Gilderoy Lockhart was the best villain in Harry Potter, much better than the Noseless Lord or any of his lame followers. And it really sucks that everyone - people in-universe, JKR herself, and most of the fanbase - treats him like a joke. In the right hads, the concept of of someone who mass-mindrapes people in order to build a fake heroic reputation all while behaving like an asshole micro-celebrity of a type that typically ends up cancelled for unappropriately interacting with a minor, could have been a potentially TERRIFYING. Instead, he ended up in the hands of JKR, who made him into a joke character that stopped being funny mid-way though the book.

I unironically agree. Voldemort was a shitty villain. Even Grindelwald was better.

i think whats interesting is that dolores umbridge is by far the most hated, because she is the most relatable in a way. she is the smug, yet unbreachable strain of bureaucracy which we see in state power. voldemort is just a plain archetype of metaphysical evil without the psychological aspect. the same way that sauron is most interesting as a person, and least interesting as a spirit of evil.

I think they never really took the "kill all muggles" concept far enough. Make it a genocide or as if the follower of voldemort were like a magical ISIS destroying everyone and everything in their paths. Talk about a change of tone from the first books to the last. But noooo that would scare the children

Btw, I still can't get over the fact how they didn't drive the moral dilemma point home of the wizards having to blow their cover and their nobel lie in order to save humanity from WW2. Fuck liberal writer hacks.

liberalism just cant come up with good stories anymore. its like the writers of the west wing said they would make an episode with trump and biden where they have their disagreements, then learn their moral lessons, and team up in a display of bipartisanship at the end.

Umbridge is the type who makes the big evil plans possible. She is the regular bureaucrat who willingly carries out the crimes. The problem with how she's portrayed in the story is that she's just one person when the reason people like her are so bad is that there's millions of them.

Is WW2 and the Holocaust better or worse than wizards creating a slave caste society after subjugating muggles

I vividly remember one of the last HP movies was playing on the living room TV and dumbledore told harry something along the lines of "help doesn't come to those who ask at hogwarts(dramatic pause) it comes to those who deserve it" which I think encapsulates JKRs tendency to glaze the good guy team characters and just randomly torture the bad team characters but also how many contemporary libs view the world(or at least how they want it to be) as some weird pseudo-calvinist fantasy where politics is controlled by the moral choices of individual actors who can easily be labelled as good and bad guy. ofc the actual material world functions nothing like this leading to constant liberal cope and dismay as it turns out "le good people" just dont rewarded by the moral laws of universe for being so kind and unique. In there mindset putin is supposed to have been disaptched by extra special and misunderstood Ukrainians because he like evil or something I guess. Even the concept of making decisions based off realpolitik to these people is considered in poor taste if not outright evil since your supposed to analyze politics through unchanging ideals your learned in hollywood movies. try explaining to these people that the RF is more concerned with NATO encirclement, security issues and national resources instead a le ebil putler plotting to conquer all of ukraine because he just such a bad guy and they will be legitimately offended.
