>>7423There are so many, you'd be better off looking at a wikipedia page or something. And even if they are regarded as one of the greats, you might not like their particular style/interpretations or even the instrument they specialize in. Like randoms examples, I dont realyl care for Sonny Rollins or Theolonius Monk, yet theyre some of the best ever.
Anyways, you already mentioned Duke, I also like Art Tatum
>>7423If you mean classic, big band-era stuff, tbh a lot of it might not be appealing to modern ears (sound quality on Parker's albums put me off of listening to him), but you're on the right track since those guys were trailblazers. I'm pretty new to jazz myself, so a lot of my picks are obvious.
You gotta include Pops in any discussion of classic jazz:
https://youtu.be/cMbRV5d7TeYLouis is foundational, and if you want to go far back, you can listen to his stuff with the Hot Five.
Dizzy Gillespie I like a lot, he's one of the big Bebop musicians:
https://youtu.be/s8UEGmAvWfMI didn't want to start with him, but if you want classic must-listen jazz, then 50s-era Miles Davis is not negotiable. Birth of Cool and Kind of Blue are the common starting points for most:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZcuSBouhVABeyond that, I don't know much more about the "classic musicians" who are must listen. The advice I read once was to just look at who plays on those classic jazz albums and there's a good chance they're all worth listening to. A lot of my current listening is late 60s to mid 70s stuff.
