The first step is understanding why this is. And it's in large part because of socialism representing a certain kind of secularized Christianity
https://blackagendareport.com/western-marxism-loves-purity-and-martyrdom-not-real-revolution Second is the lack of viewing 'communism' in existentialist terms. If you already operate on the basis that you have no power and no freedom at all (as a worker), and that "real communism" is a spontaneous rapture scheduled to happen at a yet unknown point sometime in the future. Then it becomes both an excuse and reason for inaction.
Consider for example the following thought experiment: Imagine a world with only a few dozen inhabitants, all living in a single community. What technologies they have or do not have access to doesn't matter. But imagine that they're all living without wage labor, without capital, and labor is performed based on need and desire not profit. And everyone feels they choose to live like this, and no one feels they're living inauthentically or are forced to do anything they consider to be unethical.
Then ask yourself: Would this be (actually existing) communism?
Then imagine the same community, but instead on Earth. Existing either in isolation or the periphery of capitalist civilization, or perhaps even hidden in plain sight. Would this still be communism? Or are they're just a bunch of lumpen anarkiddie utopian idealist lib adventurists?
