during the Floyd riots everything about the state of the world at the time was seen as a temporary lapse in normalcy that everyone expected would be restored. but at this point liberalism is basically dead and the Democrats are incapable of even pretending to be an opposition, much less effectively co-opt grassroots movements, and everything happening right now comes after the Biden administration was supposed to be a return to normalcy. we've had so much shit happen in such a short span of time before Trump 2.0 kicked everything into high gear that I think people have broadly actually been shocked into doing shit
whatever happens is likely to be repressed and to fail, but this is a necessary step for something more militant and organized to emerge out of the chaos. if we were in a set of conditions with a functional liberal democracy that was capable of strategically giving concessions to ease mass discontent, things would be different, but that's not the situation anymore
