Never used 4chan but 2011-present. I thought Moot was doing something like April Fur's Day and would IP ban everybody that posted in /pol/. Unfortunately, Moot instead allowed the nazis to infest every board and then gave it to that enabler of the netto uyoku Hiroyuki Nishimura. Then 8chan came along and killed almost every independent imageboard and imposed this far-right monoculture.

The narrative is that 2016 brought in a lot of tourists that killed the site. That is true, but it was just a relitigation of 2014's gamergate and anti-sjw shit, and it was already a festering shithole in 2012.
I guess the more accurate way to put it is that it was always shit, it just got worst. The worst parts were always there but were emphasized more and more as the days went by. Even though 2012 was shit, it was somehow still less of a right wing shithole

2013 was when I stopped regularly using it.

There was a blurry vibe shift in 2011 that was kinda inexplicable and hard to make sense of, like a gut feeling. Best I can describe it is that your average person became kinda dumber in some (but not all) ways and also more tense/agitated.

Idk what happened/was happening, there wasn't a notable increase in posting so there was no sudden wave of different new arrivals. I just knew that shit was different and the retards are gonna get themselves in a stupid situation eventually (and they did a couple of years later).
