North Korea isn't willing to open up very much, so the only people who are willing to open up are people who have been exposed to the harsher places there and wanted to leave. If for example some Native Americans from tribal lands were to create a petition about their plight and their disappearing culture and how the US government does very little for their communities obviously the US government would try to help and ultimately, wouldn't put people in labor camps and cut off body parts or whatever like North Korea does. The point is that, like North Korean defectors, anyone can use Native Americans as propaganda against the US and they can do it for legitimate reasons but it's not for the right reason.

Some 16 year old kid who recently discovered Marx will have fun watching North Korean propaganda will think the US is some evil dicatorship that manipulates people to participate in consumer culture as a means of distracting them from the "truth". In that way, they're not that different from redditors talking about how they're so ready for the US to drop bombs on Kim Jong Un's evil army because they read an AMA or watched a North Korean documentary on "Human Rights".

In my opinion that North Korea is at a point where a) they can someday let US/NATO invade so they can point fingers and say "See?! You see what this bully does to me?" or b) they let China build up economically and ride their coattails while saying "see, we were right all along. These Westerners are arrogant, short termed people".

And if we were to go to war, I'd volunteer in a heartbeat to fight my way and free those prison camps. But we're not at war, so you can't force this stuff. You have to work diplomatically and patiently, muddling your way through all the truths and lies of the situation. Because people are suffering in those prison camps and North Korea isn't exactly a stable country.
