As an avid listener of metal, something that frustrates me is the prevalence of chuds and reactionaries in metal (especially black metal). The visibility of guys like Varg and Famine of Peste Noire infamy has colored the public perception of extreme metal as being the domain of edgelord fascists. What are some metal groups that could be said to be socialist, anarchist, or leftist in some manner?

To start things off, I'd highly recommend the Panopticon album "Kentucky," which is a BM album about the state's history with labor organizing among coal miners, as well as the coal industry's destruction of the state's natural beauty. It's not a perfect album by any means but the way it mixes BM with bluegrass is cool, plus it has an incredibly redpilled message.

There exists lefty music threads and other music threads, delete this one and stop being a fag by making new OPs for no reason

Yeah, you know what a highly underused board needs? MORE GENERALS

Spectral Lore
>antifascist Med Chad from Greece

>Canadian atmospheric black metal, anarchist and pro-indigenous rights (Wetsuweten, anybody?)

Wolves in the Throne Room
>Cascadian atmospheric environmentalist black metal, hipster approved

>anarchist blackened bluegrassy goodness (USA)

Puna Terrori
>Finnish ML raw black metal with riffs

>black metal/crust punk from Canada, pioneers of RABM, music is available for free on their website

>Swedish black metal that is aggressive as fuck, Makhno anarchist and donates percentage of earnings to Rojava

Dawn Ray'd
>UK black metal, anarchist, one of the most popular RABM bands currently (along with Panopticon and WIITR)

>USA war metal, lots of OUGH's and low IQ caveman riffs

>the FIRST RABM band, true pioneers in a genre so caked with reactionary troglodytes, Argentinean (hail Posadas)

Book of Sand
>riff machine, anarchist, feminist, vegan if that is your thing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjCvdq0V7tg (just listen to the album, it's full of killer riffs)

>motherfucking anarchist vikings from Norway

Violet Cold
>pretty black metal from a one man Azerbaijani band, stuff that would get you called gay by narrow-minded metalheads, blackgaze

>black metal punk sludge whatever antifascists from Germany, anti-capitalist

Operation Volkstod
>German, debut full length is literally called "Anti-Fascist Black Metal", very self-explanatory

>Same guy as Spectral Lore. Explores themes of serfdom and peasant rebellion. Debut album is coming very soon. Super raw production.

Please feel free to add more. I didn't put Neckbeard Deathcamp because they are a meme band, however I do think that 'MAGAPHOBE' is actually a good song: https://neckbearddeathcamp.bandcamp.com/track/magaphobe
>inb4 x band is liberal or shit

File: 1608525881722.jpg (70.86 KB, 1080x1064, RABM.jpg)

also here are some kinda RABM comps that are worth checking out:

Riffs for Reproductive Justice
>inb4 some fags complains about the name and message of this album, I don't care. Includes some noise, hardcore, and ambient tracks. My favorite is probably the Violet Cold song, maybe the cover of Nazi Punks Fuck Off.

Russian Anarchist Black Metal
>some sludge, doom, and hardcore bands mixed in. My favorite song is the Nimrud one.

Cosmic Collective: A Choir For the Dispossessed
>mostly black metal. My favorite song is DEFINITELY the Mystras one.

Noise for Standing Rock
>black metal and hardcore. Kinda mediocre, but the scene is fucking tiny anyways. The Zetkin song is pretty cool.

Crushing Intolerance Volumes 1-5
>series of mostly RABM comps. Organized by the guy from Deafest IIRC.

Nice one!

I don't really like the sound black metal that much, but I'm glad this exists. Why is there no radical leftist speed metal or something like that?

Most metal really doesn't have an explicit political agenda, it's mostly escapism. There was a phase in the late 80s when thrash bands started to introduce more grounded themes (mostly cold war related, some ecologism too), but it was more of an identity crisis than a real movement. Punk lends itself better to sloganeering, anyway. In fact, most political themes found their to metal through hardcore punk.

Great lists so far. Pretty sure Havukruunu and Summoning have made statements that push them left of center at the least. Convulsing also did a thing against fascism but I can't really recall what he said.

Havukruunu (Moonsorrow-esque black/folk, closer to them than Agalloch but in the same wheelhouse):

Summoning (classic):

Convulsing (murky black/death):

finally, a finnish black metal band that isn't NS

This one's great too: https://youtu.be/S29yDRwmDBA

Nazi smasher by ghoul

Panopticon is godtier.

Yeah lol no generals pls lol a leftist music general is what we would need if we didnt have a music board

Damn Sankara is great. this is perfect, ive been trying to get into metal but ive only really been able to get into more cross genre concept stuff like Panopticon, and i was introduced to metal thru people into punk and jazz so im not really into the more glossy, goofy high fantasy viking stuff. no disrespect for it i appreciate the aesthetic, it reminds me of the goofy 90s/2000s rap aesthetic, but i like it grimier. even Burzum i do actually really like, i think i only listened to the album with the horn on the cover but i loved it, fascist shit aside

i also really fuck with Electric Wizard and Dopesmoker, if anybody has any sludgy metal recs i'd appreciate it.

Also, check out Nechochwen:

Not explicitly leftist but its an indigenous group that's explicitly anti-colonial. "Folk metal" with a lot of crisp orchestral parts which might not be for everybody but the incorporation of native flutes and drums is very cool.

Also, anybody familiar with "Rez Metal"? Apparently there's a strong metal subculture in Navajo Nation, I'm very interested but haven't been able to find much actual music out of it.

Here's a great little documentary on Rez Metal:

Rammstein has always been lefty.

I don't know if this counts as red metal but this Heavy Lord Album has a picture of Lenin on it.anarchismAnarchism

>The visibility of guys like Varg and Famine of Peste Noire infamy has colored the public perception of extreme metal as being the domain of edgelord fascists
Post the basis for this or fuck off. I see and have seen the view you're describing exactly fucking nowhere and doubt it to be the mainstream view of BM or extreme metal in any capacity. You see neo-nazis and liberal degenerates claiming anything as neo-nazi and this is your conclusion? Neo-nazis have claimed vaporwave, punk rock, martial industrial, neofolk among other music for themselves before. They claim any and all culture as theirs, such as vidya and anime. It's what they do and it's nothing to cuck out about.

>What are some metal groups that could be said to be socialist, anarchist, or leftist in some manner?

Black metal: Iskra, Sankara and Punaterrori are explicitly communist. 1914, Kanonenfieber, Minenwerfer and Ancst are anti-war, with Ancst being anti-capitalist if Metallum is anything to go by.

Industrial et al: probably the easiest to find leftist acts in. Militia and March of Heroes are anarchist and ML martial industrial bands respectively. Test Dept is probably most explicit in its leftism, but Die Krupps and Combichrist can probably be called such as well more often than not. Rammstein has been open about leaning to the left with Links 2 3 4.

Hey limpdick, your fake narrative is not impressive. Choke yourself.

Mauzer does good stuff

I get some anti capitalist vibes from Aether Realm - Tarot. Mostly 'The Tower', but I've listened to 'The Chariot' in those particularly alienating days.

Someone posted this awhile back

Its grindcore/death metal

Ethereal Shroud
anti fascist black metal/funeral doom(idk what this is) solo project, good music but long songs.

Spectral Wound
Quebecois black metal, progressives, anti racist, anti fascist but generally apolitical in their music. Good music too

Australian djent/progressive metalcore, minimal to no clean vocals, vaguely leftwing. ALSO good music.
Vidrel:Elision - The Wretched of the Earth

Gråt Strigoi
Antifascist Black Metal

Are Skyclad leftist?

New Sorgsvart!!
