As conflict with Iran escalates, hundreds of Israelis quietly flee by yacht to Europe
Facebook groups dedicated to sea departures have ballooned, with hundreds reportedly seeking a way out. With demand soaring, some yacht owners are offering spots for fees ranging between 2,500 and 6,000 shekels. Most vessels take no more than ten passengers per trip. The movement has spread beyond Herzliya. In Haifa and Ashkelon, small yacht owners have also begun running crossings. Israel's Population and Immigration Authority says it was unable to fully assess the scale of the exodus, but anecdotal evidence points to a growing phenomenon. While some travellers claim to be foreign nationals returning home, many are in fact Israeli citizens. A few openly admit they were fleeing the rising threat of Iranian missile strikes, though most refuse to speak on record.

Blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty | Israeli forces advance into new areas in Al-Quneitra and the number of devastated houses increases to 15
Moreover, Israeli forces devastated more five houses in Al-Hemaydiyah village under the pretext that “those houses were near an Israeli military base,” bringing the number of houses devastated by Israeli forces since morning to 15. Those practices have triggered a state of anger among residents who sent district calls to the Syrian government which has taken no action regarding the frequent violations by Israeli forces. A few hours ago, SOHR sources repotted that members of an Israeli military patrol devastated ten civilian houses in Al-Hemaydiyah village under the pretext that “those houses were near an Israeli military base,” as well as arresting two civilians.

Egypt's secret police abduct and ‘brutally beat’ three Global March to Gaza's organisers
The group, Global March to Gaza, had hoped to bring thousands of people from across the world to march peacefully from the Egyptian capital of Cairo to Rafah, just across the country’s border with Palestine, last weekend, but were met with state repression. Hundreds of people hoping to break Israel’s illegal blockade of humanitarian aid into Gaza were detained, deported and arrested upon arrival into Cairo last week, forcing Global March to Gaza’s organisers to abandon the march.

26,000 Cádiz metalworkers set to strike in Spain
On June 18 and 19, over 26,000 metalworkers in the province of Cádiz are on strike. The walkout, called by Workers Commissions (CCOO) and the General Union of Workers (UGT), is the latest expression of the explosive anger building up in Spain’s industrial working class. It is part of a broader strike wave as workers fight to claw back wages gutted through years of below inflation pay, soaring housing costs, and rising food prices.

Portuguese police arrest six linked to armed far-right group
The detainees are believed to belong to the so-called Lusitanian Armillary Movement (MAL), which sought to establish itself as a political movement supported by an armed militia, according to a police statement. They are suspected of crimes related to terrorist groups and activities, discrimination and incitement to hatred and violence and possession of prohibited weapons, police said. Authorities seized several explosives, firearms — some built with 3D printers — and rounds of ammunition and knives in the operation, police said in a statement.

Moderate wage hike won’t affect employment, prices — study
While a 31% increase in Metro Manila’s minimum wage may seem bold by today’s standards, it’s far from unprecedented. The study cites the last legislated wage hike in 1989, which was even higher at 40 percent, and notes that the economy absorbed it without causing a crisis. This emphasizes the study’s broader point: a fair wage hike helps restore workers’ rightful share in national growth. “Workers have not shared in the fruits of their labor,” the study points out, with real wages remaining largely stagnant despite steady productivity growth since 2001. It adds that any inflationary effects of higher wage growth could be offset by rising productivity.

Govt employees at Secretariat to keep protesting until ordinance withdrawn
The draft of the controversial ordinance was approved at a meeting of the Advisory Council on May 22. It includes provisions allowing dismissal of government employees for four types of disciplinary offences without a formal departmental inquiry, requiring only a show-cause notice. The ordinance was promulgated on May 25, sparking widespread backlash among public servants. Government employees have condemned the ordinance as regressive and a ‘black law’. Since May 24, they have been staging protest marches, work abstentions, and sit-ins within the Secretariat. Memorandums have also been submitted to several advisers demanding its repeal.

Senate Dems fracture as Trump considers Iran strike
The caucus is fractured over the quickly unfolding situation, with just a handful blaring the alarm while the party's leadership — at least for now — watches and waits, Just a few Senate Democrats have publicly backed Sen. Tim Kaine's (D-Va.) resolution to reassert Congress' authority over war powers. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer(D-N.Y.) decided against sponsoring a separate bill that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) introduced this week barring funding for military force against Iran. Schumer sponsored the same legislation in 2020. And in the 18-plus hours since Trump posted that everyone should evacuate Tehran, Schumer has not made a public statement on the conflict.

Republicans move to eliminate payment pauses for struggling student loan borrowers
GOP lawmakers are moving in their “big, beautiful bill” to nix payment pauses for student loan borrowers who’ve lost their job or experienced other financial hardship. “I’m concerned this is going to lead more people to default on their student loans when they encounter a job loss, surprise medical expense, or other economic hardship,” said Abby Shafroth, director of the National Consumer Law Center’s Student Loan Borrower Assistance Project.

Trump And Gabbard United On Iran Strategy, Dismiss Media Misrepresentation
On Tuesday, Gabbard defended herself against accusations that she and the President diverged on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, telling reporters, “We are on the same page.” The former congresswoman insisted that her March testimony—where she said Iran had not resumed its nuclear weapons program—was consistent with Trump’s claim this week that Iran is “very close” to acquiring a nuclear weapon.

US judge declares Trump’s cuts to NIH grants ‘illegal’
A Massachusetts federal judge has declared that cuts to National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants made by the administration of US President Donald Trump are “illegal” and “void,” and ordered that many of the grants be restored. In a ruling issued on Monday, Judge William Young vacated the terminations that began in late February and said the NIH violated federal law by arbitrarily cancelling more than $1bn in research grants because of their perceived connection to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

US FDA to shorten review time for drug developers under new voucher program
The U.S. FDA is launching a program under which its commissioner can issue vouchers to companies he finds are aligned with national priorities to shorten their review time for a drug application to one to two months from the typical timeline of about 10-12 months. The regulator said on Tuesday that the commissioner would determine whether a company aligns with health priorities such as delivering innovative medicines, addressing a health crisis or unmet public health needs, and increasing domestic drug manufacturing.

California could roll back gains made toward public access to police records
Five years after a landmark bill reversed three decades of legislation and court decisions that built a wall around internal misconduct records in the Golden State, a proposed bill authored by Democratic assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco – with the backing of the Los Angeles sheriff’s department and much of California’s police and prosecutors’ unions – could wall off all personnel files for officers deemed to be working in an “undercover” capacity.

NYC comptroller, mayoral candidate detained by ICE
While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE," said Dora Pekec, Lander's campaign spokesperson. In a video, Lander is pulled and pushed down a hallway by several men, many of whom are wearing masks and hats. The comptroller can be heard asking for a judicial warrant. "You don't have the authority to arrest U.S. citizens," he says as he appears to be handcuffed. He adds,"I'm not obstructing; I'm standing right here in the hallway." ICE and the Deparment of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

California bill proposes misdemeanor for officers who cover their face on duty
The bill would require all law enforcement officials to show their faces and be identifiable by their uniform, which should carry their name or other identifier. It would not apply to the national guard or other troops and it exempts Swat teams and officers responding to natural disasters. Scott Wiener, a Democratic state senator representing San Francisco, and Jesse Arreguin, a Democratic state senator representing Berkeley and Oakland, said the proposal seeks to boost transparency and public trust in law enforcement.

Tudeh Party of Iran — Communist Party of Israel: Stop the Killing! End the War Now
The Tudeh Party of Iran and the Communist Party of Israel strongly condemn the continuous Israeli aggression in the region, and its latest attack on Iran which is in direct violation of international law. We demand an immediate halt to all military action resulting in significant civilian casualties on both sides. The crimes committed by the right wing reactionary government of Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza and the West bank with the support of US Imperialism, the UK and allies in the EU has not only resulted in more than 55,000 Palestinians losing their lives and over18,000 children being killed but has also given the Israeli government a green light for further aggression against countries of the region, with the aim of redrawing the map of the Middle East in accordance with the strategic goals of US imperialism. This is a government whose leaders have rightly been accused of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court. While we are witnessing war and destruction in Iran and Israel, we also warn against the exploitation of the situation to intensify and continue the inhumane suffering and oppression of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. We call upon the international community to take real and concrete actions to prevent further disaster to the Palestinian people and to the peoples of the region.

The grooming gangs scandal is about class and gender, not religion and race
MUCH of the left may prefer to ignore the “grooming gangs” scandal. That would be a mistake. Socialists should have something to say about all the major issues agitating public opinion, as this question undoubtedly is. Moreover, now Labour has capitulated to popular pressure and established a national inquiry into the crisis, we can be sure that it will be in the headlines for years to come. Silence cedes the ground to those who want to use the crimes exposed to advance a far-right, racist agenda. The widespread concern over child sexual exploitation is entirely understandable. Thousands of girls have been subjected to appalling abuse, which the authorities showed too little interest in stopping. Socialists should be pointing out first of all that this is a class question, a point entirely ignored by the race-baiters. On the evidence available, the great majority of victims appear to come from working-class communities and to have suffered high levels of material deprivation. These are the marginalised casualties of capitalist crisis, living in towns and cities devastated by the closure of industries, living in poverty and vulnerable to all forms of social pathology. All of this has been compounded by austerity and the destruction of welfare provision and social services.

Let’s Get Child Labor Off Our Dinner Plates
When deciding what to make for dinner, many of us think about how to balance making something affordable, delicious, and healthy. And we might consider ethical questions, like whether our food is locally sourced, our meat is humanely raised, or our meals have a low climate impact.. We probably don’t wonder whether child labor is involved. But unfortunately, that’s increasingly likely. In recent years, federal investigations have uncovered children working in dangerous conditions to create the food we eat. Tyson, Perdue, Cargill, and JBS have all been found to have children working in slaughterhouses. Many of these children are immigrants who are unlikely to speak up when they’re in danger. They need these jobs to survive, but the jobs put their lives at risk. Children all over the country, some as young as 10, are working in agriculture, restaurants, and meatpacking. There are an estimated 300,000-500,000 children working in agriculture alone. Their jobs can be dangerous — kids often go to school with burns from restaurant stoves or cleaning chemicals. In the last two years, at least three children have died on the job. Fueling this rise are politicians attempting to roll back child labor restrictions. They insist that children will benefit from these “opportunities to work.”
