What material conditions explain the rise of anti-intellectualism, not just on the right but also on the left?

I’m alarmed by all the posts and comments I see on social media — as well as in real life — which denigrate intelligence. I would expect this from the right, given that right-wingers and fascists despise smart people and make a whole show of privileging emotion over intelligent investigation, but it’s been showing up heavily on the left as well.

For instance, I’ve seen “leftists” say things like: “compassion is more important than intelligence, I’d rather be stupid and compassionate than smart and mean” (which conveniently neglects the fact that you can’t be compassionate without having intellect first). Or the usual: “I DON’T NEED THEORY, ALL I NEED IS FEELS” (which again, how do you understand the deeper meaning of your emotions without intellect?). This shit is getting so out-of-hand that I even see “leftists” glorifying metal retardation as something wholesome. Why? Since when did we become like the right?

Anyway, I’m curious as to know what exactly birthed this. Right-wingers hate intellectuals, professors, doctors, and whatnot. Leftists do not. Leftists always prioritize education, critical thinking, creativity, the ability to grasp abstract concepts, and intelligence. What good is it to prop up stupidity as a virtue?

Sometimes people are retarded or crippled or sick or deaf or blind and can't do things other people can do. Maybe someday technology will be able to cure all of these disabilities and create a society with zero disabled people where everyone is equally able to do everything, but until that day comes (and it never will) we are going to have to learn to accept the fact that not everyone is equally able to do everything and we have to make a very important choice as a society as to whether or not we will accept and accomodate the cripples and retards or to let them starve and die in the streets.

Personally I think the sensible thing to do is accept this diversity of ability as a part of our nature, a human being is a living organism after all, it's not a machine designed according to some standard of perfection. When you see a tree growing in the woods you probably wouldn't think of it as something that needs to be refined or improved; it's an organic structure that automatically forms itself into whatever configuration is best adapted to its present circumstances, it's already as perfect as it can possibly be. Why would the rules be any different for a human? Do we have less dignity than trees?

To be honest, I think it’s extremely unfair to not use technology to cure disability, especially under communism where human potential and standard of living has increased exponentially for everyone else. Why should we keep these people as sacrificial lambs because they remind us of our virtues or whatever all while the average able-bodied or average/high intellect person is soaring? It’s like saying the poor should be kept poor so the rich can show off what “good people” they are by giving the poor charity.

The point I’m making is that it’s incredibly hard to find people who will care for intellectually disabled adults. During the pandemic, group home and nursing home workers were under more stress than you could imagine. A lot of them quit because they couldn’t handle it anymore. This isn’t an appeal to emotion by any means.
