Communists killed my grandfather in prison and basically ruined my grandmother, father and aunt's lives because there was nobody left to support them so they were left struggling and homeless and had to rely on relatives to survive. They got paid reparations after the end of communism because it seems he died of brutal beating in prison and his corpse was never found.
