what does /leftypol/ think of venezuela? are they upholding trve socialism? sorry if the question is kinda vague/open-ended but i'm genuinely curious since most opinions of venezuela i hear are from anti-maduro/chavez venezuelan immigrants

They haven’t exactly abolished the commodity form, a lot of M5R/PSUV sucess was Hugo Chavez being extremely charismatic and knowing what parts of the military to cleanse after the 2002 coup attempt in combination with popular sectors. Using the oil in both solidaristic ways at home and abroad is certainly good. When I visited Haiti a decade ago the locals told me about how Chavez had saved the country and thr economy with Petrocaribe. The issue is they were never able to break the dependency on oil as they inherited 80 years of being a single commodity economy. They were able to change the constitution and capture Gramscian hegemony but the economic situation has gotten worse, mostly due to US siege and sanctions that are also applied to their Pan Latin American partners in Cuba and Nicaragua.

Also they very much deserve credit foe outlasting all the other pink tide governments and movements so far

It's fairly cooked tbh

it's a country ran by corrupt socdems that has degenerated into another caudillo state, it's a shame but it's what happens when socdems get into power

"Degeneration" is probably the right word. Part of the problem is that the main opposition leader in the last election was a neoliberal freak, but Maduro has taken a bizarre turn.

From what I've read from people who were Chavez-adjacent in the 2000s, the Chavista coalition was based on an alliance of unions, the military, left-wing social movements, and informal/slum organizations called colectivos. Now all that's left is the military and their preferred colectivos. Most of the left social movements left a long time ago. Maduro has also really hammed up playing to Evangelical Christians (this is quite strange) that used to support the old opposition while devolving social functions to them and giving them gibs.

Also I have to post pics of Rafael Lacava, the governor of Carbobo, because he has a whole Dracula gimmick.

Left socdems trapped in their own laberinth.
The economy is pegged to a commodity whose primer market is the US, their money is pegged to the dollar and played like a fiddle by the speculators, it has been sanctioned to hell and back and yet they stand somehow and even help the Cubans.
I remember the time where trots called for a new revolution but their government instead opted for a soft(?) dollarization (in the private sector) and diversification (from Turkey to China, all of them are welcomed) while supporting the coops and other enterprises.
It is a hodgepodge, a hodgepodge with a ref flag that spits to Amerikkka bimonthly

Corrupt socdem government wearing the skin of Chavismo and using the USAno threat as an excuse to veer further right.
Still, light-years better than the US backed opposition. That nonetheless they will never truly tackle because being frenemies with the USA has become a pillar to remain in government.

Every veneco scum should be demoralized to death, I stand with Maduro.

I don’t think it upholds socialism, it was socialist under Hugo Chavez but under Maduro it no longer is, it does have tons of state ownership over certain industries but it’s not as socialist as Cuba is, however this doesn’t mean that I support the planed invasion or the embargoes.

Mixed feelings. On one hand, there's some pretty based shit such as their communal systems
https://participedia.net/method/venezuelan-communal-councils

https://www.mutualaid.coop/today/venezuelan-communes/

With that being said, it still exists as a latin american social-democratic entity, which although puts it leagues beyond american neo-liberal capitalism, still operates on elements of bourgoise governance.

Also what these anons have said.

I wouldn't call it socialist but could plausibly be called a dictatorship of the proletariat or engaging in some form of socialist construction.

>>2462751
Also this.
Though their repression of their communist party is somewhat questionable.

>>2461620
whatever you wanna say about them, they solved the counterrevolution question. they showed that you need to purge the army and have total control over the military to maintain a revolution

>>2462755
Now will the empire breathing their necks the people that I always see in the cameras are PCV people and their rooster
>>2462756
The USSR had this always. The problem is how to stop the top from throwing the toilet to the streets

>>2462808
Isn’t that what the colectivos are supposed to do? Hold the party accountable?

yeah i think they are even more so than something like bolivia.

>opinion
