Your scenario is the product of larger circumstances driving people to behave this way for survival, meaning that even without me adopting such a mentality on my own accord most people would be doing it anyway, making it not a consequence of my actions.
But on a different note, what about animals? Or an out-group of people I don't co-exist with and can't substantially fight back? What would be the argument there?
