Israeli attacks on Palestine churches part of campaign to 'eradicate Christian presence’
Since October 2023, new illegal outposts have been established in Jericho, which the committee says poses a “direct threat to its historic and sacred character and forming part of a broader plan to erase Palestine’s Christian and historical identity”. “These measures are inseparable from the wider occupation strategy to alter the identity of Jerusalem, erase its religious and cultural character, and ultimately eliminate the Palestinian presence in the city,” Ramzi Khouri, PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, said in the letter.

Malnourished Palestinian woman dies in Italy after Gaza evacuation
According to the University hospital of Pisa she had a “very complex clinical picture” and was “in a profound state of organic wasting”, doctors said in a statement. On Friday, after undergoing tests and starting treatment, she had a sudden respiratory crisis and cardiac arrest, and died. The hospital did not elaborate on her condition, but Italian news agencies reporting health facility sources said that she was suffering from severe malnutrition. More than 180 children and young people from Gaza have been brought to Italy since the war began between Israel and Hamas.

Tensions soar in Serbia as angry protesters clash with police, set fire to party offices
Wearing scarves over their faces and chanting slogans against President Aleksandar Vucic, a group of young men threw flares at his Serbian Progressive Party offices in Valjevo, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the capital Belgrade. They set fire to the party’s offices before clashing with riot police in a downtown area. Police threw multiple rounds of tear gas and charged at the demonstrators who hurled bottles, rocks and flares at them. Similar clashes also erupted on Saturday evening in the northern city of Novi Sad and in Belgrade, with police directing tear gas at protesters while battling the protesters who set garbage containers on fire.

EU leaders back Trump plan for trilateral talks after Putin summit
Putin, for his part, refused to answer questions from international media and continued to claim his all-out assault on Ukraine and efforts to capture territory are driven by “fundamental threats to our security.” Despite not making any public concessions, he hinted an “agreement” had been struck with Trump that could “help bring us closer to that goal and will pave the path towards peace in Ukraine.”

Malema dismisses National Dialogue as waste of state resources
“It really did not serve any purpose. If anything, it was saving the egos of certain people, and therefore it was a waste of money. NGOs and people who participated in that preparations suggested that it must be postponed, because they are not ready only to go and embarrass themselves the way they did. We don’t support this convention. We don’t support the national dialogue. We know the demands of our people. We cannot spend R700 million of the money that we don’t have.”

Pakistan: Textile Workers Demand Better Wages, Labour Rights
In Faisalabad, led by Haqooq-e-Khalq Party (HKP) and other unions, hundreds of workers successfully carried out a large strike on August 3 and have been regularly organizing large-scale protest gatherings to push for their demands. The workers’ demands include a better minimum wage, the proper implementation of labor and minimum wage laws, and the protection of other workers’ rights. Before Faisalabad, textile workers in Gujranwala observed a strike in support of similar demands, which lasted for more than a fortnight. The strike was lifted after the administration and the factory management agreed to all the demands.

Government Shuts Down Air Canada Strike That Grounded Hundreds of Flights
In an unsigned email, Air Canada, which said that it had locked out the striking workers early Saturday, declined to comment on the minister’s decision, adding that it was too early to say how long it would take to get its planes flying. Hundreds of striking flight attendants outside Toronto Pearson International Airport reacted swiftly and angrily, chanting, “Shame on you, Patty Hajdu,” and “We won’t stop,” as passing motorists honked their horns in solidarity.

Bolivian Government Denounces Right-Wing “Dirty War” Prior to General Elections
The Government of Bolivia rejected accusations by the Alianza Unidad party about an alleged plan to link them with electoral fraud. The opposition coalition, led by Samuel Doria Medina, declared that the government of Luis Arce would be trying to accuse them of electoral fraud after the elections, denouncing a campaign of “dirty war” to tarnish the process. In this regard, the Government described the statements as “irresponsible” and called on all political formations that will participate in the elections to act responsibly in their declarations, noting that “What explains this position of the Unity Alliance is the dirty war between the right-wing parties.”

Tensions rise in Ecuador as President Noboa protests against the Constitutional Court
Tensions between Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa and the Constitutional Court (CC) are increasing with each passing day. On August 12, the right-wing leader led a mobilization, alongside his ministers and assembly members, to criticize the recent actions of the CC, which he has described as an “obstacle” to achieving peace. The CC has recently annulled several articles of the latest laws passed by the ruling party. According to the highest body responsible for ensuring the correct application of the Constitution of the Republic, these articles violate fundamental principles and rights enshrined in the Constitution and have therefore been suspended, although the rest of the laws remain in force.

US suspends visas for Gaza residents after right-wing social media storm
The United States has announced that it is halting all visitor visas for people from Gaza pending a “a full and thorough” review, a day after social media posts about Palestinian refugees sparked furious reactions from right-wingers. The Department of State’s move on Saturday came a day after far-right activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer posted on X that Palestinians “who claim to be refugees from Gaza” entered the US via San Francisco and Houston this month.

States move to send hundreds of National Guard members to Washington
So far, National Guard members have played a limited role in law enforcement in D.C. and it’s unclear why additional troops are needed. They have been seen patrolling at landmarks like the National Mall and Union Station and assisting with crowd control. A protest against Trump’s intervention drew scores to Dupont Circle on Saturday before a march to the White House, about 1.5 miles away. Demonstrators assembled behind a banner that said, “No fascist takeover of D.C.,” and some in the crowd held signs saying, “No military occupation.”

Farmers in US midwest squeezed by Trump tariffs and climate crisis
With the 2025 harvest of corn and soybeans approaching – America’s biggest two crops and the linchpins of agriculture – crop growers are facing down the gauntlet. Climatic swings, rocketing operating costs and low international demand, caused, in large part, by government policy in the shape of tariffs, has created the perfect storm.

Is This the End of MAS?
As Bolivia celebrated its two hundredth year of independence last week, the mood on the streets and in the countryside was far from jubilant. National elections take place on Sunday, and Bolivia is confronting a spiraling economic crisis and the total collapse of the left-wing Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) that has been in power for the past two decades. It looks more than likely that the right wing will win power, with the latest polls putting far-right Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga in the lead at 24.5 percent and center-right Samuel Doria Medina in a close second at 23.6 percent. Bolivia now stands on the brink of a new historic cycle without the MAS in power.

CP of the Workers of Spain, On the new wave of wildfires
On the new wave of wildfires razing thousands of hectares in several Autonomous Communities, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain wants first to convey its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased people as well as its full support and solidarity with both the displaced people and the workers and volunteers that are carrying out extinction works under very harsh conditions. The PCTE considers that the key element easing the ferociousness of the current wildfires is the lack of planning and the absolute neglection of the different administrations. Even though they presume to pursue “green policies”, they continue to let the wilderness burn every year while they maintain miserable and precarious labor conditions for those who fight the wildfires.

V. I. Lenin: Where to Begin?
In recent years the question of “what is to be done” has confronted Russian Social-Democrats with particular insistence. It is not a question of what path we must choose (as was the case in the late eighties and early nineties), but of what practical steps we must take upon the known path and how they shall be taken. It is a question of a system and plan of practical work. And it must be admitted that we have not yet solved this question of the character and the methods of struggle, fundamental for a party of practical activity, that it still gives rise to serious differences of opinion which reveal a deplorable ideological instability and vacillation. On the one hand, the “Economist” trend, far from being dead, is endeavouring to clip and narrow the work of political organisation and agitation. On the other, unprincipled eclecticism is again rearing its head, aping every new “trend”, and is incapable of distinguishing immediate demands from the main tasks and permanent needs of the movement as a whole. This trend, as we know, has ensconced itself in Rabocheye Dyelo.[3] This journal’s latest statement of “programme”, a bombastic article under the bombastic title “A Historic Turn” (“Listok” Rabochevo Dyela, No. 6[4]), bears out with special emphasis the characterisation we have given. Only yesterday there was a flirtation with “Economism”, a fury over the resolute condemnation of Rabochaya Mysl,[5] and Plekhanov’s presentation of the question of the struggle against autocracy was being toned down. But today Liebknecht’s words are being quoted: “If the circumstances change within twenty-four hours, then tactics must be changed within twenty-four hours.” There is talk of a “strong fighting organisation for direct attack, for storming, the autocracy; of “broad revolutionary political agitation among the masses” (how energetic we are now—both revolutionary and political!); of “ceaseless calls for street protests”; of “street demonstrations of a pronounced [sic!] political character”; and so on, and so forth. We might perhaps declare ourselves happy at Rabocheye Dyelo’s quick grasp of the programme we put forward in the first issue of Iskra,[6] calling for the formation of a strong well-organised party, whose aim is not only to win isolated concessions but to storm the fortress of the autocracy itself; but the lack of any set point of view in these individuals can only dampen our happiness. >NPA Carries Out Successful Attack On AFP Camp In Quezon Province
This and other reports seem to indicate that the self-criticism of the CPP-NPA carried out as part of the third rectification wasn't hollow words. They are taking a more agressive stance and pushing back against the encirclement of the neo-colonial regime and their backers. Very encouraging.
