>>681192You have it backwards. It's the egg industry which mass murders newborn chicks. It's called chick culling and they do it because they don't need that many males. Before mass industrialization the males would just be raised to be eaten but now chickens are specifically bred to either grow as monstrously fat as fast as possible or to lay as many eggs as possible and it's just not profitable to raise egg chickens for meat. So they go into the macerator, alive.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_cullingIf you don't want to pay people to do this, don't eat eggs. Or raise your own chickens and eat their eggs.
Of course, chickens raised for meat are still killed pretty young, after only around 4 weeks if they're being raised for processed meat like mcnuggets. A little longer if they're being raised for a rotisserie or something. This would be their infancy for their genetically unmodified ancestors in the Asian jungle thousands of years ago, and is only 1% of the way into their natural life span, but it's profitable to breed them to grow fast and die young. Capitalism is bad.
