How do I become good enough at English so that people here stop making fun of me for being ESL?

TBF I haven't learned another language at all, so take it with a grain of salt. But if you have the basic grammar, what do you need to do at that point? Just learn more vocabulary and idioms right? Just google it or ask an LLM to look up definitions for words and idioms you don't know.

they can never actually tell if somebody knows english as a second language. they just use "ESL" as an argument terminating insult. if someone responds ESL to you in an argument, it's because they cannot address what you've argued. in fact, native english speakers from around the world, especially on anonymous image boards, regularly accuse each other of knowing english as a second language because of vocabulary and grammatical differences between the colloquial english of their locations.

I will say some of you guys really struggle with reading comprehension but I don't think that's exclusive to ESL.

embrace the accent and the grammar style that your first language gives you while actively consuming lots of high quality english input. Eventually your vocab and shit will get better and you will make fewer errors but still have your own style that is unique.

I know this is a pretty boilerplate answer but reading more. I'm EFL but with how bad the burger education system is I pretty much had to self-teach through youtube, cartoons and library books.
