Maybe this just comes from having self-esteem and knowing I'm objectively not ugly, but I think everyone has become very superficial this last decade or so. Way more than normal historic levels of shallowness. Like all that stuff about people being angry when less than gorgeous actresses are employed. And super fixating on skin color and facial structure and height.
As a guy who lives in the real world and doesn't spend a lot of time online, I gotta say the online people have it all wrong.
You don't have to be an Adonis to pull a relationship with a woman. I'm proof of that and so are many others. Just go walk around a crowded area and you can see plenty of overweight and generally homely people hand in hand and perfectly happy.
If the above-average looking people are going to have high standards and not fuck each other in hopes of finding someone hotter then that's just fine. Doesn't affect most people.

The only people who believe in it or care about it are terminally online hermits who are really not participating in any of it anyway. If you only knew the disconnect between how people present themselves online and how they are IRL you'd dismiss it all too.

Just one example; I was on social media for a while a few years ago and I was flirting with this artist girl (we lived nearby each other and both make art). She would put up all this bullshit on her account being this perfect person all the time. One day she posted a pic of herself shopping at the local co-op market buying some expensive and organic drink because that's where she shops and what she believes in.
Later that same day I see her in the Safeway with her cart buying processed junk like me and everyone else.
She had all these followers and dudes sucking up to her in comments, but I saw who she really was and was able to fuck her.
If I'd just believed her social media stuff I'd have thought she was completely unattainable.
So for guys who follow all that online shit but don't actually live in the real world and interact with anyone out there, take a minute and pull your heads out of your asses.
