UK: Corbyn seeks legal advice after 'unauthorised' membership email splits new party
Within hours, Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana, who co-founded the party with Corbyn in July, said more than 20,000 people had already joined as members, bringing in what could amount to more than £1 million a year in income. Corbyn responded with a statement on X, co-signed by five of the party's MPs, urging supporters to ignore the message and cancel any direct debits. "This morning, an unauthorised email was sent to all Your Party supporters with details of a supposed membership portal hosted in a new domain name. Legal advice is being taken. That email should be ignored by all supporters," he wrote.

German fears: Rising cost of living tops list of concerns
Germans continue to worry that due to higher prices for groceries, fuel and power, they no longer have enough money to make ends meet at the end of the month. Like last year, and for the 15th time in the survey's history, the fear of rising living costs tops the rankings; inflation remains the ultimate German bogeyman. Finances overall are causing many to have sleepless nights. Of the Germans' four biggest fears, another two are also about money: fear of tax increases, welfare cuts and unaffordable housing.

Turkey warns Cyprus’ Israeli air defense system could destabilize island
Turkish defense ministry officials expressed concerns over reports suggesting that an Israeli-made Barak MX integrated air defense system had been delivered to Cyprus. A driver bringing humanitarian aid from Jordan for Gaza opened fire and killed two Israeli military personnel at the Allenby Crossing into the West Bank on Thursday before being killed by security forces, authorities from both nations said. Bedouin families left homeless as Israel demolishes Negev village
A large contingent of Israeli police forces on Wednesday raided the unrecognised Palestinian Bedouin village of al-Sir in the Negev (Naqab) desert and destroyed al-Omrani neighbourhood, including 40 homes and other structures. Plumes of dark smoke rose over the village as residents, who had tried until the last moment to reach a compromise with the authorities, set fire to most of the homes using tyres. Hundreds of police officers - some riding dirt bikes, all-terrain vehicles and horses - stormed the neighbourhood, where residents had been relocated by the authorities in the 1950s from a nearby area.

Brazil's Congress fast-tracks amnesty bill that could include Bolsonaro
His sons and supporters have touted legislative amnesty as one of his political avenues to freedom, although the legality of such a move remains contentious. Two Supreme Court justices have already argued that any attempt to pardon those convicted of plotting a coup would be unconstitutional. In a procedural vote, lawmakers voted on Wednesday, by a margin of 311-163, for an amnesty bill - which has still not been defined - to bypass committee debates and go straight to a plenary vote.

Colombia ends forced eradication of coca after US urges “more aggressive action”
“If any political leader since [late presidential candidate Luis Carlos] Galan has fought against drug trafficking, it’s been me, at the cost of living in constant insecurity, facing assassination attempts, and enduring constant persecution against me and my family,” said the president. According to Petro, Trump decided to ignore the facts and instead listened to members of a “far-right ideological alliance” between “drug traffickers and Colombian politicians” with great influence in Florida. “They preferred this ideology over the truth,” said the president.

Maldives leader ratifies controversial law targeting journalists and media outlets
It also allows authorities to suspend media licenses until investigations are complete, file litigation seeking cancellation of media licenses, or even send police to stop broadcasts midway if they are seen to be violating the new law. Of the 93 members of Parliament, 60 government lawmakers voted for the bill after opposition members were evicted amid protests. The new law requires journalists to respect the nation’s constitution, Islam, national security, social values, and protect personal honor and human rights.

US military weighs recruiting campaign to honor Charlie Kirk, NBC reports
The campaign would be framed as a national call to service with the slogan to possibly be along the lines of "Charlie has awakened a generation of warriors,” NBC reported, citing two officials. The recruiting effort would utilize chapters of Kirk’s conservative student group Turning Point USA and universities across the U.S. as military recruitment centers, the officials told NBC. The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Federal workers urge Democrats to stand up to White House
Hundreds of federal workers across 60 agencies and departments are urging Congress to rein in the White House even if it means shutting down the government, in a letter sent Thursday afternoon. It's the broadest protest yet to emerge from inside the civil service — a sign of widespread discontent, anger and worry over the Trump administration's cuts to research, spending and the workforce. A shutdown would mean that many of these folks would go without pay, and those using their names are risking their jobs.

US probes people swept up in Trump Washington crackdown for benefits fraud
The department's inspector general's office is looking to see if the people have defrauded the Medicare, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs for low-income, elderly and disabled Americans, probing people ensnared by Trump's policing surge in Washington, D.C., for possible violations unrelated to the reason they were stopped by police.

Jury finds LA protester not guilty of assaulting border patrol agent
The not guilty verdict for Brayan Ramos-Brito is a major setback for the Donald Trump-appointed US attorney in southern California and for Gregory Bovino, a border patrol chief who has become a key figure in Trump’s immigration crackdown. The 29-year-old defendant, who is a US citizen, was facing a misdemeanor and was the first protester to go to trial since demonstrations against immigration raids erupted in LA earlier this summer.

Police cameras tracked one driver 526 times in four months, lawsuit says
Flock is relatively new to the automatic license plate readers (ALPR) market, but has become the largest provider of the technology in the country. Flock sells a subscription model to install and maintain ALPRs and give police, businesses and homeowners associations a constant stream of surveillance data. The lawsuit is specifically concerned with Norfolk’s ALPRs, finding that the company struck a $2.2 million deal with the city for the camera system through the end of 2027.

Harris says Buttigieg was her "first choice" for running mate
Buttigieg "would have been an ideal partner—if I were a straight white man," Harris wrote, according to the excerpt. "But we were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man," she continued. "Part of me wanted to say, Screw it, let's just do it. But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk." She added that she believed Buttigieg agreed with her assessment — "to our mutual sadness."

Britain in the 2010s – The lessons of Corbynism round one
Ten years ago, on 12 September 2015, Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party. This represented a political earthquake, which transformed the landscape of British politics forever. In fact, Corbyn’s surprise win was one of many such shocks in this period. One year earlier, the Yes campaign provoked panic within the British establishment by coming close to victory in the 2014 referendum for Scottish independence. And nine months later, in June 2016, the liberal elites’ worst nightmares were realised when the Leave camp narrowly won the vote over the UK’s membership of the European Union in the ‘Brexit’ referendum. In the space of a few years, Britain was turned upside down – going from being one of the most politically stable countries in the world, to one of the most unstable.

Speech by Professor Grover Furr to the Institute for the Critical Study of the Society (ICSS) of Oakland, California, on the subject "The Betrayal of the Communist Movement in the Soviet Union"
Until the collapse of the Soviet Union, communists had always believed that the only way a socialist state could be destroyed was by hostile forces from the outside. Now we know that this was tragically wrong. The Soviet Union was destroyed by betrayal from within. Uncovering the reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union is the most important question confronting Marxists, socialists, and communists today. This is the subject of my talk. I begin with the regime of Mikhail Gorbachev. By the time that Gorbachev came to power as First Secretary of the CPSU in 1985 he had already decided to put an end to socialism in the Soviet Union. Few people know this. So I begin by quoting an essay from the year 2000 by Aleksandr Yakovlev, Gorbachev’s closest collaborator. In 1985, immediately upon becoming First Secretary, Gorbachev chose Yakovlev to head the Propaganda Section of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Thereafter Yakovlev became a Secretary of the Central Committee, then member of the Politburo, then senior advisor to the President.

You can watch the video of the discussion here: https://youtu.be/RrvgOH0pGfc

Grover Furr is a great man theoretician, his blog post is useless idealist drivel for anyone already familiar with Yakolev and he's again doing this hyper fixation on Stalin did nothing wrong to the detriment of his thesis which is more something that I would expect from shitposters rather than serious people who want to do some history in a scientific way
