What's up with these? How did the Catholics come up with them? It seems like there's some overlap or redundancy.

>Greed

>Envy
>Gluttony
>Lust
>Pride
>Wrath
>Sloth

Isn't greed just the gluttony or lust for money?
Isn't gluttony just the greed or lust for food?
Isn't lust just gluttony or greed for sex?
Isn't wrath just the lust for blood?

And then there's room for abstraction.

Sloth is just indifference towards work. Isn't indifference or apathy a sin in itself? Like if you're just sitting around while a genocide is committed instead of opposing it, isn't that that a form of sloth?

And why isn't cowardice considered a sin? You would think the ruling class would want you to be brave and go die for them, so why didn't the church fathers design shaming people for cowardice into the system of sins they created?

And pride? Is that just arrogance-boastfulness-chauvinism or is it like the same thing as pride in one's own identity, like LGBT pride, or national pride?

What about Envy? Isn't envy being sad or angry because others are doing better than you? Wrath towards the success of others.

Why isn't sadness a sin? Isn't there a case to be made that the demotivation of depression is a root cause of sloth?

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

There also used to be vainglory

Wrath, Envy, Vainglory, Pride, these are all good sins. The only bad sin is sloth.

>seven deadly sins, in Roman Catholic theology, the seven vices that spur other sins and further immoral behavior. First enumerated by Pope Gregory I (the Great) in the 6th century and elaborated in the 13th century by St. Thomas Aquinas […] Each of these sins can be overcome with the seven heavenly virtues of (1) humility, (2) charity, (3) chastity, (4) gratitude, (5) temperance, (6) patience, and (7) diligence.

catholics also have "hamartiology" which categorises different sins between "mortal" and "venial" sins.

the biggest farce of the catholics of course is the idea that a priest can forgive your sins by issuing "penance" such as reciting ave maria a certain number of times. all of this makes a relationship with God an economic and legal framework (like pagans with karma and ritual sacrifice) rather than any genuine soteriology (salvation).

the whole idea of having a religion that shames people for doing things they will inevitably do is retarded

Christians love to lean on Paul's "no work, no eat" when that is literally the opposite of what Christ said.

I like it when people get pissy about "he who doesn't work doesn't eat". It really shows how greedy and lazy people are on here.

the first sin came from the first prohibition. people inherently desire the forbidden, so the only reason we have such categories as homosexuality for example, is because of homophobia. the necessity of prohobition gives meaning to the identity itself, since without it, there could be no sublimation. this is why civilisation begins with the first transgression, which clothes the nakedness of adam and eve. first is fig leaves, then animal skins, like how cain offers vegetation yet God prizes abel's flesh. cain is called the father of invention for this cause, which leads to a world of sin, while only the sethites can redeem it by the ark of noah. after this, noah falls into drunkenness which leads to a curse against the canaanites. here, the father's sin is put upon the son, like with Christ. Christ pays the sin of the Father thus, which was the first prohibition, like how adam is charged by paul, rather than eve. we see this in eden also. adam blames eve and eve blames the serpent, but who is responsible, really?
